This show was just not very good and the jokes, writing and acting were terrible. I still wonder why this was even given a green light anyway. Who makes a TV show based on a movie ten years after the movie came out, when the movie wasn't even a hit? I mean really?
  • Sorry, I've got to disagree, this is far and away the best Canadian comedy on network TV today - way better than Dan for Mayor or Hiccups *shudder*! It's fresh and amusingly funny in its portrayal of small-town Canada - which is not a lame excuse for anything, but rather a genuine pulse on the heartland. I found it neither elitist nor dumbed down, but relatably funny! By touching on social trends like vegetarianism, they're using comedy and comedic ignorance to open up public discourse and understanding - not mockery. Also, the show invites characters of different races into the fray without defining those characters by their race which is so refreshing! Every character is a character, and entertaining ones too, not playing up racial difference for cheap laughs! The cast does a solid job overall and the lead, Brendan Gall, has great comic timing. He's got a definite Seth Rogen vibe going' on. And I'm totally digging Paul Gross' narration. It improves the show much in the same way Ron Howard's did for Arrested Development. The self-conscious, self-referential asides to the audience play for some of the show's best laughs! Oh, and for the record, Paul Gross hasn't lost a step haha Love that guy!
  • Much better than the movie with the same title. The comedy, although sometimes a little dry, was fantastic. Being a curler and a fan of comedy shows, I really enjoyed this and am saddened that it is so difficult to find or view episodes in the US. The comedy and entertainment value, to me, was a curlers comedy version of somewhere in the middle of "Friends" and "Joey".

I honestly thought it would last at least 2-3 seasons. One season was just not enough...

So, I am just looking forward to someone letting me know that there will be a DVD release of this show in the near future. Someone, please...
  • I didn't like this show (it would appear most people certainly did not like it) but worse than that I didn't even understand it. I still can't figure out why this show was made... how did this happen?

Men with Brooms was a harmless, not very good but still much better than this TV version, movie. That movie came out in 2001 or 2002 and did OK for a Canadian film. By that I mean it actually got released in theatres and some ho-hum reviews and word of mouth but overall didn't make much at the box office and probably lost money. Nobody raved about it and it's not like people were still talking about it months let alone years later.

So why make a TV version almost a decade later? Especially when you don't even have the good, talented, relatively famous cast they had in the movie?

A bunch of no name actors doing a watered down, stretched out, poorly written imitation of a riddled with plot holes movie than wasn't even successful when it first came out like 9 years before. How could they be surprised it flopped? Maybe a movie sequel would have made more sense.

Anyway hopefully they don't repeat the same mistake again any time soon. Avoid this show like the plague because it's not even funny, and the movie's not very good either so not worth watching unless you're a huge Paul Gross or Leslie Nielsen fan.

This is funny stuff. Not a smutty joke to be had and it is genuinely funny. I wish they had made more episodes. The voiceover from Paul Gross only makes it even funnier. The women aren't love interests and the guys aren't obsessed with chasing women. Occasionally there is some curling too!
  • The only thing I can say to those reading this or checking up on this series. Avoid this show like the plague and let it die out fast. This show is just sad and bad on all levels. Paul Gross does nothing but put out garbage now. Sad, cause I used to be such a big fan. The acting is low level, the voice over during the episodes are better left out as it seems to only tell me what I already am aware of making its viewers just feel dumber than they already do for having tuned in. The vegetarian jokes are very tiresome as people as a society have grown used to the fact of this fast growing lifestyle some (not me) choose. Having the Rocko Jocko meatatarian making it "gay" not in so many words is insensitive and just immature on the level lower than that of an ignorant high schooler. I found the show to have racist undertones as well as sexist ones, which when delivered tastefully could be funny, sure. But this is something they fail at miserably, making their characters look like ignorant, backwood rednecks instead. Don't give me that small-town mentality stuff either, it's a lame excuse for stupid, embarrassing behavior.
  • I think the good reviews must be by crew members or the show's stars because this show was terrible, flopped very hard and was canceled right quick. Not only was the show bad and not funny, with a terrible cringe worthy cast, it is just basically a very bad mistake to make a TV show version of a movie from like a decade earlier that also was pretty much a flop (even though it had a great cast), especially with a totally different cast (that is much worse). Huge mistake and bad show, was glad to see it go.
  • This show was just a terrible idea and also was terrible in how it was executed. Taking an independent Canadian movie from years ago that was not great or successful in the first place then turning it into a cheaper, even more watered down version without any of the good, big name actors, that is just an exercise in hopeless futility. This was a terrible concept that had no hope which then also was given little to no effort. Doomed to failure as it should have been.
