It’s a striking photo.
Mindy Cohn and four friends stand topless in a pool, their hands covering their breasts. It’s a nod to Breast Cancer Awareness Month — and also an acknowledgement that Cohn herself waged a five-year battle against the disease.
The women — Madeline Hayes, Lulu Johnson (Betsey Johnson’s daughter), Neda Soderqvist and Lynn De Logi — come from different walks of life but were part of Cohn’s “gaggle of girls” who were always present during Cohn’s health crisis.

When The Facts of Life star Mindy Cohn decided to go public with her five-year battle with metastatic breast cancer, she knew exactly where she wanted to do it.
She met People at Beekman 1802, a mercantile of natural products that have been developed by her close friends, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge — best known from their reality series, The Fabulous Beekman Boys. There in Sharon Springs, New York, Cohn was relaxed and upbeat as she talked about her journey.
After a tour of the store, People accompanied Cohn to a serene farmhouse owned by Kilmer-Purcell and Ridge. The 60-acre property has 113 goats,...

Here at TheBacklot.com we spend a lot of time celebrating gay and bi men in the spotlight: actors, singers, dancers, sportsmen, and personalities are splashed across our pages like so much red paint at an all-fur fashion show. While we will never tire of the Neil Patrick Harrises and Chris Colfers of the world, we thought it was high time we paid due credit to some of the more unsung gay heroes: the guys behind the cameras of some of television’s best shows. In that light, we are proud to unveil TheBacklot 40, our celebration of 40 of the hardest-working and most influential out men working behind the scenes in TV.
These are the men who create and run some of our favorite shows, have written some of our most beloved gay characters, and have shepherded gay-inclusive stories to screen long before it was fashionable. Some will be familiar, but...

Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge -- better known as The Fabulous Beekman Boys -- more than lived up to their fabulous reputation on Friday, June 28, when they tied the knot in a rustic, one-of-a-kind wedding at their farm in Sharon Springs, N.Y. Newark Mayor Cory Booker is one of the most outspoken allies of the Glbt community in politics today. But he wasn't always that way. The Stanford Daily republished an op-ed he wrote about his evolution in 1992, and it's powerful stuff.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have fired General Manager, Glbt ally, and You Can Play Project founder Brian Burke because they haven't made the Stanley Cup playoffs since 2008.
Chris Colfer says that when he was younger, he always went to the midnight releases for the Harry Potter books, and he had a standard wizards' robe and hat back then. Times have changed, though with his success. "Now I can go to Whimsic Alley — you know, like Diagon Alley, but in L.A. — and go on a shopping spree and buy all sorts of crap that I don't need. Harry Potter was my number-one thing, and I loved every minute being a fan of those books.

It's time for the winter Television Critics Association press tour, which means there are lots of tidbits of news to chew. Yesterday, critics talked with NBC head Robert Greenblatt, who said that he's not sure when Hannibal will air, but it won't be until late in the TV season. Meanwhile, Michael J. Fox's upcoming sitcom will follow a newsman who has to give up his job after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and how his family adjusts, and they may make another attempt to reboot The Munsters.
Greenblatt also expressed faith in Days of Our Lives, saying "it's not going anywhere." That's a very welcome change from the days when Jeff Zucker was predicting impending cancellation for the soap. We're so lucky Zucker never got around to dumping Days for the ninth hour of The Today Show.

Over the past three nights, HitFix's "Amazing Race" exit interviews have covered the 4th Place Twinies, the 3rd Place Longhorns and the 2nd Place Chippendales, but we've finally reached the winners of this season's million dollar prize. The goat farmers and stars of Planet Green's "The Fabulous Beekman Boys" (now airing in repeats on Cooking Channel) were saved by at least one Non-Elimination Leg and by near-countless examples of the fickle finger of "Amazing Race" fate. The Amazing Race finish line on Sunday's finale with The Beekman Boys (and host Phil Keoghan).
Nobody was as surprised as Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge (a.k.a. The Beekman Boys) that they were the first to cross the finish line on Sunday’s Amazing Race finale. Often referring to themselves as the underdogs, the gay couple, who have been together for 14 years, beat the odds and throughout the race maintained their integrity. They constantly pushed and supported each other to a million dollar prize.
We talked to Josh and Brent post-finale to get their take on what put them ahead of the other teams (including runners-up Chippendale contestants Jaymes Vaughan and James Davis),and what exactly they plan to do with their newly won million.
AfterElton: So how hard has it been to keep this secret??
Josh Kilmer-Purcell: It’s more fun to keep a secret than to tell people.

Need proof that the only leg that matters is the final leg on The Amazing Race? The Fabulous Beekman Boys' Josh and Brent — who had finished second to last six times during season and never in the top two before the finale — defied the odds and a three-team alliance to win the $1 million. They are the third team to win the Race without winning a previous leg. "We were the underdogs, but we didn't give up no matter how bad things got," Josh tells TVGuide.com. "I think we earned the win." Nevertheless, given their low placements throughout the Race and the fact that they seemed ready to throw in the towel to save Abbie and Ryan in Amsterdam, some fans believe they're unworthy winners. Find out why they don't mind that label, what they're doing with the money and more.

