"C'mon girl, kick your feet!" Disney has revealed an official trailer for their summer movie Young Woman and the Sea, based on the true story of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. It's set to open at the end of May and we've been waiting to finally see a trailer. "21 miles and a nice day for a swim." Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, an American woman who grew up in Manhattan and learned to swim in New Jersey. After winning a gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, she eventually made the incredible English Channel swim from France to England in 1926 at the age of 20. This also co-stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. It's directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), adapted from Glenn Stout's book,...

You know what I miss? Disney's inspirational true story dramas and sports movies. As easy and often valid as it is to poke holes in their predictable narrative structures and complain about them reducing even the most unbelievable real-life events to a cookie-cutter formula, we could do with some earnest, uplifting pictures about marginalized people defying the odds to realize their dreams right about now. We got some pretty good -- not to mention culturally sensitive -- ones in the '10s, too, including "McFarland, USA" and "Queen of Katwe." Sadly, however, modest to disappointing box office returns have since led to those types of offerings being relegated to streaming only (see also: the underappreciated Willem Dafoe adventure film "Togo").
That was also the original plan for "Young Woman and the Sea," a biographical swimming drama anchored (no pun intended) by none other than Rey Skywalker herself, Daisy Ridley. Luckily,...

It’s going to take a live action version of “Moana” a little longer to swim to shore than Disney first expected. The film, originally slated to open in 2025, has been pushed back to July 10, 2026.
That news came as part of a deluge of Disney release date announcements and shifting debuts. The studio revealed that its upcoming “Star Wars” movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” as well as “Toy Story 5,” will hit theaters in 2026, giving Disney a formidable collection of potential blockbusters.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a cinematic spinoff of the hit Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” will open May 22, 2026, while “Toy Story 5” will debut June 19, 2026. It signals that Disney is getting serious about reinvigorating its big-screen “Star Wars” franchise after mostly focusing on streaming shows like “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Its last major film release was 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which was...

For every Prey or Blade Runner 2049 there are a dozen uninspired retreads of beloved old sci-fi franchises. So a Matrix reboot may not be the best news
Somewhere over the digital horizon, down the rabbit hole and straight on til morning, a new Matrix episode is brewing. After handing us three deeply average (at best) sequels to the majestic original 1999 film, studio Warner Bros has decided to hand the keys of the Nebuchadnezzar to Drew Goddard, whose writing credits include The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods, and Cloverfield. It’s probably a good idea, because the series’ creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, have clearly run out of ideas if 2021’s completely superfluous The Matrix Resurrections is anything to go by.
Resurrections joined the ranks of belated sequels to science fiction and fantasy totems that never quite live up to the standards of the original, yet somehow still keep coming.

It's been nearly seven years since Jack Sparrow graced the silver screen in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales." In the years since then, Disney has toyed with various versions of a sixth movie in the multi-billion-dollar franchise. Now, we have word from legendary producer Jarry Bruckheimer that the new movie, whatever it may be, will indeed be a reboot. So don't expect to see Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom back in the saddle.
Speaking with Comicbook.com in honor of his upcoming film "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," Bruckheimer was asked whether he believes we'll see "Top Gun 3" or "Pirates of the Caribbean 6" happen first. He didn't go into detail, but he did suggest that "Pirates" is looking to make a fresh start with the upcoming entry. Here's what he had to say about it:
"It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has recently shared future plans for the popular franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. The actor has embodied the character since the 2003 film and was last seen in his iconic role in the fifth installment of the franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales.

However, he was dropped from the franchise in 2018. While there have been rumors about his potential comeback, Bruckheimer’s recent declaration to reboot the franchise appears to dash hopes of Depp reprising his iconic role as Jack Sparrow.

After the announcement of Disney pushing through with Pirates of the Caribbean 6 despite Johnny Depp’s uncertain return to the franchise, an insider shared that the studio is considering having the actor in the upcoming movie. However, there’s one catch: it will be a supporting role.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
As Disney wants to restart the swashbuckling blockbuster, they intend to cast younger actors who will continue the legacy of the flagship franchise of the studio. This means that if Depp wants to join the project, he will only have a cameo appearance.

