Showtime has tapped Emmy-nominated comedy writer R.J. Fried as showrunner of its new untitled half-hour animated series centered on the Trump White House, executive produced by Stephen Colbert. A three-time Emmy nominee, Fried most recently served as co-executive producer and head writer for Problematic with Moshe Kasher. His credits also include The Late Show with David Letterman, Triumph's Election Special 2016, Maya & Marty, Night of Too Many Stars, Onion Sportsdome, Po…...

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the résumé of new Spider-Man director Jon Watts isn't the Eli Roth-produced Clown, despite the amount of attention that credit has received on social media. (Although the fact that the movie — which started life as a YouTube parody with a fake Roth credit — was made at all is definitely worth noting.) Instead, it just might be how funny it all is. In addition to the parodic origins of Clown, Watts has directed episodes of two of The Onion's forays into television — Onion SportsDome and the much-missed The

AmazonStudios is taking a more unusual approach by letting viewers decide what they want to keep watching. The company has kicked off its screening process this weekend by unveiling its inaugural slate of 14 pilots — eight comedies and six kids shows, all made available for free on AmazonInstant Video, LoveFilm UK and LoveFilm Germany. Viewers are being invited to watch the pilots and Amazon is welcoming feedback from its audience. According to Deadline, the company will evaluate feedback from an online panel recruited on Amazon preview as well as traditional offline focus groups to decide if they greenlight a series or not. The highest-profile series is Zombieland, but the two that look most interesting are Alpha House, starring John Goodman with cameos by Bill Murray and Stephen Colbert; and Onion News Empire. Amazon has not yet decided how many of the shows will make the cut, nor when they will premiere.

LOVEFiLM have revealed that the service will host 11 original TV series test pilots for members to stream for free. The never-seen-before children’s and comedy content is being produced by Amazon Studios – the original film and series production arm of Amazon.com.
LOVEFiLM members in the UK and Germany will be able to watch the content and viewer response will then help determine which series Amazon Studios take into full-season production. The move follows the announcement of Amazon Studios’ first pilot production commitment last December which gave six original comedy shows the green light. It brings the total number of Amazon Studios pilots currently in production to 11.
The eleven pilots include:
Creative Galaxy – Creative Galaxy is an animated interactive art adventure series, designed to inspire kids’ creative thinking through crafts, story, music and dance. The series was created by Angela Santomero, creator of Super Why!, the Emmy-nominated literacy series, Blue...

Exclusive: Amazon Studios has landed another big-name actor for one of its first six comedy pilots. I’ve learned that Jeffrey Tambor is set to star in The Onion Presents: The News. The project, from The Onion’s Will Graham & Dan Mirk (The Onion News Network, The Onion Sportsdome), is described as a fast-paced scripted comedy set behind the scenes of The Onion News Network that shows just how far journalists will go to stay at the top of their game. Tambor will play David Everett, Onn’s oldest and most respected news anchor. He is intellectual, highly ambitious, cutthroat and insecure as he believes his job is being threatened by the younger Cameron, whom David detests. Todd Strauss-Schulson is directing. I hear Tambor was also courted for a broadcast pilot but opted for the Amazon project. He joins John Goodman and Bebe Neuwirth, who recently joined other Amazon Studios pilots.

Amazon Studios has ordered six pilots for Amazon Instant Video, including "Browsers," a musical comedy set at a Huffington Post-like website. All six pilots will be hosted on Amazon Instant Video and viewer response will determine which pilots get a series order.
"Since launching our original series development effort, we have received more than 2,000 series ideas from creators around the world with all different backgrounds, and we are extremely excited to begin production on our very first set of pilots," Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, said in a statement. "The six comedy pilots will begin production shortly, and once they are complete, we plan to post the pilots on Amazon Instant Video for feedback. We want Amazon customers to help us decide which original series we should produce."
Viewers will be able to watch all six pilots for free, but when a show goes to series it will be...

Imagine meeting a name-dropping, bad-movie-premiere boasting, desperately hustling Hollywood agent from the 1980s. The viral video of the “Warren Klein” answering machine tapes would be the one-sided conversation you’d have with such a creature.
The six-minute slide-show, with audio purporting to be messages left by this agent for clients C. Thomas Howell, Jami Gertz, and Kirk Cameron, are currently cracking up the industry as the Funny or Die clip pinballed around Twitter and Facebook today. “Are you ready for the money?” he says to Cameron, about a role in 1989′s forgettable debate-team St. Elmo’s Fire wannabe Listen to Me.

Michael Torpey is a hilarious comic who is a correspondent for Onion SportsDome, a show that’s part of the Onion Sports Network. In this heart-warming piece, Torpey and his Wish Zone team help an injured young athlete’s greatest wish come true. Onion SportsDome Awesome. That kid who plays Dylan is so good. Also, I really enjoy the subtle nod to Friday Night Lights‘ Dylan Panthers, football-related paralysing injury-wise. Clear eyes, full hearts, cold revenge. You can watch SportsDome on Comedy Central, Tuesdays at 8/7 C...
