When Scottish director Armando Iannucci launched VEEP on HBO five years ago, the satiric sitcom's take on insider D.C. was so spot on that its roots in a British predecessor show-TheThick of It-seemed hard to believe. VEEP immediately won over fans that were in on the joke-politicians and their staffers, lobbyists, journalists, and assorted political junkies. Others received it as a quirky, slightly transgressive view of a serious world, perhaps too cynical by half. Today it is hailed for its prescience, verisimilitude, and glaringly non-partisan takedown of our entire political landscape. In VEEP, there are no heroes and no identifiable political parties. Everyone is a craven, hollow, opportunistic grifter, seeking power for his or her own petty ego needs. It is a rare show blessed at its center with a perfectly cast comedic national treasure, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and a chemically volatile ensemble to propel her through the once-unlikely plot twists each week. VEEP is a workplace comedy that not only captures the zeitgeist of the moment but transcends its own form to deliver a sobering message, with sharp dialogue, street savvy-and lots of laughs. If Selina Meyer can't be president, she can at least win a Peabody Award.

VEEP exits the highest office of television comedy with an unimpeachable legacy - a brilliant, biting political satire and a maze of funhouse mirrors for today's fractured politics. This tonic for our times is administered in rapid doses by an impeccable ensemble led by America's first lady of comedy, the incomparable Julia Louis-Dreyfus. - 2017 Winner AFI Award
- TV Program of the Year
VEEP proves the power of comedy to parody - and even predict - an American political system in pieces. This consistently incisive satire inspires laughter amidst the horror on both sides of the aisle - remaining urgently relevant and utterly essential to unite a nation in the common belief that America is stronger in stitches. Hail to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the leader of a free world of wonderful talent who never fail to find the funny in the halls of perceived power. - 2014 Winner AFI Award
- TV Program of the Year
VEEP is second to none in today's television comedies. Armando Iannucci's satiric eye peers into the office of the Vice President - embodied by the hilariously deadpan Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her oafish entourage of snakes and sycophants. This incisive indictment of government dysfunction finds humor in bureaucratic bad behavior - a political reality that's so painfully funny because it might just be true.
