Exclusive: Nick Meyer has just informed his staff that he’s exiting as eOne’s President of Film when his contract ends next month.
The news comes as Hasbro is expected to settle on a buyer of its eOne studio division, those jockeying being Lionsgate and Legendary, and distributor GoDigital Media Group as Deadline first reported.
Hasbro bought eOne in 2019 for $4 billion. The toymaker is looking to unload all scripted and unscripted TV production (except for the Family Brands division housing such IP as Peppa Pig and Pj Masks), all film production and related global distribution and a 6,500-plus title content library and Hasbro’s interest in eOne’s Canadian film and TV business.
Former Sierra/Affinity Boss Meyer has had quite a streak, with 17 Oscar wins from 62 nominations and 10 BAFTA wins from 51 nominations under that label. He also produced such titles as The Woman King, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Mrs.

2022 was a gangbuster year for the U.K.’s unscripted TV sector. Rates soared as productions struggled to find crew such as editors and producer-directors because of the sheer amount of work available. “You were fighting over staff,” said one producer with almost 20 years experience, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
This year, he says, is the complete opposite. WhatsApp and Facebook groups are awash with freelancers desperately searching for a gig. Some have been out of work for months and, in a few cases, since last year. They are terrified about how to pay their rent or mortgages. Many have applied for government welfare. Others have taken work outside television until things pick up. Those who haven’t left the industry already are considering it.

Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix has taken on his next lead role, and it sounds like it may be the most risqué film we've seen from the actor yet. The movie comes from director Todd Haynes, whose latest film, May December, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. While speaking with press at the event, Haynes told IndieWire that his next movie will star Phoenix, and along with describing the untitled film as a "gay love story," it was also revealed that it will be rated Nc-17. And that's because of the insistence of Phoenix, as Haynes was content to keep things on the R-rated level.
"The next film is a feature that’s an original script that I developed with Joaquin Phoenix based on some thoughts and ideas he brought to me," Haynes explained. "We basically wrote with him as a story writer. Me and Jon Raymond and Joaquin share the story credit.

What The Weeknd wants, The Weeknd gets in “The Idol,” a skintastic, dark-side-of-showbiz fable that perpetuates the myth that pop stars are corporate puppets with no say in their own image-making, even as it allows hit-maker The Weeknd to call the shots.

Ron Howard has lined up an all-star cast for his next feature film, dubbed Origin of Species. Deadline reports that the survival thriller, written by Noah Pink (Tetris), will star Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts and the Secrets of Dumbledore), Ana De Armas (Blonde), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), and Daniel Brühl (All Quiet on the Western Front). The project will be shopped at the upcoming Cannes market with plans to start filming in late 2023 in Queensland, Australia.
Origins of Species is said to be inspired by a true story, based on two different accounts of the same event. The filmmakers describe the movie as a "darkly comic tale of murder and survival, set around a group of eclectic characters who abandon civilization for the Galapagos. They are all searching for the answer to that ever-pressing question that plagues us all: what is the meaning of life.”

For cinephiles, the anticipation for Blonde, the 2022 biopic about Marilyn Monroe, was substantially high. Because of the previous track record of excellence from director Andrew Dominik. However, many were incredibly disappointed by the film. It was a major step backward for the director who once crafted one of the most elegant and profound post-modern Westerns. In 2007, when acclaimed directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Joel and Ethan Coen, and David Fincher were releasing some of their greatest artistic achievements, Dominik reinvigorated the Western genre with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. In just his second feature film, the director vaulted into the great Western canon, with the likes of John Ford, Sergio Leone, and Clint Eastwood.

