Serious-minded to a fault, this debut feature from writer-director Mischa Webley is a bit of a mess, but committed work from a talented cast gives it unexpected power.
No aspect asserts itself strongly enough for the whole to satisfy, and at times the pic’s humorless approach to cliches unintentionally borders on “MacGruber” territory.
The film grasps for credibility with scenes of a support group (featuring some real veterans) and cryptic voice-overs that strive for profundity but achieve only pretentiousness.
