I've grown to like this show based on the fact that i love food and sight-seeing which is basically what this series is about. I initially put it on as a background noise while I play with my 6 year old in isolation during winter in England. We ended up watching the whole series... Even though my son doesn't understand the language he enjoyed it and asked me to take him to Busan and Jeju Island. We also loved the fact that it involves a lot of food. On top of that it gives you an idea of how beautiful South Korea really is. Also how accommodating and lovely Korean people are. It highlights the fact that it's always nice to have a good company around eating good food. You also tend to eat too much! Rain should be a chef as a 2nd career! I love watching them two having a banter and tease each other. Although Hong Chul was a little over the top with his obsessions of Netflix, it didn't deter me from enjoying the show.
If there'll be a 2nd season I hope they'll showcase markets around SKorea, cheap eats that people would go to locally. It might be a bit tricky but lots of celebrities have done it. Or, better yet, be hungry and hairy in a totally different part of the world where they try other cuisines!

It's one of those shows where you're just tired at the end of the day and you want to watch something light and fun. The places and the scenery really makes us want to go there.
I absolutely love watching Rain in this show. Who would've thought the superstar loves cooking and boldly adds truffles oil to Korean food. He's quiet but he can be funny. Itruly wish Hong Chul would stay quiet for a while. His loud ooh and aah honestly isn't easy for the ears, especially when we watch this at night. If you miss traveling in this pandemic time, the show is highly recommended.

I really liked Rain. I watched some of his videos on his youtube channel and what you see is what you get. He is funny, easy-going, knows how to hold a conversation. That being said, my problem was Ro Hong-chul and the dynamic between the two. I don't know if this is how he is all the time or he felt pressured to be over the top, loud and it got really annoying. I felt like he was trying to be "funny" every minute to offset Rain but Rain is funny enough on its own. The constant Netflix merch he would wear/show and shouting "Neflix" was at first funny but then got really annoying fast. By the forth episode I was already cringing every moment he obsessed about Netflix. The whole show felt like Rain is the main character and Ro Hong-chul is just a guest following him around, trying to be entertaining.
All that being said, I still really liked it. It doesn't showcase korean culture, history but focuses mainly on food and what it would be like going on a road trip with a friend. Fun, some sightseeing and lots of food.
Another positive thing is the soundtrack, Lee Sang-soon really did a great job.

Friendship, Adventure, Food and Comedy. What more can you ask.
I know its a reality show where things may be scripted but theres definitely a lot of real moments there.
Food was on point, Soundtrack was on point, the relationship between friends was also heart warming.
I really hope theres a Season 2.

THE HUNGRY AND THE HAIRY (2021)
Bikes. Food. Nature. Friendship.
Finally get to finish this show! Highly recommended. I super loved it! Ji-hoon(Rain) and Hong-Chul, many thanks for making me laugh and cry! I would love to visit all the places you went to and eat all the food you had. (I wish Rain can cook for me too!)
This made me miss Daddy(+). He used to ride bikes as well.
One day, I'll learn how to ride one. Perhaps one day!
10/10 for me.
Netflix!!!! Reed Hastings! Appa!

This show gives me peace and comfort after a long day at work. The duo literally fulfilled my traveling dream. Furthermore, the scenes where the casts sit down and share about their life create a very inviting and cozy atmosphere like one where you gather with your close friends and touch on the long lost memories. The Hungry and Hairy's honesty and friendship make the show unique.
HOWEVER, although the show brings comfort to viewers like me, my enjoyment was mostly disrupted by the Hairy's excessive scream. He screams repeatedly to the point that he becomes annoying on the show. I know while Rain is of a calmer person, Hong Chul is the balancing factor, who is witty and active. But I'm not sure if Hong Chul understand his assignment. If there is a season 2, improving Hong Chul's screaming in the camera would make the show much more pleasant to watch.

