Austin, TX – The Red Carpet traditions at SXSW take on a different intensity, and the cast and production crew of “Magic City: An American Fantasy” walked the walk on March 12th, 2024. The documentary series is about a famous strip club in Atlanta that became a hangout for celebrities. One of the narrators in the doc is Atlanta’s own Killer Mike, and he was there.
In 1985, phone salesman Michael Barney — friends call him Mr. Magic — puts his slick-talking gift to work, opening a small strip club in Atlanta. He plays DJ, bartender, and bouncer while his only dancer separates men from their money. But soon, the celebrities arrive. Athletes from Michael Jordan to Shaquille O’Neal clamber to the club, DC The Brain Supreme mints an iconic hit record from the DJ booth, and Outkast tests songs by watching the girls dance.

New Drake-produced doscuseries “Magic City: An American Fantasy” debuted at SXSW Monday night to a roaring crowd packed with friends, patrons and fans of the project’s titular iconic Atlanta strip club, Magic City.
After the first episode of the three-part doc, which does not yet have a distributor or platform attached, was screened, producer Cole Brown and director Charles Todd fielded a few questions from the audience, including “Was there anything too explicit to put in the documentary?”
“We wanted to walk a fine line with nudity, in particular — where you can’t make a documentary about a strip club and not have any nudity, it just isn’t true to form — and you’re trying to tell the true story,” Brown said. “At the same time, we didn’t want it to be salacious, gratuitous. Netflix has a lot of content on its virtual shelves, but it’s missing something so huge that it’s almost shocking.
They have no original medical drama for their subscribers.
Pulse will change all that.
Netflix announced today that Carlton Cuse and Zoe Robyn will team up for the new show, which already has its first star attached.
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3: Everything We Know
Justina Machado is the first person to join the cast as a series regular.
This isn’t Netflix’s first foray into the procedural space, although their procedurals tend to have season-long arcs.
The Lincoln Lawyer, The Diplomat, and The Night Agent all have touches of procedural dramas in them, even if they don’t focus on episodes of the week.
Whether Pulse falls more in line with what we know as procedural content or not remains to be seen.

Among the chrome skyscrapers and beckoning show lights in Downtown Miami stands The Freedom Tower, a government building with a distinctive Mediterranean flair that processed Cuban refugees who fled the nearby Caribbean nation to pass the time between Fidel Castro and democracy.
Cuban-born actor Yul Vázquez was one of those thousands of exiles who found themselves in that immigrant wave’s Ellis Island, waiting for rations of powdered milk, cans of Spam and surplus eggs, holding his mother’s hand next to his sister.

Exclusive: Black Widow cinematographer Gabriel Beristain has signed on to direct adaptations of the books Brooklyn Story and 11 Days in Hell, which were recently acquired by Wallner Media.
The former project is a film, which Suzanne Corso adapted from her best-selling novel of the same name. The latter is a TV series, based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William T. Harper. Beristain will direct all 11 episodes, scripted by Bruce and Brett Moore.
The first novel in a trilogy, Brooklyn Story is set in the summer of 1978. It centers on Samantha Bonti, who is fifteen years old, half Jewish and half Italian, and hesitantly edging toward pure Brooklyn, even if her dreams of something more are bigger than the neighborhood girls’ teased hair. Samantha lives in Bensonhurst with her mother, Joan, a woman abandoned and scarred in a ruinous marriage, poisoned with cynicism, and shackled by addictions,...

When an actor is accused of wrongdoing and the film or TV project is already under way — or even wrapped — sometimes directors and producers go back and reshoot their scenes with a recast replacement.
“All the Money in the World”
After Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual misconduct, director Ridley Scott went back into production on “All the Money in the World” and reshot all of the actor’s scenes, this time with Christopher Plummer playing billionaire J. Paul Getty. (Plummer received an Oscar nomination for the role.)

BBC had already shot a new adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic with “Gossip Girl” alum Ed Westwick as the rough-around-the-edges son of a wealthy family. But after Westwick faced accusations of sexual misconduct, the network went back and re-shot the limited series with “Magic City” alum Christian Cooke recast in the role.

Magic City Films said Wednesday that it has secured rights from the family of Oscar-nominated actor James Dean to use a CGI version of the actor to play a role in its upcoming Vietnam War action drama Finding Jack. Pre-production starts later this month.
The news has piqued the interest of Twitter, where Dean is trending — more than 60 years after the young star was killed in 1955 in a car crash at age 24. Most of the reaction to the “casting” has been negative.
“I’m sure he’d be thrilled,” actor Chris Evans tweeted after the news broke this morning. “This is awful. Maybe we can get a computer to paint us a new Picasso. Or write a couple new John Lennon tunes. The complete lack of understanding here is shameful.”

Revenge alum Elena Satine is set for a key recurring role opposite Rupert Friend, Jack Reynor and Bella Heathcote in Strange Angel, CBS All Access’ upcoming original drama series from Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and CBS TV Studios.
Created by Mark Heyman based on George Pendle’s book of the same name, 1930s-set Strange Angel is inspired by the real-life story of Jack Parsons (Reynor) and explores the dramatic intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction.
