  • I have to disagree with the previous critic mentioning this look like a chick flick. If anything, it's just sad that they amplified his portrait as a bad father/husband. A part from that, It was a pretty good rendition of the tragic life of this amazing singer. My main problem is the accent that the lead role chose. I heard Gerry on TV a few times and I don't feel that's the way he talked. The accent annoyed me pretty much all through the movie. The singing was highly credible though and I feel they gave tribute to his music better than the movie Dede did for Les colocs . All in all, the movie has more high than lows although it was maybe 20mins too long.

    7.8/10
  • I am not a fan of Gerry Boulet, I am not a fan of Offenbach either, but the songs are famous and everyone here (in Quebec) knows them. I watched the movie to get more familiar with the iconic man and group. Did not learn much about either.

What disappointed me the most and was not only a turn off, but an irritable, is the bad québécois accent that the lead, St-Amand, takes, even though he is Québécois himself. I had to go watch interviews of Gerry on YouTube to see if he really spoke like that and nope! St-Amand fails at nailing the spoken voice and accent of the singer, making it ridiculously emphasized (Françoèwize instead of Françwawz). He could've just spoken like his normal québécois!

Man this movie could have been good. But it have been wrote by Nathalie Petrowski and this woman has no talent. (her father was famous and shes been living on that forever). So it look like a movie made for television, it feel cheap. (and normally Quebec craft-man can do good with low budget, but this movie look like a low budget one). Fan of Ofenbach or Gerry Boulet will be disappoint cause this movie seem to be made by a woman for woman's. The dialogue are laughable, the haircut look ridiculous. Since the death of great director Jean-Claude Lauzon, Quebecois cinema seem to be dead..and this movie just kill it a bit more...
