A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the Mafia.
The opening hair combover and hairpiece gluing sequence was not in the early script, but was an idea of Lead Hairstylist Kathrine Gordon. David O. Russell liked the idea that it was incorporated later into the script. Gordon and Christian Bale rehearsed several days before filming the scene.
