Big casting news has been revealed for Sheriff Country. Currently in the works with Morena Baccarin reprising her guest role from Fire Country, the show has now found her co-lead star.

Per Deadline, CSI: Vegas actor Matt Lauria has signed on to play the male lead opposite Baccarin in Sheriff Country. The series features Baccarin as Mickey Fox, the stepsister of Diane Farr's Sharon Leone who works as a sheriff in the small town of Edgewater. Lauria has been cast as Boone, Mickey's "smart, tough and capable deputy and longtime partner. Originally from Oakland, he’s used to a different kind of policing. Their contrasting law enforcement styles makes their partnership both complex and occasionally tense."

Two forces behind the beloved Showtime series The L Word have found their way back together.

Creator Ilene Chaiken and star Jennifer Beals have teamed to launch Run-A-Muck, a company described as a cross-platform queer media brand designed to produce content across film, TV and live events. Though they are not ready to reveal any projects that are already packed in their pipeline, the pair did reveal their business partners on the Run-A-Muck endeavor. Beals and Chaiken are joined by founding partners, WME’s director of impact and inclusion, Caroline Joyner, and business executive and entrepreneur, Jenn Smira.

The cast of NCIS: Origins is coming together.

Per Deadline, it's been announced that newcomers to the cast of NCIS: Origins include Diany Rodriguez as a younger version of Vera Strickland, Mike Franks' (Muse Watson) former partner. It had been previously reported that Vera, who was originally played by Roma Maffia in NCIS, would appear in the prequel series, but it wasn't yet known who could portray the character. This Vera is described as a "no-nonsense, sharp-witted Brooklynite who’s tough as nails and never minces words. She’s spent her entire career being underestimated by misogynistic morons (as she calls them), but if it’s a fight those good ol’ boys are looking for, then it’s a fight they’re going to get."

NCIS: Origins is a prequel focusing on Leroy Gibbs' early years in the 1990s. The show will feature new characters played by Tyla Abercrumbie and Diany Rodriguez. They join a cast that already includes Austin Stowell, Kyle Schmid, and Mariel Molino.

NCIS: Origins has added two new characters to its lineup. The upcoming show is a spinoff that serves as a prequel following the early years of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the character played by Mark Harmon on the flagship show for 18 years. Harmon, who departed the show in season 19, will be returning as the narrator for the spinoff, which is set to premiere during the 2024-2025 television season.

Per Deadline, the NCIS: Origins prequel has brought on two additional cast members. Tyla Abercrumbie and Diany Rodriguez have joined the show as series regulars, playing the knowledgable, protective Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo and the steely, determined Special Agent Vera Strickland respectively.

Exclusive: Tyla Abercrumbie (The Chi) and Diany Rodriguez (The Blacklist) round out the series regular cast of NCIS: Origins, CBS’ prequel to the venerable procedural, which has a straight-to-series order for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.

In the CBS Studios-produced series, they join previously cast stars Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino and Kyle Schmid.

Executive produced and narrated by Mark Harmon, Origins begins in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and chronicles Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the prequel, Gibbs (Stowell) starts his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling Nis Camp Pendleton office where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (Schmid).

Mike Nussbaum, a veteran character actor in film, TV, and theater, died Saturday at home in Chicago at 99 from natural causes.

His daughter, Karen, said he had been in hospice over the past year. He died a week short of his 100th birthday.

Nussbaum was among the oldest working actors in recent years, and was a huge presence in Chicago’s theater community. His credits include Gentle Rosenburg from Men in Black and Bob Drimmer in Fatal Attraction.

Film credits included House of Games, Things Change, Desperate Hours, Losing Isaiah, Steal Big Steal Little, Dirty Work, Osso Bucco, Towing, Tom of Your Life” and more.

Exclusive: Patrick Massett and John Zinman, the longtime collaborators known for their work as writers, producers and showrunners, have signed with Independent Artist Group for representation.

Massett and Zinman most recently ran Last Light, a dystopian thriler series for Peacock and Australia’s Stan, starring Matthew Fox and Joanne Froggatt. Their television careers began with the relic-hunter drama Veritas: The Quest, which they created and exec produced for ABC. The pair then went on to serve as co-executive producers of the Emmy Award-winning Friday Night Lights, along with shows like The Chicago Code and The Blacklist. They were also the showrunners for Wesley Snipes’ NBC pilot The Player.

