Fans of science fiction have simultaneously seen something similar to Max’s new adult animated series Scavengers Reign and absolutely nothing like it before.
It’s a dichotomy that the show’s creative team leaned into when trying to create a world that houses a group of surviving crewmembers from the Demeter, a deep-space freighter ship damaged by a solar flare and stranded on a beautiful but terrifying planet. Separated and unaware the others have survived, each group — and in some cases a single individual — attempts to navigate and survive the hostile planet in hopes of eventual rescue.
Co-created by Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner, the series, based on their 2016 short Scavengers, has been adapted into a 12-episode series by Green Street Pictures. It’s one of the latest examples of how networks and platforms are not only increasingly interested in animated titles that expand genre representation, but ones that have clear live-action impulses,...

Indonesian firm Msv Studio is well underway on production of “Ajisaka: The King and the Flower of Life,” the first of three hugely ambitious animated films it will work on this year.
Msv Studio is the animation division of Msk Pictures, which itself is part of the larger, Indonesia-based Amikom Group. Since 2015, Amikom says it has invested 20 million into the research and development of computer animation technology. Having readied its proprietary — and rapid — methods, it now plans to invest 100 million developing, producing and distributing up to 10 animated feature films over the next seven years.
Msk Pictures is led by Ario Sagantoro, producer of “Merantau,” “The Raid: Redemption” and “The Raid: Berendal,” the hit Indonesian action films written and directed by Gareth Huw Evans.
Deploying a 15 million production budget, “Ajisaka” tells an original story, recalling ancient times when the world was inhabited by three races: humans, Raksha (giants), and Vidya. The...

(Cbr) Eli Roth has made just four feature films in the past 12 years, but one of them is already getting a remake of sorts. Deadline reports that "Cabin Fever," the director’s 2002 feature debut, will get a remake or, more accurately, a reshoot. Basically, director Travis Zariwny will use the same script Roth wrote with Randy Pearlstein for the new version. Roth is on board as producer for the film, which starts shooting this week in in Portland, Oregon. There cast includes Gage Golightly ("Teen Wolf"), Dustin Ingram ("True Blood"), Samuel Davis ("From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series"), Matthew Daddario ("Delivery Man") and Nadine Crocker ("Some Guy Who Kills People"). Zariwny helmed the sci-fi creeper "Scavengers" as well as "Intruder," which is supposed to come out this year.

Forget that the third film in the Cabin Fever series was released in June, news has surfaced that Eli Roth will reboot his horror series with Travis Zariwny (Intruder, Scavengers) directing, and shot from the original script used for the 2002 original. The "new" version will star Gage Golightly, Dustin Ingram, Samuel Davis, Matthew Daddario and Nadine Crocker.
So, is Roth unhappy with how the series has turned out, or is this some kind of Gus Van Sant Pshycho thing? Either way, it's interesting. Usua [Continued ...]...

This movie has had my interest since I first peeped the trailer that I have included below. I’ve heard some mixed reaction to the film, as it was recently released to VOD platforms, but after a trailer that awesome, I still have hopes for enjoying it myself. IFC have announced that they will be releasing the film to DVD & Blu-ray on June 17th. It’s good to see a horror movie get a Blu-ray release from IFC. They seem to have started focusing more on the DVD platform for films like this lately. Check out the press release and the trailer below, and pick up a copy for yourself on the 17th of June.

Announced way back in 2009, Travis Zariwny’s sci-fi actioner “Scavengers” is finally seeing the light of day in 2013. Or at least, the trailer for the film is. As for the movie itself, it looks like foreign territories will be first up, with probably a DVD release Stateside later in the year. If we’re lucky, anyway. (And if you happen to be a fan of Sean Patrick Flanery, which I am.) It actually looks pretty decent for what I’m guessing was a moderately budgeted sci-fi flick. Or at least, the space sequences don’t look like they were done on someone’s old Mac Quadra. (And if you know what an old Mac Quadra looks like without having to Google it, congratulations to you and me.) A team of space scavengers discovers superior alien technology that threatens the balance of the known universe. Hotly pursued by a rival crew of intergalactic mercenaries,...

Sean Patrick Flanery – When I told Heidi I’d set up an interview with him for Pretty/Scary, I think her heart might have stopped momentarily. Mine may have skipped a beat too. There’s a lot to love. He had that cute and creepy thing going for him in Powder. He was simply adorable (I mean, very manly) as Young Indiana Jones. He had the honor of getting ganked by Christopher Walken in Suicide Kings. He’s brought us some serious (and not-so serious) scares in Demon Hunter, The Masters of Horror’s The Damned Thing, Kaw, and The Insatiable, as well as episodes of Charmed, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, and more recently, The Dead Zone. And he’s got some more sf/f and horror in the works: Deadly Impact hits DVD this April with Mongolian Death Worms and Scavengers slated for later in 2010. Plus,...