We are officially in a bold, new future, folks. No, I'm not talking about how it feels like we're just one misguided billionaire's whims away from actually entering the grid and ending up in some dystopian era where we're literally living through the plot of "Tron" and its follow-up, "Tron: Legacy." I'm referring to the fact that legacy sequels to legacy sequels are now in vogue and here to stay for good. But you can't argue with what the people want and what they want is as simple as it gets: more Daft Punk.
After years and years of viewers demanding a third movie in the "Tron" franchise, Disney is making that wish into a reality. It's been a little over a year since we first found out that the project had been officially green-lit and would proceed under the title "Tron: Ares." This post contains spoilers for Madame Web.
There are exactly two good things in Madame Web. No, it’s not the meme-worthy line about moms and Amazons, which doesn’t even appear in the movie. Neither is it all of the winks toward Peter Parker nor the young female Spider-heroes who (spoiler) have only two brief scenes in costume.
No, one good thing in Madame Web is the old-school Marvel logo that opens the film. The simple flipping of comics pages that dissolves into the big red block with the word “Marvel” in white font, before MCU movies replaced it with their busy fanfare.
The other good thing happens at the end of the movie. Or rather, it doesn’t happen. Because after Madame Web‘s closing scene, a very stupid looking close-up on Cass Web’s blank face, played by the ever-wooden Dakota Johnson, credits roll and that’s it.

Belated second sequel Tron: Ares is finally shooting, and it’s been announced that Gillian Anderson has joined the already starry cast.
Because it’s important not to rush these things, Disney has waited well over a decade to make a sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy. That film was itself a sequel to Tron, released in the dim-and-distant year of 1982.
Finally, though, filming appears to have gotten away over the past couple of days, with director Joachim Ronning (Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) posting a teasing image of a Tron 3 chair on the 20th January. It’s the sort of thing filmmakers often do when a film goes into production.

When Johnny Depp Blasted The Screenplay Of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Because It Was Not Up To The Mark! ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow is a perfect casting, and he has been playing the character for over a decade. He lost the role after his ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence, followed by the Hollywood A-Lister filing a defamation case against Heard. Recently, an alleged Pirates of the Caribbean 6 poster went viral featuring Depp, sparking speculations of his return to the Disney franchise.
Disney is known for keeping its image clean and tends to cut ties with actors and actresses with bad reputations. Hence, the company allegedly dropped him from the franchise when Depp landed in a defamation trial. There were reports that Margot Robbie would join the universe in a spin-off movie, but that remained inconclusive.

Hence, the company allegedly dropped him from the franchise when Depp landed in a defamation trial. There were reports that Margot Robbie would join the universe in a spin-off movie, but that remained inconclusive.

“White Lotus” star Theo James smoulders over a glass of liquor in the first images to emerge from Guy Ritchie’s upcoming series “The Gentlemen.”
Kaya Scodelario (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge”) and Vinnie Jones also star in the series, which is loosely based on Ritchie’s 2019 feature starring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Jeremy Strong and Michelle Dockery.

Jacob Elordi's résumé is impressive, given the actor's relatively short career. Born and raised in Brisbane, Australia, Elordi always knew he wanted to be an actor. According to a 2022 GQ cover story, he idolized actors like Marlon Brando and Heath Ledger, which sparked his interest in performing. At the age of 12, he started acting in school plays, and by the time he was 17, he landed his first film gig as an extra in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017), per Just Jared. The following year, he starred in "Swinging Safari" and Netflix's "The Kissing Booth," which launched him into stardom in an instant and opened many doors for him to star in other works, including the acclaimed HBO series by Sam Levinson, "Euphoria," which will return for a third season in 2025.

They may be rascals, and scoundrels, and villains, and knaves, but it’s impossible to say that pirates aren’t fun to watch — at least on screen. And of course, there is perhaps no pirate more famous in pop culture at this point than Jack Sparrow, the bumbling, drunken heart of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Known for never having a plan but somehow always ending up with one that works out, the unreasonably charming pirate was brought to life by Johnny Depp for five movies across nearly 15 years. In his journeys, he encountered the Kraken, Davy Jones, the Fountain of Youth, and even Poseidon’s trident.
But, if you’re here, you probably know all this. What you want to know is how to watch Sparrow and his pirate friends — including Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan — in all their swashbuckling glory.