Apple has given a series order to the drama “The Last Frontier” with Jason Clarke set to play the lead role, Variety has learned.

The series hails from creators Jon Bokenkamp, who previously created the hit NBC series “The Blacklist,” and Richard D’Ovidio, who previously worked with Bokenkamp on the 2013 film “The Call” as well as on “The Blacklist” and “The Blacklist: Redemption.”

In the 10-episode series, Clarke will star as US Marshal Frank Remnick, the lone Marshal in the barrens of Alaska. Per the official logline, “Frank’ s jurisdiction is turned upside-down when a prison transport plane crashes in the remote wilderness, setting free dozens of violent inmates. Tasked with protecting the town he’s vowed to keep safe, he begins to suspect the crash wasn’t an accident, but the first step of a well-crafted plan with international political implications.”

Bokenkamp, D’Ovidio, and Clarke all serve as executive producers on the show.

Jennifer Beals has copped herself a role on NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Beals is set to recur on the Svu offshoot as the yet-to-be-named wife of New York drug kingpin and Marcy Corporation head Preston Webb (played by Mykelti Williamson), our sister site Deadline reports.

“Anansi Boys” follows Charlie Nancy, a young man who is used to being embarrassed by his estranged father, Mr. Nancy. But when his father dies, Charlie discovers that his father was Anansi: trickster god of stories. And he learns that he has a brother. Now his brother, Spider, is entering Charlie’s life, determined to make it more interesting but making it a lot more dangerous.

Lindo will star as Anansi/Mr. Nancy. The character is described as all charm. As far as Charlie knows, his father was a lazy man who cheated on Charlie’s mother. But Mr Nancy had another side to him. He was a god of stories and trickery after all.

It’s been over 20 years since Hollywood evoked the vengeance-fueled specter of horror franchise Candyman, but the hiatus is coming to an end. With Hollywood’s reboot/remake epoch showing no signs of slowing down, and the buzz surrounding Blumhouse’s recent Halloween sequel/reboot, it appears that the Candyman’s cinematic rebirth is nigh.

Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions have conjured a new Candyman manifestation. Nia DaCosta (Little Woods) directed the film off a screenplay by Peele and Win Rosenfeld. The film is a “spiritual sequel” that “returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.”

The project arose after the rights—originally held by the now-defunct PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and distributed by Tri-Star—recently became available. MGM will produce with Monkeypaw, with Universal Pictures set to distribute.

It was previously reported that Lindo was bowing out of the CBS All Access series “The Good Fight” as he negotiated a leading role in the drama project, which is described as an ensemble family drama set in a fine dining restaurant in Harlem. He has been a series regular on “The Good Fight” since it began, but will exit the show after the upcoming fourth season.

Exclusive: When Sky and HBO’s lavish period drama Catherine The Great launches in the UK on October 3 and U.S on October 21, it will bring Jason Clarke’s biggest TV role in eight years.

The star of Zero Dark Thirty and Everest has not had a major small-screen part since The Chicago Code in 2011, but takes center stage in Catherine The Great as Dame Helen Mirren’s love interest Grigory Potemkin.

Potemkin is a swashbuckling military man, with a taste for women and an eye for a brawl. He charms his way into Catherine the Great’s affections, before leading her troops into battle with Turkey.

In an interview with Deadline the day after Catherine The Great’s premiere in London this week, Clarke said Potemkin was “behemoth,” and a role that demanded much of him — both in terms of preparation and performance.

Helen Mirren is willing to share her bed — but not her throne — in HBO’s upcoming limited series about one of history’s most revelatory rulers. The network on Friday released the first full-length trailer for Catherine the Great, which finds the Academy Award-winning actress stepping into the role of the strong, seductive empress.

Per HBO, the four-part drama — which premieres Monday, Oct. 21 at 10/9c — is “set against the politically tumultuous and sexually charged court of Russian empress Catherine the Great who wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century.”

Jason Clarke is suiting up for the HBO drama pilot “Showtime.”

The one-hour series focuses on the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. Clarke has been cast as Jerry West.

West first joined the Lakers as a player in 1960, being named an All-Star in all of his 14 seasons with the team before retiring in 1974. He was then named head coach in 1976, a position he held for three seasons. He went on to become a scout and then general manager in 1982.

