Exclusive: Writer-producer Jack Orman has inked a new two-year, seven-figure overall deal with Sony Pictures TV. ER alum Orman wrote and is executive producing Sony TV's buzzed-about ABC pilot Pan Am. Described as a sexy soap set against the Jet Age, the pilot, directed/exec produced by Thomas Schlamme, revolves around pilots and flight attendants working at the iconic Pan Am airlines in the 1960s. Under his previous two-year deal with Sony, Orman landed pilot orders both years: for Matadors at ABC last year and Pan Am, also at ABC, this year. Orman's first TV writing gig was as a freelance writer for an episode of Jag, which led to a staff-writer position on the military drama. Orman then joined NBC's medical drama ER where he spent six seasons, rising to executive producer/showrunner. Additionally, CAA-repped Orman co-created and executive produced the CBS drama series Dr. Vegas.

Pierce Brosnan is returning to television with an investigative thriller from veteran ER writer-producer Jack Orman and Sony Pictures Television that will likely go straight to series. Orman has written a pilot script for the ex-007's project, which Sony is shopping to international broadcasters with the goal to land pre-sales elsewhere before taking it to U.S. networks. The untitled drama centers on a "fixer," private investigator specializing in international crisis intervention who is called in to help solve homicides, abductions, financial schemes and other crimes anywhere in the world. It is largely based on the real-life experiences of international Pi Logan Clarke, head of the Los Angeles-based Clarke International Investigations. Producer Keri Selig started things off on the project when she took Clarke to Irish DreamTime, Brosnan's production company with Beau St. Clair. Brosnan, St. Clair and Selig will executive the series with Orman. Brosnan won't play the...

Folks, I am not ashamed to admit that I Love Michael Rooker! And I'm sure many horror fans feel the same way. From his film debut as Henry in the horrifying Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer to being covered with goo as Grant Grant in James Gunn's hilarious Slither to his current role in three-time Oscar nominee Frank Darabont's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead" for AMC, Rooker (as he is known to his fans) never fails to deliver. Dread Central recently had an opportunity to speak with the hilarious and laid-back actor while he was at home, just chillin'.
Elaine Lamkin: So, what has your bad self been up to lately?
Michael Rooker: Girl, I've finished a couple of horror films: Hypothermia and Cell 213, where I play a badass mo-fo prison guard. Cell 213 is a horror film set in a prison where,...

Welcome to your Monday morning television briefing. Judy Greer (Miss/Guided) is heading to CBS. The actress--whose voice appeared this season on FX's animated comedy Archer--has signed on to star in CBS ensemble comedy Mad Love, which has been picked up for thirteen episodes and will launch in midseason. Greer replaces Lizzy Caplan, who had only signed on to appear as a guest star in the pilot, and will star opposite Sarah Chalke (who herself replaced Minka Kelly), Jason Biggs, and Tyler Labine (who replaced Dan Fogler). Project, from writer/executive producer Matt Tarses, revolves around a group of Manhattan friends looking for love. (Variety, Deadline) Deadline's Nellie Andreeva is reporting that David Strathairn (Matadors) is in talks to topline Syfy's action-adventure pilot Alphas, which revolves around a team of people with extraordinary abilities. Strathairn would play the "the overseer/team leader/prescribing doctor and all around mother hen to the team: an eccentric,...

One of the best parts of upfronts week is finding out which of your favorite actors will be back on TV in the fall with new shows. Sometimes, the returning faces have been long absent from the small screen. (Keri Russell, we missed you so!) Other times, it makes the end of one great show a little more bearable. Take Friday Night Lights, which is in production on its fifth and likely last season. Several cast members are already preparing for the end. Fnl alum Adrianne Palicki plays one of two wives to a Texas con artist in Fox’s Lonestar.

Casting actors in "second position" on pilots has been on the rise during the past few years.
The process -- in which actors in on-air series are cast in pilots -- also has become increasingly aggressive, with broadcast networks even going after actors whose shows have not yet premiered.
This pilot season, Kyle Bornheimer and Alyssa Milano, stars of ABC's upcoming comedy series "Romantically Challenged," and Tyler Labine, star of Fox's upcoming comedy series "Sons of Tucson," were pursued for pilots. After fielding several offers, Bornheimer signed on as the lead in CBS' hot comedy pilot from "How I Met Your Mother" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
Overall, more than a dozen actors on existing series already have been cast in pilots this year.
Casting executive Marc Hirschfeld, who cast one of them -- "Numbers" star Rob Morrow, in ABC's drama pilot "The Whole Truth" -- is not surprised.

It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.
Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.
Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out,...

The good folks over at EW.com have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Just between these three networks, 31 dramas and 29 comedies will be given a shot to make the schedule this fall. There is a great mix of shows among the orders: from traditional multi-camera comedies to big-name-producer dramas. Remember, not all of these will be picked up, so you'll have to tune in to the networks' announcements in May to see which of these make the final cut. Take a look below at what each of the networks will be possibly serving up for your viewing pleasure, and let us know in the comments section what tickles your fancy.

