When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.
In the third trailer of the film, they use the song 'Kings and Queens' by 30 seconds to mars which was used in the marketing for Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole which was released the same year as the original How To Train Your Dragon in 2010.

After blindfolding Toothless, Hiccup changes the tail fin's position, and Toothless hesitates before also doing so. No change in Toothless's flight pattern is seen in any way, although some change in flight would have had to have occurred from the tail fins being in two different positions.
2 versions of the Dreamworks Animation logo are used at the beginning. The first one is a 20th anniversary logo and the second one is a version similar to the one in the first film.
