Liam Neeson has made quite a name for himself playing tough-as-nails badasses. He was in excellent form as the avenging father in the 2008 English/French action thriller Taken, where he sent chills through the collective spines of his audience when he told everyone about his "special set of skills" and that death was coming for those terrible men who kidnapped his 17-year-old daughter. Neeson exudes a tough guy naturalism that fits him like a tailored glove and audiences can't seem to get enough of it. Think of films like The Grey, where we watch him duke it out with a pack of wolves for 90 minutes, or A Walk Among the Tombstones, where the actor again takes up the mantle of a grizzled ass-kicker. It would seem that Neeson and crime-thriller films are a match made in neo-noir heaven. But it all had to start somewhere at some time. That time...

Alien: Romulus isn't going to be a CGI-fest.
Speaking about the upcoming film with THR, director Fede Álvarez commented on the movie's special effects. He shared how he'd brought in the same team who developed the Xenomorphs for James Cameron's Aliens to help craft the new creatures for Alien: Romulus. The filmmaker also addressed how spaceships were built and miniatures were used for the sets. That's not to say that there's no VFX in the film at all, but Álvarez suggested that it's only used as sparingly as possible, as the idea is for the audience to never pick up on it, taking them out of the movie.
Related Director Hints Alien: Romulus Will Be Scarier Than the First Alien Movie Director Fede lvarez says Alien: Romulus will avoid the pitfalls of Ridley Scotts Alien by doubling down on the sheer horror of the slasher story.

Anatomy of a Fall actress Sandra Hüller could be making a roast for Akiva Schaffer’s The Naked Gun reboot, so how hot and wet do you like it? A report from industry insider Daniel Richtman says Sandra Hüller is in talks to play the romantic lead in the forthcoming comedy, starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin from the Police Squad series and Naked Gun film trilogy.
In the Naked Gun trilogy, Lt. Frank Drebin falls in love with Jane Spencer (Lisa Marie Presley), an assistant for industrialist Vincent Ludwig, utterly unaware of his villainy. After a slapstick-ridden meet-cute, Frank and Jane form a heated courtship accompanied by steamy home-cooked meals, ultra-protected sex, and trips to the baseball field.
How Liam Neeson and Hüller’s characters cross paths in the Naked Gun reboot remains a mystery. We must also wait...

Liam Neeson's career took a major turn with the success of "Taken" in 2008, leading to a string of action movie hits. Neeson's upcoming role in "The Naked Gun" reboot marks a significant shift from his recent action roles, showcasing his comedic talent. With past experience in comedy films like "Ted 2," Liam Neeson has the perfect style to bring new life to "The Naked Gun" franchise.
Liam Neeson has had a major career change in the past, and one of his upcoming movies is primed to establish him in another genre. For most of Neeson's career, he was known for his dramatic movies like Schindler's List and Michael Collins. Some of Liam Neeson's best movies came from his time as a dramatic actor, though he had much more range than that. He has always taken various roles, even in action movies, but one of his movies marked a complete transformation for his entire career.

Frank Grillo knows what he wants.
The erstwhile Crossbones of the MCU has crafted a niche for himself as a contemporary Charles Bronson over the last decade, parlaying mainstream buzz from projects like “The Purge 2” and Mma drama series “Warrior” into a string of superior indie action movies — even if he himself shies away from Bronson comparisons when speaking about his career.
“Not that I’m comparing myself to Charles Bronson, because I couldn’t,” Grillo told IndieWire during a recent interview over Zoom, adding with a laugh, “Charles Bronson never took his shirt off on a soap opera.”
With respect to Grillo, Bronson simply didn’t have the same range. Grillo emerged from a three-year run on “Guiding Light” in the late ’90s to a decade as a working actor before landing a juicy supporting role in the Liam Neeson-starring “The Grey.” Then came 2014 and his role...

The Pacific is a companion series to Band of Brothers that follows real Marines fighting in WWII in the Pacific Ocean. The cast of The Pacific includes James Badge Dale, Rami Malek, Jon Seda, and Joseph Mazzello. The series showcases the loss of humanity and escalating brutality of battles against the Japanese military.
A companion series to HBO's acclaimed miniseries Band of Brothers, 2010's The Pacific cast brings to life the real people who participated in the harrowing World War II experiences depicted in the show. Set over the same few years as Band of Brothers, The Pacific focuses on United States Marines fighting the Japanese military forces on the island battlefields of the Pacific Ocean. Sweet Home season 3 could be the show's final season, as it is described as a "grand finale." Netflix's upcoming K-drama, Parasyte: The Grey, is based on the popular Parasyte manga and will be an original story based on that world. Parasyte: The Grey has the potential to be another major horror hit for Netflix, similar to Sweet Home.
Sweet Home could be ending soon, but Netflix already has the perfect replacement for the hit K-drama series – and it is a live-action adaptation of a horror manga. Sweet Home season 3 is being officially described as a “grand finale,” suggesting it could be the show’s final. This would make sense considering most of the webtoon Sweet Home is based on has already been covered, and that the stakes for the third season are extremely high.

