Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

Cocaine Bear is directed by Elizabeth Banks, with an ensemble cast that includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings and Alden Ehrenreich.
A movie that starts off with a comic bump and cites Wikipedia as a source can’t be bad, can it?
If you take it seriously, it’s a B-movie with little plot and a series of “well-worn” jokes that are probably funnier after you’ve had two or three whiskeys or your favorite substance.
If you don’t take it seriously: it’s an eighties revival that’s lot of fun and is done with period effects.
Very funny.
Plot (to call it something)
A guy throws some packets of cocaine out of a plane, which end up in the paws of a bear, which dances furiously in a park that is similar to Yellowstone – but with an entirely different Yogi there…

Sam Worthington almost went from “Avatar” to DC superhero…that is, if the script had made sense to him.
The “Avatar: The Way of Water” actor revealed that he was almost cast in 2011 DC film “Green Lantern” as Hal Jordan — except he couldn’t wrap his head around the plot.
“It didn’t make much sense to me — the suit comes out of his skin?” Worthington told Variety. “And I was like, ‘He’s got this powerful ring that can create anything. Well, what can beat the ring?’ The answer was, ‘Nothing.’ I was like, ‘Well, something needs to beat it, or it won’t be very interesting.'”
Ryan Reynolds eventually took over the lead role and the film was an infamous flop, earning 116.6 million at the U.S. box office. Worthington went on to star in “Man on a Ledge” and “Wrath of the Titans.”

Another streaming service bit the ad-based bullet. The standard Disney+ plan has been rechristened Disney+ Premium and costs 10.99; the brand-new Disney+ ad-based tier, Disney+ Basic, is 7.99. Just as Netflix did last month, Disney fans may now choose a cheaper subscription in exchange for ad breaks. And just as we did for Netflix, IndieWire took Disney+ Basic on a test drive.
In terms of ad functionality, it’s what you’d expect: Choose a title for play and you’re greeted by a 45-second spot with one or two ads, which will be followed by shorter spots sprinkled into the programming. According to Disney+, the company signed deals with over 100 major advertisers and among the brands we spotted on day one include Chick-Fil-a, Starbucks, Airbnb, Lego, Target, Mariott Hotels, Toyota, American Express, and Meta.
Netflix and Disney+ appear to carry similar ad loads, with one key difference. When Netflix launched five weeks ago,...

I recently watched Man On A Ledge for the first time but the title for it seemed a bit misleading. Yes, there was a man on a ledge but less than half of the movie seemed to be about and feature that man on the ledge. Now, although not 100 of Holy Shit! (aka Ach du Scheisse!) is focused on this one guy, it would still justify being titled ‘A Man In A Portaloo’.
I actually really enjoy single-location movies, maybe even more so when that location is very small. Whether it be Buried starring Ryan Reynolds, Phone Booth starring Colin Farrell or a movie more similar to Holy Shit! – the low-budget zombie movie Stalled, which takes place almost entirely in a toilet cubicle.
Here, Frank (Thomas Niehaus) wakes up in a portaloo that has been knocked on its side.

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

I have been very excited about seeing The Pool for a long time. The poster and initial images I saw were impressive and I have always loved the idea of movies set in one small location. Whether it be Phone Booth, Man On A Ledge, Ryan Reynold’s in Buried or genre movies like Pontypool and Exam. Even my favourite movie, The Breakfast Club, could be included in the same niche genre.
So a guy stuck in an emptied swimming pool with a crocodile had me jumping for joy…
That sounds like a pretty small idea for an hour and a half movie but do not worry, writer and director Ping Lumpraploeng has a lot of ideas to fill the time. Almost every one of these ideas are ways to torture the lead character Day, played by Theeradej Wongpuapan.

There are few surefire successes in television. It just so happens that with its new releases for May 2020, Hulu almost certainly found itself one. May 8 sees the debut of all eight episodes of Solar Opposites, the latest sci-fi animated effort from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland. This is a brand new story featuring a family of aliens crashing to Earth and learning to live amongst the rest of us weirdos. But the animation style and sci-fi themes hew so closely to Rick and Morty that there’s no way this won’t be a hit.
On the off chance Solar Opposites doesn’t set the world ablaze, Hulu has some other intriguing content lottery tickets for May. The Great premieres on May 15 and is a comedic period piece about Catherine the Great starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. You can’t accuse Hulu of not taking big swings this month!

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn made their mark together as the hosts of the reality competition TV series “Project Runway.” The Emmy-winning pair left that show to preside over another hunt for the next hot designer, “Making the Cut.” This globe-trotting series, which debuts in March on Amazon Prime Video, takes contestants to the design capitals of the world as they compete to stay in the competition.
Amazon Prime Video has also cornered the market on the remakes of Agatha Christie‘s classic mystery novels. The adaptation of her one-off novel, “The Pale Horse,” starts to stream on Amazon Prime mid month after debuting on the BBC at Christmas.

Here's everything coming to Amazon Prime instant video in March 2020!
For its new releases in March 2020, Amazon Prime is enlisting help from some horror friends.
Yes, horror is the name of the game this month with Night of the Living Dead (albeit the 2007 version), The Crazies, and The Descent all arriving on March 1. And if that weren't enough, Pet Sematary comes a little later on on May 19. Look at Church the cat in that thumbnail image. How could you not want to watch his spooky adventures?
The Amazon original offerings are typically sparse for March 2020 but still pack some punch. Italian import ZeroZeroZero stars Gabriel Byrne and arrives on May 6. Then British import Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse comes a little later on March 13.
For what it's worth, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot debuts on March 13 so it's not all horror and all European TV all the time.

