This show is a hidden gem that I came across by accident on prime. The title didn't sound appealing but after only a few episodes the characters grew on me and I couldn't get enough of them. This show is mostly fun, not exactly the laugh out loud type (how many of those are there?) but there were quite a few funny ones. If nothing else it's bound to entertain. Comedy tastes vary but give a try.

I'd give it a ten, but it's still finding it's legs. But it has the possibility of becoming a great show. The writing is superb and the acting is getting better in every episode. The cast is fun, especially the women. I'm rooting for it to succeed, I hope the network gives them enough of a chance. Kristen Johnston was great in 3rd Rock, and she's great in this. I was hoping Donald Faison would reappear in something fun, and he has. Kelly stables, as 6" Holly's 4"10' assistant is great. The other two guy characters are so far, just kind of annoying. No fault of the actors, I just think maybe that boring men are difficult characters to play without making them annoying. Overall I like the show and find myself laughing out loud. If I had one suggestion, it would be that they could use another character or two.
  • "The Exes" is great addition to TVLand's comedy show list. It is the second best sitcom they have had since their hit "Hot in Cleveland." It may not be completely original; the main characters live across the hall from each other, reminiscent of the hit show "Friends", but these characters were brought together by Holly (Kristen Johnston), a divorce lawyer. She brought the three male characters together, Haskell (Wayne Knight), Phil (Donald Faison), and Stuart (David Alan Basche), when she introduced them after representing them in their divorces. She rents them the apartment across the hall from her. Holly's assistant, Eden (Kelly Stables) even lived with her for a short period of time.

The actors were well brought together from shows we used to watch. Kristen Johnston from "3rd Rock From the Sun", Kelly Stables from "Two and a Half Men", Dwayne Knight from "Seinfeld", Donald Faison from "Scrubs", David Alan Basche less known from "The Starter Wife".

The plots are pretty simple, they relate to divorce and dating, and poke fun at the stereotypical roles the characters play. Viewers may start the show thinking, "I wish I had a life like that," to finishing the show with a laugh and thinking, "I'm glad my life isn't that way." Holly was career driven as a young woman, and has a successful career, but is unsuccessful in her love life as a middle-aged woman. Eden is a pint-sized, care-free single young woman having fun. Phil is the playboy of the group, always with a different woman, and as much fun as he is having, he started having feelings for Eden. Haskell is a lazy, overweight middle-aged man, who spends much of his time on his laptop. He is the funny guy of the group and is outgoing, but never gets a lady. Stuart is the touchy-feely one of the group. He's a dentist and is very proud of this small practice. He isn't completely over his ex, but with the help of the guys is trying to get into dating.

Overall, this is a simple comedy that brought a few good actors we knew from previous sitcoms together in an attempt to get a few laughs out of its viewers.
  • The show is pretty good. The writing is very hit or miss. Some episodes are incredibly well written and others are a little weak which means the cast has to carry the script. A great comedic actor can make the most mundane jokes funny and that's what Leah Remini has brought to this show. She's a tremendous addition to an already strong cast. Her comedic timing and delivery is exceptional. If anything, the show's writing (and maybe direction?) hinders her and the rest of the cast. That being said, I'm gaining a tremendous amount of respect for her as a comedian and an actress and I'd love to see more of her on this show! I'd love to see a few episodes where Remini and Johnston take the lead in steering a plot... I get an awesome Lucy & Ethel vibe from them. Pair those two up in zany exploits and hilarity will most certainly ensue!

I won't necessarily write that this show is anything like Friends (let's be honest, what is?) or How I met Your Mother but still it has the comedy down. Kristen Johnson certainly carries most of the comedic element of this show.

The Acting however could use to tone down a bit. There were scenes which gave goosebumps out of pure overacting.

The writing needs a bit of work as well. Some lines were too cartoonish and too far off reality.