It’s hard to imagine nowadays, but humans weren’t always at the top of the food chain. And with our ancestors being preyed upon by larger mammals and even our fellow humanoids, it stands to reason that we’d develop a generalized fear of the dark. That’s why it makes sense that cold places where the sun doesn’t routinely rise are naturally suited for spooky stories.
This is precisely what showrunner Issa López had in mind when she came up with HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, a brand-new murder mystery that returns the anthology show to its horrific roots. And with new episodes dropping weekly, we’ve decided to help viewers get an additional fix of frigid frights by recommending six arctic thrillers to watch after Td: Night Country.
As usual, don’t forget to comment below with your own arctic favorites if you think we missed a particularly spooky one.

Pierre Morrel's 2008 film "Taken" is brazenly morally irresponsible.
"Taken" was not so much a thriller as an indulgent "dad fantasy," rooted in xenophobia and male sexual hysterics. The lead character, Bryan Mills, played by a wholly devoted and utterly capable Liam Neeson, was a divorced dad of a teenage girl named Kim (Maggie Grace) who saw his clout as a parent disappearing into the wealthy black hole of a cold-shouldered ex-wife (Famke Janssen) and her attentive new husband (Xander Berkeley). Bryan is a former CIA agent, and his job kept him away from home enough to damage his marriage. When Kim announces that she and a friend are going on an international holiday together, Bryan warns her that such an excursion is dangerous; kidnappers, he knows, often target traveling American teenage girls and sell them into sexual slavery. It sounds paranoid and everyone dismisses him.

When “For All Mankind” first premiered on Apple TV+ in 2019, the period drama promised an in-depth look at the space race of the early ’70s. But this is not your usual NASA. In the world of Ron Moore’s series, the U.S.’s loss in the space race has a domino effect that begins with a heavy investment in sending women to space and culminates in everything from John Lennon’s survival to America’s first female president.

The Grey's ending leaves the fate of Ottway in question, as he faces off against an Alpha wolf, emphasizing the movie's larger themes of spirituality and man's quest for meaning. The deaths of the other characters in The Grey highlight the protagonists' sense of purpose and what gives their lives meaning, while also exploring themes of faith and the afterlife. Ottway's perseverance in the face of adversity is rooted in his father's poem, which urges him to continue fighting, emphasizing the idea that a life without purpose is a wasted death. The ending of The Grey prompts viewers to question how they choose to react to life's battles.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, world-renowned actor Liam Neeson is back for another action-packed adventure. This time, the Taken star will be taking his particular set of skills to his home country of Ireland as the lead in the star-studded cast of In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Liam Neeson's recent roles have primarily been focused on action-thrillers, with prime examples including the vengeful father in the Taken trilogy, a hardened survivalist in The Grey, a jaded ice trucker in Cold Pursuit, and so many more. However, that action career has led many to forget just how versatile of an actor Liam Neeson is. Over his long career, Neeson has played everything from a superhero in the woefully underrated Darkman, a supervillain as the great Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins, and even a noble Jedi Master in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Not to...

Marlowe is a movie directed by Neil Jordan starirng Liam Neeson. With Diane Kruger and Jessica Lange. It is based on a novel by John Banville.
Marlowe is one of those films that probably shouldn’t have been made, and let me explain why: the main character has all the connotations of a classic that has reached a “sacrosanct” status and is probably the one of the most untouchable characters in the history of cinema, then played by the greatest star in the zenith of the golden age the seventh art – Humphrey Bogart.
About the Movie
Whether it was well-made, brilliant, or even if Orson Welles had directed it, I would have reason to be a bit reticent with this film. And, indeed I am, for the obvious reason that it dares revisit an untouchable classic.

Liam Neeson stars in the upcoming action movie Retribution, and news around his latest thriller is setting up a movie that could be on-par with some of the actor's classics like Taken. Retribution is a remake of the 2015 Spanish- and French-language film El Desconocido, which is about a man whose family is put in danger when his former client returns seeking revenge. The movie takes a lot from Speed with its focus on someone remaining in a vehicle that can’t be exited, but it weaves in themes of greed and the idea of putting business above family that make the line between the good and bad guys a little blurrier.
Retribution joins the very long list of Liam Neeson movies, many of which have been highly acclaimed. In addition to an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for playing the title character in Schindler’s List, Neeson has received three...

Josh Duhamel will join the ensemble of the survival thriller “Not Without Hope,” an adaptation of Nick Schuyler and Jere Longman’s best-selling book that will be written and directed by Joe Carnahan. Also joining the cast are JoBeth Williams, Quentin Plair, Terrence Terrell and Marshall Cook.
As previously announced, Zachary Levi (“Shazam!”) is starring in the film, which tells the real-life story of a tragic 2009 boating accident involving Schuyler, his friends Will Bleakley (Cook) and NFL players Marquis Cooper (Plair) and Corey Smith (Terrell). Levi will play Schuyler.
The search-and rescue-operation captivated national attention. Duhamel will portray U.S. Coast Guard Captain Timothy Close, who oversaw a crew that cut through the ocean to try to find the friends who went missing. Carnahan has some experience orchestrating survival tales, having previously directed “The Grey,” which found Liam Neeson battling very hungry wolves after a plane crash stranded his character in a snowy mountain range.