We’ve already touched base on the Netflix titles heading our way next month, but what about Amazon Prime?
Though the former is widely considered to be the undisputed heavyweight of the online streaming world, it didn’t take long for Prime to become a tantalizing prospect, no thanks to kick-ass original series like The Expanse, The Boys and The Man in the High Castle.
The real issue for the end consumer is juggling all those subscriptions, particularly now that Disney+ is live across North America (March 24th for those in the UK). Be that as it may, as February nears its end, Amazon has detailed all of the content bound for Prime in March 2020.
Among the new additions are a host of big-name horror films, including Neil Marshall’s The Descent and its creepy sequel. Best of all? Pet Sematary, the reimagining of Stephen King’s literary developed by Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer.

Project comes from Land Of Mine’s producer and writer duo.
Danish director Asger Leth (Man On A Ledge) will direct the timely, politically-minded Us-set drama White Dog, from a story by Land Of Mine writer/director Martin Zandvliet.
Nordisk’s Mikael Rieks, who also produced the likely Oscar-contender Land Of Mine, will produce. Zandvliet co-wrote the script with Anders August.
The film is described as “an eye-level portrait of two skinhead brothers at a point in their lives where their paths are pointed in very different directions.”
The team expects to shoot the film in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
“The film will take place in Pittsburgh, USA, but it is just as easily a portrait of a time where populist politicians everywhere are appealing to the worst in us,” said Asger Leth, whose credits also include Ghosts Of Cite Soleil.
Meanwhile, Zandvliet is currently in pre-production in Japan on his English-language debut The Outsider starring Jared Leto.

We've now had our first glimpse at Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four. Here’s everything we know about 2015’s most mysterious blockbuster.
We’ve known about the Fantastic Four reboot for quite some time, but that hasn’t stopped it being a mysterious project which, until this week, we knew next to nothing about.
We knew that the cast, director and groundwork of the original 2005 film, and its 2007 sequel Rise Of The Silver Surfer, had been firmly thrown out in favour of a new visual look, some reimagining of the source material and an altogether more modern take on the Marvel comics property. Beyond that, many facets of the film remained a mystery.
Yet the reveal of the new trailer finally gave us a few more specifics. And here's what we know so far...

As the first original series from SundanceTV, Rectify was something of a gamble on the part of the network. Premiering on April 22 2013 with six episodes, however, the drama quickly established itself as a critical success, winning loyal fans and avid followers. Season two followed on June 19 2014, and is about to wrap after 10 episodes. Fans need not worry, though, as the show has now been renewed for a third season.
The premise of the series is simple, but with endless possibility for exploration. The story focuses on Daniel Holden who, as a teenager, was convicted and imprisoned for the rape and murder of his 16 year old girlfriend, Hanna. 19 years later, new DNA evidence proves his innocence and he is freed. His attempts to adjust, and the attempts of those around him to do the same, form a character study within a Southern Gothic tale.

The sexy Genesis Rodriguez -below ('Man on a Ledge') has signed on for Blumhouse's latest haunted house thriller 'Home'. '+1' helmer Dennis Iliadis will direct the project which saw 'That 70's Show' star Topher Grace pick up the lead role last month. 'Shutter Island' star Patricia Clarkson was previously reported to be in negotiations for a role which still appears to be the case at the moment. No word just yet on the details of Rodriguez's character but for those who can't wait to catch another big screen outing for the beauty will find solace in the fact that the 26 year old will be appearing in Kevin Smith's upcoming hybrid horror 'Tusk'. Blumhouse's Jason Blum and Leonardo DiCaprio and Appian Way partner Jennifer Killoran will co-produce 'Home', whilst Iliadis will helm from a script penned by Adam Alleca....

After deftly handling supporting roles in action fare like Man on a Ledge and The Last Stand, actress Genesis Rodriguez is set to make her mark as a scream queen in the upcoming Blumhouse thriller Home.
The actress will star alongside Topher Grace in the thriller, which centers on a man (Grace) who inherits a creepy old mansion from his parents and begins to believe that it is haunted. It’s not much of a spoiler to say that he’s right, and lots of horrifying supernatural events ensue. It has not been confirmed which character Rodriguez will be playing in Home, though I imagine that she’ll be taking on the role of the love interest of Grace’s protagonist.
Though the actress hasn’t showcased a particularly impressive set of dramatic chops to date, I also didn’t mind her performances in last year’s Hours or Identity Thief.

‘Catching Fire’ box office: To surpass Iron Man 3 in North America? (photo: Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’) Thanksgiving was celebrated this past week in the United States. Although the American economy remains in a seemingly never-ending rut, Lionsgate has much to be thankful for, financially speaking: on the weekend of November 29-December 1, 2013, Francis Lawrence’s $110-130 million-budgeted The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, added another $74.5 million from 4,163 North American locations according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Even if Lionsgate’s estimates are (once again) off by a couple of percentage points, that’s a remarkable hold for a sequel. In fact, Catching Fire was down only 53% compared to its first weekend, which included $25+ million from Thursday night and Friday midnight screenings. And let’s not forget that the Hunger Games sequel blew off...

‘Catching Fire’ weekend box office: Record breaker with qualifiers — though a huge success all the same (photo: Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’) For the weekend of November 22-24, 2013, Lionsgate overestimated the domestic box office take of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by nearly 2%. Doesn’t sound like much? What about $3 million? That figure can make a hell of a difference when we’re talking box office records. In fact, it can be the difference between a movie breaking and not breaking a box office record. All day Sunday heralded as the biggest 2D opening ever in the United States and Canada, the Francis Lawrence-directed Catching Fire actually opened below two movies: Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and The Dark Knight (2008). And when inflation is taken into account, as it always should, the The Hunger Games sequel falls behind a couple of other titles as well.
