Look I for one love Taylor, Sheridan, and his writing. I have watched his stuff for years and followed it from the beginning. I liked Yellowstone a lot and have continued to like the 1883 series as well as the 1923 series, but that being said 1923 can be a frustrating watch.
The pacing if off, and often dragging out certain storylines to the point of exhaustion. Spencer's arc, in particular, feels like it's moving at a snail's pace, making his journey home more of an endurance test for the audience than an engaging subplot. It's as if the show runners are determined to throw every possible obstacle in his way just to extend the suspense-when in reality, he just needs to get home already.
Another issue is the sheer amount of unrealistic hardship the Dutton family faces. Yes, it's a Western drama, but at some point, it almost feels excessive-as if the writers sat down and asked, "How much more suffering can we pile on?" Elizabeth, while part of the family's struggle, comes across as a spoiled brat, making it difficult to feel much sympathy for her.
Look, I understand it's a hard time to be suffering and a difficult time to be living, but this also needs to be a show that is pasted well enough to keep the audience engaged and I am getting bored and I would like to see something good happen. For hell sake's let's just get some revenge already, and move onto a different storyline. I wanna like the show, but I find myself consistently being frustrated by it.

- TriviaThe Depression of 1920-1921 began in Montana in 1918 and continued longer. Between drought and the reduced demand for agricultural products, due to the end of the "Great War" (aka First World War, from 1914 to 1918), many farmers suffered greatly. As a result, Montana farmers would default on wartime loans which lead to widespread bank failure throughout the state. Between 1921-1925, half of the farmers in Montana lost their land. By 1925, 70,000 of the 82,000 homesteaders in Montana left. In addition, 200 banks in Montana failed. Not only were crops affected by the drought, it was followed by locusts infestation and cattle succumbing to contagion.