But otherwise, if you want a good time and feel good after a hard day's work then this shows is good!
  • One of the best sitcoms out there. It's actual scripted television with multiple cameras and talented actors, filmed in front of a live studio audience. Kristen Johnston leads a brilliant and hysterical ensemble cast. The adorable Kelly Stables (2 1/2 Men) is the 4' 11" assistant Eden, to Kristen's 6 ft Holly. The sight gags here alone are almost worth the price of admission. Kristen plays a divorce attorney who opens her second apartment to 3 ex-clients and proceeds to mother hen them, while having love life difficulties of her own. She's reunited with Wayne Knight, her 3rd Rock from the Sun love interest (best known as Newman from Seinfeld). Donald Faison (Scrubs) as the resident 'player' and David Bascher as the third of the three EXES. Their chemistry gets better with every episode and the writing is top notch. One of the few shows I watch the same night it airs.
  • With so many reality shows shoved in our face, and the few comedy shows out there that are so lame, and not worth the time watching, it's refreshing to finally watch a comedy show that delivers hilarity. I actually can't believe how funny "The Exes" is. Note: the first episode is not so good as it's just introducing the watcher to the premise, but once you get past it, it's non-stop laughter. Kudos to the writers. As for the actors, each one chosen well for each part. I thought the first season was great and couldn't do any better. Totally wrong. Second season rocked even more. There were times I had to pause the show as I couldn't stop laughing. Love the show and can't wait for the third season.

Laugh tracks are a thing of the past that should remain there. The creator, Mark Reisman, was responsible for producing such shows as Frasier and Wings, were most of the humour in this show seems to come from that 90's era.

Not even Turk from Scrubs, Newman from Seinfeld and Sally from 3rd Rock could save this. Just barely made it through one episode. Might be a good show to watch while doing housework?!
  • Found this on Paramount + laughed through every episode. Amazing cast and great comedic writing. We need more like this. If you like shows like Mom, The Big Bang theory and so on them you'll love THE EXES.
  • I rarely give up on a sitcom so quickly but this one was terrible and doesnt need much to review it.

The jokes are your standard setup, payoff, wait around for canned laughter, repeat. Except the setups are are lame, the payoffs are terrible, and I am sick of canned laughter. That should have died in the late 90's but the networks just cant seem to kill it. None of the characters are funny. They all feel like they were generated by a computer algorithm that was lazily programmed. The plots are non-existent and wouldnt lend themselves to humor even if they did exist. Most of the actors here have been in much better comedies and should have known this would stink. I guess they needed paychecks more than exposure. The only element that has any potential is the friendship between the giant blonde and the tiny blonde, and they completely waste it. You'd be better off rewatching a show you love than anything The Exes has to offer.
  • I watched a few episodes when the show first started. I enjoyed the show but something just didn't click. I'm a big fan of Leah Remini from when I watched the King of Queens, another show that I love. Anyway, when I saw the advertisement that Leah Remini was going to be on the show I just had to give The Exes another try. I'm so glad that I did! I've laughed out loud! Seriously, I will keep watching as long as Leah Remini/Nikki is on the show. To me, she was just what the show needed. I'm looking forward to the new season. I just hope Leah Remini/Nikki will be a permanent character on the show.

The Exes are growing on me! Lol

    Warning: Spoilers
I thought that this show would be kind of slow but it is above average. The three divorced guys renting their attorneys extra apartment just across the hall makes for some interesting interaction. There is the womanizing horn dog, the wanna be player, and the namby pamby dentist. I guess the attorney Holly is pretty good at law. The boys all seem to have enough money to do most anything they want to. This show is about all four of the main characters trying to find love again. It just doesn't come across to often. And then there is Kelly Stables, the impish, party to the max girl as Holly's assistant. She is a treat as a female horn dog.
  • I initially didn't know what to expect from this series, but from the Pilot episode on, I was hooked. Granted, there are some points that give off the all too familiar "Friends" vibe, but I reckon that is rooted in the fact, that Friends was THE sitcom to watch for a decade. I would think, that The Exes, has the same potential. The characters are lovable and easily understood. (Mostly) employed and not sitting hours on end in a coffee house, while trying to figure out how to pay for their coffees. Personally, I love the premise of the strong, successful career woman showing compassion and kindness towards her "ex" clients, and them reciprocating. It's very grown-up. It's not tedious to watch unlike some shows, and the characters harmonize quite well, despite their quirks and flaws.

