Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series 1923 is slated to return with its second season next month. It follows the story of Spencer Dutton as he must race back to his home in Bozeman, Montana, while his ancestral land and family’s lives are threatened. The first season ended on a major cliffhanger and upped the stakes with the Dutton family’s very existence at risk.

As a result, when the sophomore outing arrives, fans must be expecting several characters to bite the dust given just how high the stakes are. While some characters are more likely to die than others, Sheridan could throw in a major twist by killing off one fan-favorite character who might just be more integral to the overall Dutton family saga than meets the eye.

“Yellowstone” may be over, but it’s legacy is carrying on. MTV Entertainment Studios, iHeartPodcasts and 101 Studios are moving forward with a new “Yellowstone” podcast, which will premiere its first episode on Jan. 23.

There will be eight episodes in the “Yellowstone Official Podcast” hosted by iHeartMedia’s Bobby Bones. The series consists of weekly deep dives into key episodes and behind-the-scenes stories as Bones explores the cast, characters, landscape and crew that brought the TV phenomenon to life. Wendy Moniz, who portrays Senator Lynelle Perry on the series, will be its first guest.

The podcast will be available on the iHeartRadio app as well as all other major listening platforms.

“I’ve been such a fan of ‘Yellowstone’ from the start. I’m excited to jump in and work with them at a deeper level to give insight for other fans of the show,” Bones said in a statement to press.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone aired its series finale late last year without its lead star Kevin Costner. However, the story of the Duttons is far from over as several spinoffs seem to be in the works. While Sheridan was seemingly busy with his next Western Landman, he also reportedly worked on season 2 of the prequel series 1923, which is set to air in February.

The first season of the Harrison Ford starrer ended with the tease of an oncoming war on the Duttons’ ranch. Several deaths have been predicted by fans, including some major characters that have become fan favorites. This data came from VideoAmp instead of Nielsen as Paramount Global and Nielsen are in the midst of a contract dispute. It includes the episode’s premieres on Paramount Network and CMT.

Overall, the second half of Season 5 was the most-watched season in the history of “Yellowstone,” securing 13.6 million viewers, including all cable premiere broadcasts as well as the first episode’s CBS broadcast. The audience for “Landman” is only getting bigger. The Taylor Sheridan drama starring Billy Bob Thornton was seen by 14.9 million households globally in its first four weeks, according to internal metrics for Paramount+.

This number cements “Landman” as the most-watched Paramount+ original of all time. MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, which are behind the series, are now responsible for the five most-watched originals on the streamer. While “Landman” takes the first place spot, it’s followed by “1923,” “Tulsa King,” “Lioness” and “1883.” All five of these dramas come from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, and two of them are set in the “Yellowstone” universe.

It was already known that “Landman” was performing well. The series’ premiere drew in 5.2 million viewers, making it the biggest Paramount+ premiere in two years.

Michelle Randolph is now a veteran of the Taylor Sheridan-verse.

The young actress first appeared in “1923,” the phenomenally popular “Yellowstone” prequel that premiered back in 2022. The series is still all over the place, and other than introducing a new generation of Duttons just to introduce them, it feels aimless and unsure of its direction.

It’s possible there are too many characters and diverse plots for 1923 to be a success.