With a new installment in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean series potentially on the horizon, the question of whether Johnny Depp will return still lingers.
The development of Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been in a state of limbo for years. The most recent film, 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was a significant flop on top of being panned by critics and fans.
Additionally, the franchise’s headliner, Johnny Depp, became something of a Hollywood pariah in recent years, in part due to his very public defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Tuesday would have been the first day of production on the sci-fi sequel “Tron: Ares,” but the film, like so much else in Hollywood, is now on hold indefinitely, said director Joachim Rønning lamented the “extremely frustrating” situation” on Tuesday.
“Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on Tron: Ares. Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone,” Rønning wrote on Instagram.
He continued, “The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA need to speed up the negotiating process and not leave the table until it’s done. This is Hollywood. We close deals for breakfast. Why do we suddenly have all the time in the world when every day is so precious? These tactics are extremely frustrating. It’s time for diplomacy so we can get back to work – under conditions that are fair to everybody.

Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning took to Instagram to give an update on the long-awaited sequel and express his frustration with the SAG-AFTRA strike, which has delayed the start of the Disney film.
The Norwegian director (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) revealed the production was supposed to begin filming this week and instead had to lay off 150 crew members. Rønning teased the film would have a storyline centered around AI (as have the two previous films, to varying extent). While supporting the goals of the work stoppage, he also urged both sides of the contract dispute to resolve their differences.

The top-earning film at the box office this weekend wasn’t “Barbie,” but rather “The Meg 2: The Trench.” The Warner Bros. Discovery/Cmc Pictures shark tale earned $142 million worldwide in its global debut, including a robust $53.3 million in China.
That opening weekend was already 11% higher than “Jurassic World Dominion,” 41% above “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and more than double “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.” It is also higher than the $50 million first weekend posted by “The Meg” in China back in August 2018.
It’s a big deal that “The Meg 2: The Trench” is performing anything like a pre-covid business-as-usual Hollywood tentpole. The key advantage might be old-fashioned star power.
The earlier Jason Statham/Li Bingbing-led actioner eventually earned $153 million of its $530 million total in the Middle Kingdom. If the sequel, which swaps Li for Wu Jing, legs out accordingly, we could see a $162 million Chinese total.

The Beatles are so famous they influenced a Pirates of the Caribbean film. The movie includes Paul McCartney singing a song from The Beatles’ Let It Be. Despite the scene’s accuracy to the time period, it feels like a cynical move from Disney.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards plays Jack Sparrow’s father. The latter film features an actual Beatles song — sort of. When Paul’s character is first introduced, we hear him sing a snippet of the folk tune “Maggie Mae.” The Beatles covered that folk tune on their final album,...

Evan Peters, the actor best known for his portrayal of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, has landed his next role opposite Jared Leto in Disney’s long-in-the-works Tron 3.
Helmed by veteran Disney director Joachim Rønning, the movie is titled Tron: Ares. Its script, written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne, is said to focus on “the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peters’ role in the film is currently unknown, though two of the main characters in the script are “a soldier in the computer world and an awkward gamer in the human world.” Leto is set to play Ares, the manifestation of the program.
Production on Tron: Ares is set to begin in Vancouver this August. It follows 2011’s Tron: Legacy, itself a long-gestating sequel to the original 1982 special effects pioneer Tron.

Evan Peters, who starred as Quicksilver in Fox’s “X-Men” prequel series and earned acclaim playing Jeffrey Dahmer in Ryan Murphy’s blockbuster “Monster” Netflix miniseries, has joined the cast of Disney’s long-gestating “Tron: Ares,” an individual with knowledge told TheWrap on Wednesday.
Peters will star alongside Jared Leto in the sci-fi threequel helmed by Joachim Rønning, which will hopefully begin shooting in August in Vancouver. Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer and Leto are producing. Russell Allen is executive producing.
The Walt Disney Company has been trying to make a follow-up to “Tron: Legacy” for over a decade. The first “Tron,” which earned two Academy Award nominations — but none for its then-groundbreaking special effects — earned just $50 million worldwide on a $17 million budget. That was seen as a disappointment in 1982 but built enough of a cult audience for Disney to roll the dice in 2010 with the $170 million budgeted “Tron: Legacy.”