I can't wait for a couple of more seasons!!! I am intrigued how much the Wedding might have changed or empowered Holly. :-)
  • This coming from a bloke but this show is as sexist as it gets. I've watched 6 episodes and all the women in the show are either dumb, hooker, extremely easy and/or constantly talking about men or drooling when they see one. I know thats the premise of the show but its done in such a none clever way that its not even remotely funny. If the show was done in the 80's maybe it would've been ok (or funny) but this thing is barely 10 years old. I know the show eventually got cancelled but it went on for 4 seasons, when I think about so many good shows that got cancelled after just one season bcoz they weren't cheap humour for pleasing the 'basic people' out there it makes me even more disspointed.

    Warning: Spoilers
Holly Franklin-very funny,as usually even when she doesn't speak! Haskell-he was funny in Seinfeld and he is funny here! Eden-funny Stuart and Phil, not only they're not funny at all,it's annoying to watch them so every time they have a scene i have to scroll forward...and now they also added that annoying sister of his...Almost every comedy(lately) they have the same theme"singles-midlife-and always looking for someone and talk talk talking about sex, over and over again with the endless jokes about sex...I don't know how much this show will last but i can see how they get bored with each episode that appears and please make more scenes with Holly and Haskell and even Eden, but leave those 2 non-funny characters at home.
  • Only thing working for this show is Johnson. The little chick can't act. The guys are all boring. And I gotta tell ya,adding Leah to the cast till johnson comes back is a big mistake.Gonna lose a million viewers.I love King of Queens.. to see Kevin James, Jerry Stiller....Leah sucks as an actress. I don't know what it is lately, but since hot in cleveland, happily divorced, the ex's,suits, white collar, shows along those lines seem to have a LOT of overacting in them. They all pretty much suck. I think the "actors" need to retire themselves. They aren't funny anymore.Bertinelli makes me want to throw up. I can't stand her.Reality shows also suck since the people are TOLD what to do.I liked Duck Dynasty thinking they were acting themselves till I found out they have to be told what the producers want. They all chew and they aren't allowed to on the show, besides other characteristics. So what I'm trying to say is... TV has gotten worse and it is really a useless tool to kill time. That's what the government wants you to do. Be so called entertained so we don't think of what's really going on in the country.
  • I can't believe that "The Exes" make it to the 4th season! I don't mean that this is a bad comedy. It's OK-ish. But the networks have canceled faaar more interesting and funny comedies out there.

Anyway. This is a painless "roommates" kind of comedy. 3 men who recently divorced are forced to live under the same roof and across the apartment of the female lawyer who helped them. Obviously the 3 men have totally different personalities and as I remember there were some conflicts in the 1st season but I guess there are more like a family now.

The leads are not too charismatic. Second class more like it.

Most of the jokes are dating related. To tell you the truth I'm kind of bored by the "I am the man and I have a hot date" kind of jokes and the semi-funny pickup lines in a bar.

Another thing that always bothers me in these sitcoms is the fake laughing track which unfortunately is present in this show too.

Overall: It's not a bad series but I hardly think that it is worth the time to watch it regularly.

One of my favourite tv shows. Super fun. I feel so bad that they stoped it and I wonder why..

I find this 'show' amusing but in my opinion there is a little too much acting with a forced laughs in the background. With all due respect to a lady I think that a leading female role was a miscast; In my opinion most other ladies who appeared would do a better job.