Andrew Dominik created one of the most controversial films in recent memory with the Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, which was based on the divisive novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. While Blonde is intended to be a fictionalized version of real events, many viewers did not take kindly to the graphic depiction of sexual assault and the Nc-17 rating. While Ana de Armas’ performance was highly acclaimed and even honored with an Academy Award nomination, the film itself has been ridiculed. It recently took home the Razzie awards for Worst Picture and Worst Screenplay at the 2023 ceremony.
It should be noted that Blonde was not completely met with negative reactions, as Colin Farrell recently praised it, and initial reviews out of the Venice International Film Festival were much kinder than those that ran once the film was available on Netflix. Pretty much every veteran actor will sometimes think about the "role that got away," and that's most often the case when the film in question goes on to become a huge success. Christina Applegate knows what this is like, as she can immediately think of the biggest role she turned down that has her questioning if she made the right decision. It's a revelation that came during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, as Applegate was reflecting upon her career. The trip down memory lane comes as Applegate says she'll likely never work on-camera again following her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
Asked about a role she wishes she hadn't turned down, Applegate named the legal comedy film Legally Blonde. Released in 2001, the movie starred Reese Witherspoon as a blonde-haired, pink-obsessed sorority girl who attends Harvard Law School hoping to prove wrong the stereotypes about the intelligence of blondes. The “small film with a giant heart” has forced the academy to change its Oscar campaign rules. On Monday, months after Andrea Riseborough landed a shock Best Actress nomination for the micro-indie “To Leslie” following a controversial awards campaign, the academy revealed new promotional rules for the 2024 Oscars and beyond.
“The campaign promotional regulations, which specify how motion picture companies and individuals directly associated with Oscars-eligible motion pictures may promote such motion pictures, achievements and performances to Academy members and how Academy members may promote Oscars-eligible motion pictures, achievements and performances, underwent the most significant overhaul since their inception in 1994,” the academy said in a statement.
Among the so-called “substantive updates and changes of note” included:
Clarification of rules regarding private events and gatherings. Clarification of rules regarding general and direct communications to Academy members. Chris Evans used his friendship with Ana de Armas to recruit her for their movie 'Ghosted' after Scarlett Johansson dropped out.Chris and Ana star in the new Apple TV Plus action movie but director Dexter Fletcher has revealed Scarlett had originally been cast to play the female lead partly because of her longtime friendship with the actor - and when she had scheduling issues, Chris had to bring in another of his female pals.Fletcher told The Hollywood Reporter: "I was lucky enough to get on well with Chris and meet him, and he was like: 'Look, Scarlett is a great friend. I’m just gonna ask Scarlett'. And obviously, I had no objections to that pairing, and for a while there, it seemed really positive and very good ... Frank Ocean’s Coachella performance last Sunday (April 16) was so bizarre, beginning with the fact that much of it took place backstage, that some critics assumed it had to be a deliberate, brilliant deconstruction of expectations for festival headliners. Or something. Then Ocean himself said it “wasn’t what I intended to show” and canceled his performance for Coachella’s second weekend, a move his reps claimed was made on doctor’s orders due to a leg injury. Frank Ocean at Coachella should have been a triumphant comeback – a jewel in the crown of US hip-hop’s most enigmatic star. Fans had waited long enough, after all. First scheduled to appear at the festival back in 2020, Ocean was all set to mark his return to music after a lengthy hiatus. Delayed by the pandemic, as well as a family tragedy, he finally joined Puerto Rican reggaeton star Bad Bunny and K-pop princesses Blackpink at the top of the bill for 2023’s outing. Expectations were sky high.
From the die-hard supporters who journeyed to the California desert to the fans across the world tuning into the festival’s live-stream, a lot of people were ready and waiting for his Sunday night set. What a disappointment, then, when the reality fell far short of what was promised. With Ocean coming off as nonchalant and unprepared, and eager fans left frustrated,...

Watching Chris Evans and Ana de Armas in the new Apple Original Film "Ghosted," it's hard not to think about the power of truly brilliant screenwriting. Specifically, it's hard not to think about how difficult brilliant screenwriting must be, seeing as it's nowhere to be found here. We have seen Evans and de Armas separately prove themselves to be immensely charming and charismatic performers, and we have seen them bounce off each other with aplomb in the excellent murder mystery "Knives Out," which served as something of a larger breakout role for de Armas and as a reminder that Evans had a lot more depth as a performer than just playing Captain America. They have both been very good before, and they'll hopefully be very good again. As long as they have good scripts, that is, because "Ghosted" sadly ain't it.

Since her breakout roles in "Blade Runner 2049" and "Knives Out," Ana de Armas's star has ascended quickly. Over the years, she's played Bond girl Paloma in "No Time to Die" and Marilyn Monroe in the controversial movie "Blonde," a performance that garnered her a Best Actress nomination at the 2022 Oscars. She's also starring alongside Chris Evans in "Ghosted," a hybrid thriller-romance that hits Apple TV+ on April 21, 2023. Yet despite her high-profile persona, she's continued to remain low-key about her personal life over the years.
She has had one highly publicized relationship, though, with none other than Ben Affleck. The pair costarred in "Deep Water," an erotic thriller based on the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, which premiered on Netflix in 2020. In the movie, she and Affleck play Vic and Melinda Van Allen, a husband and wife who resort to dangerous mind games to keep their marriage interesting.

