"Blaubeerblau" is a German television film from five years ago. It runs for under 90 minutes and deals with the difficult subject of hospice care. Or does it really? Actually, the film fives more focus to the relationships outside the hospice when it comes to the protagonist. This is quite a shame as Stipe Erceg is easily the MVP in this film and he could have been a great core component for a convincing movie about this issue, but it all didn't work out. The script is shallow and offers not much real insight in terms of the characters and some of the actors are pretty bad. I am especially talking about the main character's mother. But also Devid Striesow was surprisingly bad and sometimes downright wooden, which I found fairly shocking as I know him mostly as a decent actor. This really hurt the film as it was all about emotion and the forced (un-)happy ending felt pretty fake as a consequence. It was as if the writer wanted to make up for all the bad in these last 15 minutes, but obviously it is not working out and it just feels more desperate. As a whole, this film has no redeeming qualities apart from Erceg's performance perhaps. That is why I give it a thumbs down and do not recommend the watch. Oh yeah and the title is so random too. Could have taken right out of a Til Schweiger or Schweighöfer movie, even if Schweiger's works are probably superior compared to this one here.
