Season 1 - Brilliant, Season 2 - Not so Brilliant
I watched each season of this show in a day long sitting after each was released 12 months apart.
Season 1 is easily a 10/10, it really hooked me in, so much that I had to complete it in one sitting going into the morning of the next day.
Season 2 gets an 8/10, while still a superb show to watch, for me it doesn't quite posses the same qualitative impact as the first season. This could have been because the shock value of the first season has worn off or due to the long delay between seasons.
I would strongly recommend re-watching the first season before watching the second season. Much of the second season refers to the first season, so having a fresh memory of the first season makes for a much better viewing experience in the second season.
In my opinion this show is not over the top and unrealistic, I am still young enough to remember my school days and high school in particular. This is not as unrealistic as some reviewers have commented. Bullying happens everyday in many forms and girls did get raped and it was sometimes swept under the carpet by school administrations.
Parents are often ignorant to what happens to their children and not all of it is their fault. Teenagers just do not always want to tell their parents what is going on in their lives, no matter how hard the parents want to be there for them in difficult times. This is an unfortunate truth that parents and society have to face.
The season 2 ending leaves open the door for a season 3, and personally I am not sure if I am happy with that or not. Time will tell.
