A Hong Kong and Thailand co-production with a sad personal footnote
It opens with a man on horseback, a decapitated head, and Sek Kin looks concerned. Messengers bring him bad news. His home comes under attack by dozens of hooded swordsmen. The first fight is a brawl. It is done well because rather than long shots of the gang fight most shots are of specific characters and their focus and power is good. Sek does not fight much though in this first fight. Mitr saves the girl, I suspect Sek's daughter, and escapes with her. The bad guys have followed Mitr and Tien Yeh too. The two talk then fight. This fight was just bouncing around with Mitr fleeing.

Mitr Chaibancha was born in poverty in Thailand. At eight years old he started Thai boxing and eventually won three titles. After college he trained as a pilot in the That Air Force. By luck of a photograph in the right hands he got into the movies. Perhaps that really was not luck because he died filming a movie. On the last day of shooting "Insee thong" he grabbed a rope ladder as a helicopter took off. Unknown to the pilot he never had a proper grip on the ladder and fell off after the helicopter flew higher. In this movie he was replaced by a look alike to complete filming.

This movie drew my attention because of Sek Kin. I am on a mission to watch every martial arts movie from the golden age of 1967 to 1984. Regardless of the year, Sek Kin was one of the top martial arts actors of all time. Every time I think of the fact that he fought Bruce Lee in "Enter the Dragon" at age 60 I pause in respect. The grand master of all martial arts movies, Liu Chia-Liang, is listed as action director.

My copy is a computer file that plays as widescreen on my HDTV. The dialog is Thai and there are no subtitles. I do not speak Thai. Even if I did, the sound track soon became totally out of synch with the video so I had to watch it muted for most of the movie anyway.

The biggest fights were extended sequences between Tien Yeh and Mitr Chaibancha. There was too much jumping around and wirework that added nothing to this fight that was otherwise good.

Overall this movie is suitable only for hard core fans or curiosity seekers regarding Mitr Chaibancha and I rate it only average for the year and genre.
