| Bridget Jones + Bridesmaids + (Sex and the City – glamor) = Girls
This show brings a breath of fresh air to everything we are used to see on TV. Mainly, because it sweeps away the usual female stereotypes. These women look, act and talk like real people, at least like middle class girls living in a big city do. I found myself laughing out loud at so many scenes… All the characters, their problems and conversations, remind me of my friends and the stupid things we did, dealing with how we expected our jobs, our relationships, and ourselves to be; and how they actually end up being. Of course, it is fiction; furthermore, it's a parody: every situation in this show is exaggerated and ridiculous. You have to bear that in mind before complaining about how stupid everyone looks here. And yes, the characters are neurotic, clueless and selfish. Some people find it difficult, or –to my surprise– impossible to root for them. This really strikes me, because, aren't the characters from 'Seinfeld', 'Curb your Enthusiasm', or even Woody Allen's movies like that? Nobody in this show looks like a model, and some viewers find it very difficult to bear. There are many pseudo-explicit sex scenes (and nudity), but they all seem relevant to the story that is being told. I was very skeptical about this show. I started watching it with no expectations. Because of some awful reviews, I thought I was going to hate it. Besides, the poster and the description don't say much. But, to my surprised, I ended up watching ten chapters in a row. I'm still not sure whether to recommend it or not. You may love it, or you may hate it. See it for yourself, and then decide whether it is for you, or not. My advice: if you don't like the pilot so much, it gets a lot better from chapter two.