Sunday's Amazing Race finale won't have any drama like last season, but Phil Keoghan promises a legitimate tight finish. "It's what we always want, but can never guarantee," he tells TVGuide.com. The two-hour closer will find the final four teams — Chippendales Jaymes and James, twins Natalie and Nadiya, couple Trey and Lexi, and The Fabulous Beekman Boys' Josh and Brent — racing through France, where one team will be eliminated. The final three will then head to New York City, where they'll take on a memory task that numerous fans predicted would be the final challenge.

The ceremony, which aims to "elevate and promote individuals and projects in the advertising and public relations industries for groundbreaking representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) community," drew the likes of Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge ("The Fabulous Beekman Boys"), writer Janet Mock, "Big Love" actor Christian Campbell, model/designer Isis King.
J.C. Penney took home the biggest honor for its "First Pals" ad, which featured two gay fathers with their children, for the retail group's Father's Day catalog. The "J.C. Penney dads" Cooper Smith Koch and Todd Koch accepted their award with a pre-taped speech (which can be viewed above).
Also honored was General Motors, for its tongue-in-cheek ad depicting the silver Chevy Volt as "coming out" to his older-model "parents.

Tammy Faye…Tori Spelling…Chaz Bono…RuPaul…The Fabulous Beekman Boys…and (soon) Latoya Jackson.
These names are not only iconic for what they’ve each brought to the world of entertainment but the one common thread between each of them is they have been brought to our attention in revealing ways in film and television by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato and their World of Wonder Productions.
The Super Producers currently are working on a multitude of projects including RuPaul’s All-Stars Drag Race on Logo, the just-announced Latoya Jackson reality show for Own, Oxygen’s All The Right Moves and this weekend’s one-hour Own special, 10 Kids, 2 Dads.
AfterElton miraculously was able to get both Bailey and Barbato on the phone earlier this week to talk about all these projects as well as their philosophy for why when it comes to reality TV, hair flipping is so much better than table flipping.

During the House debate on Sopa, out Rep. Jared Polis (who is an Internet mogul) attempted to amend the act to exempt the government from protecting copyrights of pornography in an attempt to derail the bill. Ultimately, he was unsuccessful in doing anything more than delaying the proceedings, but one of his tactics makes you smile: He read the lyrics of "The Internet Is For Porn" from Avenue Q into the Congressional Record.

The Fabulous Beekman Boys spoke exclusively with HollywoodLife.com and shared their favorite recipe for sweet potato pie! Read on to learn how to make this tasty treat for your holiday party! Thanksgiving is finally upon us, and it's that time of year to gather our favorite recipes that will really "wow" our family and friends! Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Dr. Brent Ridge let us in on their secret recipe for a delightful sweet potato pie. Beekman 1802 Sweet Potato Pie To get a sweet potato pie that isn't overly sweet, we use two kinds of sweet potatoes: Japanese sweet potatoes, which are a little drier in texture and mildly sweet, and deep-orange garnet potatoes, which are moist and quite sweet. If the pie develops a crack in the center as it cooks, which many do, simply top with sweetened whipped cream, sour cream, or yogurt. Prep Time: 25 minutes (to make dough...

The cast of Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys Season 2
(all photos courtesy The Sundance Channel)
Sundance Channel's Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys, which this Friday launches its second season, is a reality show about relationships where the connections are durable and have been forged over years, not developed between commercial breaks.
This is a show set in Nashville where you'd expect conservative, Bible Belt attitudes to be on display. But actual people with those views are rarely encountered in the living rooms, coffee shops and bars of our protagonists.
This is a show about a stereotype: straight women who form strong attachments to gay males. But don’t be expecting to see toxic traces of Will & Grace – or even Karen & Jack. With one or two exceptions, these women have full, emotionally-satisfying lives that make room for a best friend who happens to be gay.

The Planet Green reality show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, which returns for a second season on Planet Green on Tuesday, March 22, is ... interesting.
I'm obviously not the first to point out that the show basically has the same plot as the old 1960s sitcom Green Acres: Brent, a clueless dilettante totally unfit for life on a farm, makes extraordinarily bad decisions while the more practical partner, Josh, looks on, aghast and exasperated. Except that with the Beekman Boys, Eddie Albert doesn't ever come to appreciate Eva Gabor's off-kilter perspective — he just simmers, resentful, in the background in an eternal slow-burn. And let's face it: Brent can be even more clueless than Eva Gabor was in Green Acres, which is really saying something.

Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell, stars of The Fabulous Beekman Boys, are the first same-sex couple to appear in the New Yorkers for Marriage Equality Campaign from the Human Rights Campaign. “In our small upstate village, our neighbors treat our relationship as equal to theirs,” says Ridge as the video displays barn imagery. “It’s time the law did, too,” adds Kilmer-Purcell.As New Yorkers from the more rural upstate region, Ridge and Kilmer-Purcell speak for an important but underrepresented constituency in the marriage equality debate. Republicans dominate the upstate senate seats, but not a single Gop senator supported the bill that failed by a 38-24 vote in 2009. Advocates are hopeful of another vote by this June."Josh and Brent represent one of the thousands of same sex couples from all around our state who are in loving committed relationships but are denied the right to marry,” said Hrc senior strategist Brian Ellner.