Writers have had trouble adapting video games to movies and series for a long time. Among the notable failed adaptations of video games-to-movies are Resident Evil: Retribution, Postal, and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Creating a faithful yet different adaptation from a video game doesn’t always spell defeat, and the best recent example is the Netflix animated series Castlevania.
Castlevania is an adaptation of 1990's Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Dracula’s Curse and 2005's Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. It featured a simple singular story that involved the player moving throughout the country of Wallachia recruiting allies to kill Dracula. The first two seasons of the Netflix animated series follow this plot while further fleshing out the characters with various elements from other games. Premiering in 2017, Castlevania was an early indicator that video game adaptations did not have to be bad, and here is why the series was a hit with fans.

The actor shared the story during a recent appearance on Michal Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast. "I punched Ryan Reynolds in the face," Grillo admitted. "There's a scene where it's Ryan [Reynolds], Sam [Jackson], and Selma [Hayek], and we have them tied up. Their hands are behind their back, and I'm coming in to interrogate him. I'm the detective, and he's doing his thing when he yaps, you know, and I punch him in the face, right? So, I take a swing, and he goes, 'Grillo, do not punch me in the face'. I go, 'Brother, I've been boxing since I was 11. I'm not going to punch you in the face. Just don't lean in.' First take, I clip him right in the chin."

The Mother Director Niki Caro On Jennifer Lopez As A 'Primal Protection Force' [Exclusive Interview]
This post contains spoilers for "The Mother."
New Zealand filmmaker Niki Caro has been making hard-hitting, critically acclaimed motion pictures for decades. Her second feature, "Whale Rider," made Keisha Castle-Hughes the youngest Best Actress nominee in Academy Awards history at the time (although Quvenzhané Wallis eventually set a new record ten years later), and her harrowing sexual harassment drama "North Country" earned nominations for Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand for their roles as miners who embarked on a historic legal battle.
In recent years, Caro's films have become even more explosive. Her live-action remake of Disney's "Mulan" was expected to be one of the bigger hits of 2020, but its release was scuttled at the last minute due to the Covid-19 pandemic before eventually debuting on Disney+ with a premium surcharge. Now she's back with an action movie that was always intended for streaming: "The Mother," starring Jennifer Lopez as an...

Frank Grillo is an actor's actor. When he appears on-screen, you probably recognize his face, but may not be able to place the name or the projects he's been involved with. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will probably recognize him from appearances in multiple Captain America movies and Avengers: Endgame. Fans of gritty horror might know him from two appearances in The Purge franchise. But his best and most memorable performance is opposite Liam Neeson as oil rig worker John Diaz in the 2011 film, The Grey. Grillo has made hay within the gritty action genre for the majority of his career, and The Grey, a story about a group of marooned oil rig contractors in the wilderness of remote Alaskan who are left to endure the elements and packs of stalking, hungry grey wolves, is the kind of material that Grillo thrives on. And as Diaz, he puts everything...

Director David Twohy's The Chronicles of Riddick trilogy began in 2000, and the Riddick movies to date include Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, and Riddick. In addition to this, there is a Sci-Fi Channel special, Into Pitch Black. Now a fourth movie is coming with Riddick: Furya. Starring Vin Diesel as the eponymous Riddick, the convicted murderer/mercenary-warrior with surgically enhanced vision, the first movie was released with little fanfare in February 2000. Grossing $53 million (Box Office Mojo), it established Diesel as an up-and-coming action star. The first sequel, three years later, elevated the franchise from niche into the mainstream and was followed by the third film just under a decade later.

Taken star Liam Neeson reveals that he originally didn't think his now iconic speech in the beginning of the film was very good. Taken, which was directed by Pierre Morel and co-written by Luc Besson, stars Neeson as ex-CIA officer Bryan Mills, who travels to Paris to save his daughter after she is kidnapped by Albanian sex traffickers. He discovers this has happened because she was on the phone with him at the time, allowing him the opportunity to speak to one of her captors and threaten that he will hunt the villain down using his "particular set of skills."
Vanity Fair recently sat down with Neeson to discuss his 100th film Marlowe and his career at large. The conversation quickly turned to Taken, and he revealed that he had no sense of how iconic that opening speech would prove to be, but rather he says he thought it...

Marlowe has a packed and star-studded cast. Directed by Neil Jordan from a screenplay by William Monahan, famous for penning the acclaimed script for The Departed, Marlowe is based on the 2014 novel, The Black-Eyed Blonde, by John Banville, who wrote the book under the pen name, Benjamin Black. The film adaptation’s story is a continuation of the established titular character, who was created by author Raymond Chandler, while giving the private detective some modern sensibilities.
The neo-noir follows Philip Marlowe as he investigates the disappearance (and presumed death) of Nico Peterson after being tipped off about it by an heiress. Jordan has assembled a fantastic, talented, and well-known cast to portray the myriad of characters in Marlowe, most of whom have some kind of ulterior motive that Marlowe tries to figure out, all while finding himself knee-deep in illicit affairs the more he unearths their secrets.
