Walt Longmire is the dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Widowed only a year, he is a man in psychic repair but buries his pain behind his brave face, unassuming grin and dry wit.
A&E canceled the show after the third season. A few months later Netflix picked it up for its fourth season.
Throughout the series, Walt never has more than three deputies, giving his department a total of four sworn officers. In later seasons he only had two deputies. Even in a small rural county it would take more staffing than that to provide 24 hour coverage. This error is compounded when every deputy on duty accompanies Walt on the case of the week, meaning there is no coverage for the remainder of the county.