Frank Ocean hasn’t performed in six years, but the alternative R&b singer returned to the stage at Coachella on Sunday night. Ocean was scheduled to headline the festival in 2020 before the pandemic hit, and again last year before he postponed the performance to 2023.
Rumors spread beforehand about possible new music as Ocean hasn’t released a studio album since Blonde in 2016. It made Ocean’s set one of the most anticipated of Coachella.
Earlier that day, the festival announced that Ocean’s set wouldn’t be live-streamed on YouTube like every other performance. His show was scheduled to start at 10:05 p.m., but he didn’t show up after an hour, causing many to fear he had canceled.

Ana de Armas and Chris Evans in “Ghosted,” premiering April 21, 2023 on Apple TV+. Ana de Armas and Chris Evans have spent a lot of time working with each other over the past few years. After first meeting on the set of Knives Out, they starred together last year in a Netflix thriller called The Gray Man; now, they’re co-starring again in a spy thriller called Ghosted. For de Armas, whose star has been on the rise thanks to her Oscar nomination for Blonde, getting to act alongside Evans again has been a great experience for her because, as she told us, she’s learned a lot from watching the way he works. Frank Ocean broke all the rules in 2016. Marked by its heart-shattering vocals, "Blonde" was an intimate and expressive sophomore album met with critical acclaim and continued devotion from fans. From "Nikes" to "Godspeed," the sorrowful lyrics had us hooked, but before the static-laced notes of "Futura Free" trickled to a finish, he was gone. Now, seven years later, Ocean's hiatus may finally be coming to an end. During weekend one of Coachella, Ocean appeared as a headliner at the 2023 festival alongside Bad Bunny and Blackpink, where he addressed rumors that a new album is in the works.
"It's been so long. Everybody talks about how long its been," he told cheering fans, according to video footage shared on Twitter. "It's been so long but I have missed you. I want to talk about why I'm here because it's not because of the new album.

Ana De Armas has shared a sweet story about Robert DeNiro visiting her family in Cuba.
The Blonde star made her Saturday Night Live debut over the weekend.
During the episode, De Armas delivered a heartwarming monologue in which she recalled some of her early experiences in Hollywood.
The Cuban-Spanish actor, 34, began her career in Cuba before she moved to Spain at the age of 18. In her twenties, she moved to Los Angeles.
“This has been a magical year. Not only was I nominated for an Oscar, but in three weeks, I’m going to officially become an American citizen!” de Armas said. “I am proud to become a citizen because when I moved here, everyone was so welcoming.”
One person she gave a special shout out to was Robert DeNiro, whom she starred with in her first film in the US, the sports biopic Hands of Stone (2016).

We're heading into the final stretch of "Saturday Night Live" season 48. There will probably at least a couple more episodes to close out the season in May, but before that, we've got Oscar nominee Ana de Armas taking on hosting duties for the first time.
Not only is Ana de Armas fresh off her acclaimed performance in the controversial Marilyn Monroe centric drama "Blonde," she's also starring alongside Chris Evans (who won't go anywhere near "SNL") in the Apple TV+ action comedy "Ghosted." Before now, de Armas hasn't gotten much of a chance to be funny. Even in the comedic murder mystery "Knives Out," she wasn't the one bringing the laughs. But "Saturday Night Live" is exactly the kind of place that allows for dramatic stars to cut loose and have fun. Thankfully, de Armas was willing to do just that, and the result was a thoroughly entertaining and satisfying episode of "SNL.

Los Angeles, April 16 (Ians) Actress Ana de Armas paid homage to her Cuban roots during her ‘Saturday Night Live’ hosting debut.
As the ‘Blonde’ star emerged on stage for her monologue, she greeted the audience in Spanish, before opening up about her experience coming to the United States, reports Variety.
“I speak English,” De Armas continued.
“But I didn’t when I first got to the U.S. I was born in Cuba. I came to America when I was 26, and I learnt English the way everyone who comes to this country does: by watching ‘Friends.'”
“Who would have thought that the best English tutor would be Chandler Bing?” De Armas joked, proceeding to mimic the fan-favorite sitcom character. “I mean look at me now; could I be any better at English?”
De Armas went on to explain the hardships she faced coming to America with English as a second language.