Clarke’s West is described as the cantankerous tortured genius of basketball. West ought to be the perfect man to build the Lakers into a dynasty, if only he can get past his own worst enemy: Jerry West.

Jennifer Beals is running for a SAG-AFTRA national board seat as a member of presidential candidate Matthew Modine’s progressive Membership First slate.

Beals is best known for starring as Bette Porter on the Showtime series “The L Word” and for her lead role as Alex Owens in the 1983 hit “Flashdance.” She’s starred in the series “The Chicago Code,” “Proof” and “Taken.” Her film credits include “Devil in a Blue Dress,” “The Grudge 2” and “The Book of Eli.”

All hail Queen Helen Mirren: HBO has released the first photo of the Oscar winner in the four-part miniseries Catherine the Great.

Mirren stars as the Russian empress “towards the end of her reign during her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin (played by The Chicago Code‘s Jason Clarke),” per the official description. “Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, they develop a unique and devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together serving as the architects of modern-day Russia.”

Additionally, Sam Palladio (Nashville) has joined the cast as Alexander Vasilichikov, Catherine’s young lover.

Jason Clark has been cast opposite Helen Mirren in the upcoming HBO and Sky miniseries “Catherine the Great,” Variety has learned.

Clarke will star as Grigory Potemkin, a Russian military commander who became Catherine the Great’s lover, favored statesman and life-long friend. Mirren will star as the titular Russian monarch, who is described as strong-minded, independent, brilliantly intelligent and sexually liberated. MIrren will also executive produce in addition to directing.

Clarke will appear in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming film “First Man” opposite Ryan Gosling and was also recently seen in the critically-acclaimed film “Mudbound.” His other film credits include “Chappaquiddick,” “Terminator Genisys,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” On the TV side, Clarke starred in shows like “Brotherhood” and “The Chicago Code.”

He is repped by Wme, Robert Stein Management, and attorney Carlos Goodman.

The 4-episode “Catherine the Great” miniseries is produced by Origin Pictures and New Pictures.

It’s the Ides of March, and already Netflix has come to bury Caesar. That is to say, the streaming service has already made headway in phasing out some of its best acquired TV shows before even reaching the halfway point in the month: On March 14, seven seasons of Fxx’s animated comedy “Archer” left Netflix.

“Archer” taking its leave is part of the exodus of Fox, FX, and Fxx series from Netflix for Hulu. Most FX series will eventually live on Hulu, with the exception of “American Crime Story” and “American Horror Story,” which have Netflix deals for now, and “The Americans,” which streams on Amazon. But even though “Archer” has already jumped ship, there are still other entertaining series you can catch up on. With Netflix promising (threatening?) to release 700 original series this year, it’s just a matter of time that these other shows are eliminated to make room.

Before his stint on “Fire,” he had completed a short film for local filmmaker Ben-Hur Uribe, “Alonso, The Dream and the Call,” which has just been released for Amazon Prime download.

“Alonso, The Dream and the Call,” although completed several years ago, seems ripped from today’s headlines. Minoso portrays Alonso, a Latino immigrant living in Chicago and working long hours in construction to take care of his wife and kids. When a persistent cough won’t go away, the insurance-less Alonso has no choice but to wait it out in the emergency room, jeopardizing his work and family time. The film also features a cameo from Chicago actor and “Saturday Night Live” veteran Tim Kazurinsky.

But for me the best will always be “Freaks and Geeks.” It’s a show that I watched at an age before I really understood the whole TV renewal/cancellation process, but even then I knew it was unjustly short. Company is coming to visit Helen Mirren's character in the upcoming haunted house movie Winchester, as CBS Films announced that Jason Clarke has joined the cast as a psychiatrist who gets a lot more than he bargained for when he's sent to the haunted Winchester mansion to check on Sarah Winchester's (Helen Mirren) mental well-being.

Directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (Predestination, Daybreakers), Winchester will begin filming early next year in Melbourne, Australia, before coming stateside to shoot in the real-life Winchester Mystery House. Press Release: Los Angeles – September 13, 2016 – CBS Films announced today that Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Zero Dark Thirty) is joining Academy Award®-winner Helen Mirren (The Queen, Eye in the Sky) in the supernatural thriller Winchester. Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig (Predestination) are directing the film based on their screenplay with Tom Vaughan.