The jury's still out on the future of some ABC series (we're looking at you, FlashForward and V), but the network is already hard at work on a contingency plan: It's developing 11 new dramas for fall, including fresh projects from uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Grey's Anatomy honcho Shonda Rhimes. And there's good news coming out of the network's laugh department: the success of Wednesday night series Cougar Town, The Middle, and Modern Family has prompted ABC to continue spending big bucks on more comedies -- thus its decision to order 12 half-hour pilots this year. Here are the network's fall pilots,...

Simon West, who last year helmed the pilot for Fox's action drama "Human Target," is back on pilot-directing duty this season with NBC's drama "The Cape," about a former cop-turned-masked hero.
Meanwhile, in a sign that broadcast networks are looking to emulate the light, quirky feel of USA Network series for their crop of shows, a pair of hot USA pilot directors -- Jace Alexander and Bronwen Hughes -- are making a transition to broadcast pilots.
Alexander, who helmed the pilots for USA's hits "Burn Notice" and Royal Pains" as well as the pilot for Syfy's breakout dramedy "Warehouse 13," is tapped to direct ABC's drama pilot "Edgar Floats," about a police psychologist-turned-bounty hunter. Hughes, helmer of the pilot for USA's "White Collar" and the cable net's latest pilot, "Facing Kate," is on board to direct another ABC hourlong pilot, the dramedy "Cutthroat," about a Beverly Hills mom running a drug cartel.

Taryn Manning is forging family ties with Alex O'Loughlin on "Hawaii Five-o," and Laurie Metcalf is headed back into the sitcom game in the latest round of pilot casting.
"The Forgotten" star Michelle Borth has also taken a role in a pilot, which may not be the best news for the show's future. Amy Smart and Brian Dennehy have also taken parts.
Manning ("Hustle & Flow," "Drive") will play Mary Ann McGarrett, the sister of O'Loughlin's Detective Steve McGarrett, in CBS' "Five-o" remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. (The character was not a regular part of the original 1968-80 series, appearing in only a couple of episodes early in the show's run.)
She joins O'Loughlin and "Lost" star Daniel Dae Kim in the cast.
Other casting news:

It looks like we're going to have another legal drama on TV, but at least this one looks like it might have a twist to it. ABC has cast the two lead roles for 'Matadors,' about two battling families who also happen to be filled with attorneys. One family has a private practice while the other works for the state. The Hollywood Reporter describes it as a "Romeo and Juliet-style drama" because the two lovebirds come from each of those battling families.
Michelle Borth, who currently co-stars on ABC's 'The Forgotten' (though I'm guessing not for long) will play Juliana, while Zach Gilford will play Alex, the guy who Juliana will fall in love with. The woman's name is Juliana? Well, at least they didn't name the man's character Roman or something like that.

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. Given that it's the day after a Us holiday, there are precious few headlines this morning but here's what we've got. TVGuide.com's Natalie Abrams is reporting that Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica) has been cast as a guest star on ABC's sci-fi drama V. Trucco is set to appear in the April 13th episode as the enigmatic John May, the leader of the Fifth Column, a group of rebel Visitors who have been plotting to overthrow the leadership of the alien race. (TVGuide.com) A slew of pilot castings: Amy Smart (Scrubs) has been cast in CBS' untitled medical drama from executive producer John Wells (ER) and writer Hannah Shakespeare (The Philanthropist) about a mobile medical team that travels the Us and helps those less fortunate yet in need of serious medical attention. Smart will play Meg Cooper, "a tough nurse who stands...

Tis the season for actors in bubble shows to start making contingency plans. Case in point, Michelle Borth has landed the female lead in ABC's drama pilot "The Matadors," just in case her current ABC drama series, "The Forgotten," isn't remembered by network programmers. "Matadors," a Sony TV production, is being described as a Romeo-and-Juliet series set against a legal backdrop. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Borth ("Tell Me You Love Me") will play Juliana (subtle, we know), who works with her father in the state's attorney's office. She begins an affair with Alex (Zach Gilford), whose father runs an influential...

"The Shield" star Michael Chiklis is moving back to broadcast television with a lead role in ABC's drama pilot "No Ordinary Family."
Chiklis, who starred in "The Commish" and "Daddio" for ABC in the 1990s, will play the father of a family that's discovering it has special powers. He'll also be a co-executive producer of the pilot, the showbiz trade papers report.
"No Ordinary Family" comes from Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") and Jon Harmon Feldman ("Big Shots"), who worked together on "Dirty Sexy Money."
Chiklis has previously played a superhero in the "Fantastic Four" movies. We're going ahead and assuming he won't be turned into a rock-man like The Thing in "No Ordinary Family."

Friday Night Lights Mvp Zach Gilford has joined the cast of ABC's hour-long drama pilot Matadors, sources confirm to me exclusively. The prospective series revolves around two rival Chicago-based families, one in the DA's office and another in a high-powered law firm. Gilford, who is poised to make what could be (Spoiler Alert) his final Fnl appearance in next Wednesday's Season 4 finale, is playing Alex Galloway, the Romeo of a modern-day Romeo & Juliet story. No word on who'll play his Juliet, but here's a thought: How about Autumn Reeser? Just putting that out there.
