  • Before shows like Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, or Double Dare Nickelodeon's most popular show was the 1981 children's sketch comedy series called You Can't Do That On Television. The show was most noted for its use of the green slime which is now the trademark of Nickelodeon, but the show came to life prior to showing up on Nickelodeon and actually started on a local Canadian station in 1979. While the show ended in 1990, it continued in reruns until 1994 before disappearing from the airwaves for good. Thankfully filmmaker David Dillehunt took a trip back to the show that broke all the rules and made slime a household name in the documentary You Can't Do That On Film.

Much like any other documentary they take a journey back to take an inside look at the popular cult classic series and finally reveals some of the questions fans of the show have always had. While this film doesn't offer all that new in regards to footage, it does sit down with numerous cast members and crew to talk about the making of the series and how it affected them and their lives. There's nothing revolutionary here, but if you are a fan you are sure to find this bit of a nostalgic trip back to this great show. There are some pretty interesting tales about how this show came to be and the struggles it had on some level moving forward. In addition they take a trip back to the original set of the show as well as finally breaking the secret on how the mysterious ooze was created and how it came to be. In addition hearing them discuss some of how the production was put together is pretty engaging if you were a fan of the show. The film features a ton of the original cast members using both new interviews and archive footage to answer just about any question that most people could have had.

Obviously this is one of those documentaries that will only appeal to those that are real fans of the series and will make those people itch to watch the series all over again. In addition to the documentary this 2 disc DVD collection also includes rare and extended interviews, outtakes and behind the scenes, recaps of Slimecon 2002 and Slimecon 2004 cast reunion, official reunion episode Project 131 and more.