This show throws everything it can at the viewer to hold their interest, and for the most part it works. I was able to see a bit of South Korea, which I am near totally unfamiliar with, and felt like I was experiencing the country, at least in a very small measure, through the (superficial? Forced?) childlike personal interactions of the two men who are the center of the show's focus. The personalities and how they bounce off each other have energy enough, but in case the viewer wouldn't quite be sold on how exciting every second of every day is with those two, the production staff constantly bombards their audience with reinforcing animations and text. Keep in mind, when I say constantly I mean that I didn't have to wait more than five seconds before another brightly colored and vibrating headline filled the screen. While I enjoy digesting entertainment from other cultures, most of which I can't understand the languages of and so I need the subtitles, the amount of things competing for my attention made me have to rewind constantly just so I could read the text of the conversations.
This is where I started to think maybe this style of presentation is a cultural thing and maybe I need to have greater exposure to South Korean culture to appreciate the way the material was being conveyed to me. As I am right now, however, it felt like an onslaught of sounds and imagery who's sole intent was to dazzle. I hate using the word dazzle because it feels like something a crappy magician from the 1920s would say, but I hope it allowed me to accurately convey the idea of "you know it's exciting because of all the flailing about!"
I know that if I wanted serious insight into South Korean life I should have looked elsewhere, but in the end, I was grateful for getting to learn something about the people who made The Hungry and the Hairy, even if it likely wasn't what they may have intended.
Short feels: Hour-long live action Saturday morning kids show intro sequence.
The seizure sisters.
Adobe After Effects: Which effect haven't we tried yet?
Ecstatic to be on Netflix and we won't let you forget it.
Makes me wish I had a more tolerant palette.

This show was such a a therapy for me every time I watched an episode. It makes me want to visit South Korea even more now and explore the other parts of the country seeing how Rain and Hongchul visited stunning places - Jeju, Gochang, Busan, Gyeongju, Gangwon and Namhae. Korea is full of scenic and spectacular places!! What a beautiful country. Food scenes were done beautifully and the way they enjoyed everything they ate with such gusto and appreciation were the highlights for me. Seeing how SKoreans slurp their ramyeon and broth, share a bowl of yukgaejang or jjigae and gnaw at their meat, this is how food should be celebrated. Accompanied by the comedic relief by these two and all their dialogues, the show demonstrates why travel should be fun and spontaneously enjoyed.
The camaraderie seen from these group of actors/ friends and how they spend time together with genuine laughs, banter and uninhibited behavior makes this show real and enjoyable. I never knew about the music artist Lee Sang soon until this show and oh boy, what a discovery. The soundtrack courtesy of this musical genius was expressive, melodic and right on point. I have now started to listen to his songs and I love them!!
Yes, the antics were sometimes distracting and over the top but Hairy's character was such that he was overly expressive, sometimes hyperactive but I also witnessed his soft, sweet moments. I laughed a lot at his comical scenes and found that it matched the calmer, sweetness of Rain. These two are a match made in heaven!
Watch this show for it's joyful joy rides, fabulous food scenes, happy people, picturesque places and magnificent messages of friendship, camaraderie and delightful conversations of life and love. Happy viewing!!

The big colored titles and animation can be rather annoying. The cast is not bad except somewhat loud but that seems normal for Korean shows. In reality the show is just a rip of "The Hairy Bikers" and the bikers do it way better but then they been doing it for some 20 odd years.
Maybe if this show gets a second season they'll figure things out and it could be a really good show. It's still worth the watch but it could have been so much more.

Rain and Hong-chul has a very hilarious chemistry together. They are so opposite that make the show very funny to watch.
The Korean food presentation in the show makes me drool all the time. From how well the camera shots are to how delicious the food looks, I wish I could be there to eat everything.
The background songs they created are very upbeat and fun to hear.
There are some guests in the show like Lee Hyori and her husband that make the atmosphere more entertaining than it already.
Overall I think the show really highlights korean food and tourist places well.
Minus one star because the comedian can be a bit too obnoxious at some points as he gets overly excited.

The Hungry and the Hairy is a fun travel show and how can you not love it with Rain as one of the stars? Really as famous as he is in Korea I have only discovered him recently since am from the U S when saw him on another Netflix concert one try comeback series. He was so fantastic at his concert given at the government house had no idea of his talent. So this travel show attracted my attention when I saw it featured Rain. The other star have seen before but not really familiar with. It soon becomes apparent that they are opposites but that is what makes the show fun as they form their own friendship and have little contests amongst themselves with the winner making the other do something goofy like a challenge in the town or get styled for the ride by the winner, etc. So just all around fun show. They make friends and talk about their families a little too so you get to know the stars better-let's just say his family is so blessed to have such a nice guy. The other star is funny and brings out the humor in Rain too. All in all a fun show that features local cuisines and cookouts and even learned how to grill US steak with mayo to make it taste like expensive Korean beef worth 5x more.