Shawn Ryan is the man behind solid TV shows like The Shield, Terriers, and The Chicago Code, so I'm always happy to hear about any new project he has in the pipeline. The latest is Night of the Gun, a six-episode miniseries based on the memoir of New York Times journalist David Carr that will star Bob Odenkirk and air on AMC, the network responsible for Odenkirk joints like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Ryan is set to write the series, and he and Odenkirk are executive producing.

Carr, who died in 2015, was a hugely respected journalist who wrote for the Nyt for thirteen years. He was a terrific writer who at one point struggled with addiction to crack, and his memoir — "a searing, hysterical look at the demon of addiction and his journey from the crack pipe to esteemed columnist for The New York Times" — and this show will explore that transition.

Marvel's Most Wanted has added a familiar face from the comics to its cast with Delroy Lindo (Malcolm X, Get Shorty, The Chicago Code), who will take on the role of Dominic Fortune. Dominic Fortune first appeared in 1975's Marvel Preview #2, in a story written and drawn by comics legend Howard Chaykin. A rogue and adventurer in the 1930s, Fortune craved wealth and excitement with his globe-trotting odysseys. A couple of weeks back, ABC confirmed that they were indeed moving forward with their Mockingbird/Hunter-led Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series, which is tentatively titled Marvel’s Most Wanted. The show will obviously feature Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as they reprise their S.H.I.E.L.D. roles of Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, respectively, but we now have our first new bit of casting information.

We have our first official casting announcement for Marvel and ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.D. spin-off, which is currently being dubbed Marvel's Most Wanted. Delroy Lindo (Ransom, Blood & Oil, The Chicago Code, Kidnapped, Malcolm X, Get Shorty) will join the previously announced Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as none other than Dominic Fortune - the Marvel Comics fortune hunter created back in 1975 by Howard Chaykin, who went on to feature in the 2010 miniseries, Hawkeye And Mockingbird. Amazon released its latest batch of pilots a couple of weeks ago, in the midst of press tour, so it took me a while to get to them, and I still haven’t had time to watch “Point of Honor.” But I saw all the other adult scripted series, and two clearly stood out as the ones I hope go to series: “The Man in the High Castle,” about a reality where the Axis powers won WWII, and “Mad Dogs,” about four middle-aged friends (played by Steve Zahn, Romany Malco, Michael Imperioli and Ben Chaplin) whose vacation to visit a fifth old pal (Billy Zane) goes terribly awry. Updated With Corrected Membership Figures: TV writer and producer Shawn Ryan was the top vote-getter in the WGA West’s board election, which saw a turnout of 22.4% of the guild’s members casting ballots. Ryan, creator and showrunner of The Shield and The Chicago Code, got more votes than all of the incumbents in the race, with his name appearing on nearly 67% of the 1,835 ballots cast. The guild has more than 21,000 members, according to its latest filing with the Department of Labor. The guild said there were about 8,200 members eligible to vote.

All five incumbents — Chip Johannessen, Scott Alexander, Michael Oates Palmer, Katherine Fugate and Marjorie David — won re-election to two-year terms on the board. Even though ratings were only tepid after its first resurrection by CBS, "Jericho" has won HitFix's first Uncanceled Showdown as the series fans would most like to see get a second (or, in this case, third) chance on air. After three weeks of voting, which saw over 900,000 votes cast, "Jericho" had no trouble conquering "Almost Human" in the final round and claiming our crown. The result had, we confess, been a bit of a foregone conclusion after "Jericho" pulled off its stunning quarterfinals upset over presumptive winner "Firefly" on the Multi-Season Arcs bracket. In the final, "Jericho" scored a whopping 86 percent of the vote again "Almost Human," which Fox cancelled this spring after 13 episodes.  Although "Jericho" hasn't aired new episodes since March of 2008, the show's dedicated fanbase remains mobilized after 2007's now-legendary nut-generated push which caused CBS to reconsider its initial cancellation. Well, this is not necessarily the final match-up we were expecting when the Uncanceled Showdown brackets were set up, but the competition has come down to two shows: "Almost Human," which held off a late charge from "Freaks and Geeks" to win the One-Season Wonder field, versus "Jericho," which crushed all comers, including the once-mighty "Firefly" and its browncoat fans. That is, of course, part of the fun of a thought experiment like this. "Firefly" seemed an obvious finalist, but it turns out that the same fans who convinced CBS to uncancel "Jericho" in the first place were able to stomp everyone in their path.