Ana de Armas said Robert De Niro is to thank for one of the best surprises her father has received.
During her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live, the Cuban-born actress recalled working with the Raging Bull actor one day on set while filming her first movie in the U.S., Hands of Stone.
“He told me, ‘I may be going to Cuba soon. If I do, I’ll say hello to your family,'” she said. “He even asked me for their phone number.”
The Blonde star said she actually completely forgot to give the GoodFellas actor the number, but “then one day, out of the blue, I get a phone call from my dad.”

Saturday Night Live monologues can run the gamut from cringeworthy and silly to movingly sincere. On Saturday night, host Ana de Armas’s debut SNL monologue fell into the latter category.

Oscar-nominated Blonde star Ana de Armas goes for the drama and the jugular in the latest Saturday Night Live promo, with cast member Chloe Fineman not all that impressed with either approach.
De Armas will make her hosting debut this weekend, just in time for the April 21 release of Ghosted, the Apple+ romantic comedy action-adventure film costarring Chris Evans.
Channeling some of that action-adventure spirit in the new SNL promo, de Armas brainstorms ideas with Fineman for what are supposed to be the week’s comedy sketches. Fineman tactfully tries to dial back the actor’s theatrics – if bird calls can be considered dialing back – with potentially dangerous results.
De Armas will be joined on the April 15 SNL by musical guest Karol G, who recently released the album Mañana Será Bonito.

It appears that there is a reason why Chris Evans has yet to make his Saturday Night Live hosting debut.
During an Et Canada interview that published Tuesday with Evans and Ana de Armas discussing their upcoming action comedy Ghosted, the conversation turned to the fact that the Blonde actress will mark her first time leading SNL with its upcoming April 15 episode. When asked if he would be up for a cameo in the episode that features Karol G as the musical guest, Evans made it clear that a brief appearance would be far more appealing to him than actually hosting the NBC sketch comedy series.
“Well, now a cameo I can handle,” Evans replied. “I’ve avoided hosting SNL like the plague for years now just because I’m so scared. It’s terrifying to me.”

Chris Evans has an idea in terms of how his character could maybe rejoin the “Knives Out” franchise.

Evans and de Armas recently sat down with Et Canada’s Carlos Bustamante, with them being questioned on what they’d say if director Rian Johnson called them up and asked whether they’d want to bring their characters back.

Playing Beau Wassermann, the character who gives Ari Aster’s third feature its name, Joaquin Phoenix goes balls to the wall in a performance of astonishing intensity that holds nothing back. Beau lives next door to a peep show emporium called Ejectus Erectus, and at one point is informed by a medic that his abnormally distended testicles are cause for concern, which is just one of many indications that this guy badly needs to — how to put it delicately? — oh heck, shoot a load.
Three hours that definitely put the odd in odyssey, Beau Is Afraid could be said to suffer from the same bloat, wandering through bizarre detours of varying effectiveness before arriving at a wonderfully overripe operatic climax elevated by Patti LuPone as the Lydia Tár of single mothers. But even if its pacing is uneven, this is a movie of undeniably impressive big swings.

Ana de Armas is continuing her in-demand status with a slew of upcoming projects.
The 2023 Oscar nominee may have admitted that her provocative turn as Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s “Blonde” wasn’t meant to be enjoyed, but her filmography has spoken for itself. Since breaking out stateside in 2015 erotic thriller “Knock Knock” opposite Keanu Reeves, de Armas has become a Bond girl, transformed into an American icon, and cemented her A-list status as an Academy Award nominee. She went on to appear in “Blade Runner 2049” and “Knives Out,” while also making a trio of films with co-star Chris Evans, including upcoming action comedy “Ghosted.”
The “No Time to Die” actress previously said that there is “no need” for a female take on James Bond, and perhaps it’s because as a certified action star, de Armas already is a Bond in her own right.

Chris Evans has nothing but praise for his Ghosted co-star Ana de Armas and her dedication to intense stunt work. Set to premiere on Apple TV+ later this month, Ghosted is a romantic action-comedy based on a story by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Directed by Rocketman’s Dexter Fletcher, the film was originally intended to have Scarlett Johansson star opposite Evans, but scheduling conflicts forced her role to be recast with de Armas instead.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Evans expresses his admiration for de Armas, with whom he had previously worked on Knives Out and The Gray Man. Suggesting that the quickly rising star “throws herself into everything completely,” he compared her stunt work to something akin to what audiences would see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow. Check out his comments below:
Plus getting to work with Ana again... she's fantastic. We've done a few things together now,...