Mackay made his feature film debut in Guillermo del Toro’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) starring alongside Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce. In the remake of the 1973 TV movie of the same name, a family moves to Rhode Island where the patriarch Alex Hurst (Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) are restoring a 19th-century mansion. Alex’s daughter Sally (Bailee Madison) discovers a hidden, long-undisturbed basement and unwittingly unleashes a race of dark-dwelling creatures. Mackay portrayed the librarian.
In the 2015 film The Dressmaker, Mackay starred as William Beaumont working opposite Kate Winslet and Sarah Snook. Rob Marshall’s “The Little Mermaid,” starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, began its domestic box office laps with a rousing $10.3 million in Thursday previews. While lower than the $23 million earned by “The Lion King” and the $16.3 million earned by “Beauty and the Beast” in their respective Thursday preview debuts, it compares favorably to “Aladdin,” which grossed $7 million and went on to earn $116 million in its Friday–Monday Memorial Day opening weekend.
The picture has earned decent reviews (68% fresh and 6.4/10 on Rotten Tomatoes) amid a marketplace lacking youth-skewing biggies since “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in early April. Along with obvious IP appeal at play, hopes are high that this under-the-sea fantasy has legs.
Hyperbolic math alert, but similar sea legs to “Aladdin” would give “The Little Mermaid” a huge $173 million Friday–Monday launch,...

Johnny Depp has played Cannes many times, with four of his films in Competition: “Dead Man” and “Ed Wood” (both 1995), “The Brave,” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” (1998), but he’s never had this much at stake on the Croisette. As the randy King Louis Xv, powdered and wigged in the opening-night Out of Competition selection “Jeanne du Barry,” Depp will begin his latest effort at career rehab.
Depp, who will be 60 in a few weeks, is well past his movie-star prime and remains in recovery from a string of court cases. Depp lost his “wife-beater” U.K. libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2020, but last June he won $10 million in compensatory damages in a U.S. court. Warner Bros. paid his $16 million fee for the third “Fantastic Beasts” film, but asked him to resign from playing the role of Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise. (Mads Mikkelsen replaced him.

Though there's historically been a lot hype attached to giant opening weekends for movies, the past year or so has been a lesson in the importance of being leggy. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the latest case study; with an opening weekend of $118.4 million and a steep $250 million production budget, it was initially uncertain whether or not the closing chapter of James Gunn's trilogy was going to break even during its theatrical run. But between an outstanding second weekend hold and strong performance overseas, the third "Guardians" movie has shot past the milestone of $500 million worldwide after just 10 days in theaters.
More specifically, Variety reports that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" has grossed $528 million so far, comprised of $213 million in North American ticket sales and $315 million internationally. The overseas box office is led by China, where it has so far grossed $58.4 million (per Box Office Pro...

After taking a shellacking from fans disappointed over the quality of many recent films, Marvel Studios and Disney are once again enjoying a critical and box office superhero hit with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which earned a $118 million domestic and $289 million global opening weekend.
More importantly, audiences are praising the film with opening crowds giving the film 5 stars on PostTrak and an A on CinemaScore. Four of the last six Marvel Cinematic Universe films, including the box office duds “Eternals” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” have received a B or B+ on CinemaScore. All but one of the previous 25 MCU releases had earned an A- or better.
These are just a few of several signs of good news for both Marvel and the box office, but this weekend’s success isn’t a cure for all of Marvel’s problems. Let’s go deeper into the good...

According to scooper Daniel Richtman via his Patreon, Cillian Murphy is set to reprise his Tron: Legacy role in the upcoming Tron: Ares as the villain. You should consider this to be a rumor for the time being, but Richtman does have a pretty good track record with these scoops.
If it’s been a while since you last watched Tron: Legacy, you might not even remember that Cillian Murphy was in it. He played Edward Dillinger Jr., the head of Encom’s software design team and the son of former Encom senior executive Ed Dillinger, the character played by David Warner in the original Tron. The role was more of a cameo, but felt like it was setting the stage for something bigger in the next movie.
