One of the casting assistants reported he was acting strangely and thought he was a homeless, as many homeless people live in the part of the city where the audition was. He auditioned for the character of Mendez, having had only ten minutes to read the size, but the director was so stunned by his performance that he immediately asked Juan to play the lead. In the following days Juan worked with Daniele closely to improve the script.
The slap that Meredith (Kate) gives Rocky (Marlo) in the motel scene is actually real. It wasn't supposed to be real, but it happened at the second take because Kate was deeply in her character. The fact surprised the crew, who stand stood in silence after the cut, looking at the furious expression on Marlo Franson's face. However, after a few seconds Marlo started to smile for the relief of everybody, director and Kate Craven in particular.
