There are a lot of movies on the issue of mixed marriages (christian/muslim), so it is easy to compare this one to them knowing that this issue is very common in Morocco, as 6 million of them live abroad. My opinion is that this one is maybe between the worst. Sorry, but it comes after several more realistic ones were made by Franco-Moroccan directors. The environment seems too touristic (showing the beauties of Marrakech and its surroundings) and the social part is poorly addressed. The movie lacks some "special event" that could have attracted the viewer, so it remains too monotonous from the start to the end.

Horst_In_Translation24 May 2015This is a 90-minute television movie from five years ago. It is one of these "Ein Sommer in..." films, which are usually really weak and entertainment for those only who do not want to think about a film really. And this one is no exception. I feel a bit sorry for Moroccans as, if they watch this, they must think Germans have no talent in terms of movies at all. Why Moroccans? well.. the entire film is playing there and some of the actors also come from Morocco. The lead actress is German though. It is Jutta Speidel, this time without her younger Italian ex-husband, but equally annoying as if he was with her. Speidel simply isn't a gifted actress at all and it's sad to see that people like her still take away leading characters from actually talented actors. Then again, this film is written so disastrously that probably no talented actress would want to have anything to do with it.
The movie's director has a prolific body of work and the writer worked on other "Ein Sommer in..."-movies in the past, for example a South African one as this is where she was born. These are really utter crap and it's truly bad to see enough people watch them on television, so they are even making new ones in 2015. The only good thing I can say is that it is not entirely predictable. I expected her to get together with her ex-husband in the end, but instead she gets together with the father of hew son-in-law. Maybe that is because her ex-husband gives off a serious homosexual vibe in this movie. By the way, I just hate it if characters are written like the perfect human beings. Of course, the Moroccan had to fall in love with her. And of course, Speidel's character is the one to talk sense into her step-son near the end when he finds out who his real father is. Who cares if the two hardly know each other. Hey it's Jutta Speidel. She can do that. Or that scene, where the Moroccan guy tries to kiss her and she is playing hard to get. Of course she does. After all, she is a very desirable woman. Well no.. she is just embarrassing in fact. The worst moment is at the end of the film right when you'd expect it can't get any worse when that Moroccan guys proposes to her after they only knew each other for a couple days. As bad as it gets in terms of movie-making and the writer (Stefanie Sycholt) should never be given a pen again. Or a laptop. Do yourself a favor and don't watch this piece of crap. Instead, if you actually want to see a smart and funny movie with a similar plot, I recommend "Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?" -

To complete this comedy, landscapes of Marrakesh, walks in the Medina, and landscapes of the mountains.
Good performances of Jutta Speidel, Peter Sattmann, Luise Helm, Wladimir Tarasjanz and Mehdi Moinzadeh.
