A never-ending debate in the anime community revolves around determining the best new-gen anime manga series. Due to the vast number of fans, there are many different opinions. However, many viewers believe Kohei Horikoshi’s magnum opus, My Hero Academia, is a good contender for the title. I mean, just look at the story; why wouldn’t they think this way?
All Might from season 2
One of the most widely known figures in the franchise is the world’s former number-one hero, All Might. However, one question that fans always ponder is: despite All Might’s persona bearing a striking resemblance to that of an American hero and his use of attacks named after American cities such as Detroit Smash, why does he have a Japanese identity?
The question reached Kohei Horikoshi, who addressed it in an interview during San Diego Comic-Con in 2018, explaining that it wouldn’t have felt...

You might often feel like you’re already living through an apocalyptic nightmare, but I assure you that E.L. Katz’s new culty survival horror Azrael is way weirder and more wild than anything you’re doomscrolling through late at night. Written by Simon Barrett, and starring genre badass Samara Weaving (Ready or Not), Azrael is a blood-soaked and buck wild revenge tale set in a fractured world. It’s got everything you could ask for in a post-apocalyptic horror flick. It’s got cults, it’s got shotguns, it’s got seething anger, and (best of all) it’s got weird hellscape creatures lurking in the forest that rip people to shreds...

Plot: Infected by the bite of a werewolf, a man sets out to bring down a shady businessman before arranging the end of his own life.
Review: Larry Fessenden has over 100 acting credits to his name, and if you’ve been following the horror genre over the last few decades there’s a good chance you’ve seen him show up in something, whether it be a Ti West movie, Stake Land, Late Phases, You’re Next, or the movie I first noticed him in, Session 9. He’s also a prolific producer, and has directing credits stretching back to the 1980s – most of those credits being on horror movies. Over the course of his career, he has told stories of vampires, the Wendigo, a man-eating fish, and even came up with his own take on Frankenstein’s Monster with his 2019 film Depraved. Continuing down the path of putting his stamp on the concept of classic monsters,...

Typically, when a movie is a box office smash, that means that it makes a ton of money. But for the legendary stars of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, they mean it in a much more literal sense.
As audiences around the world watch these icons of the silver screen reunite for director Adam Wingard’s second MonsterVerse movie, many are likely looking to know more about this massive blockbuster. Luckily, Daily Dead was able to speak with the filmmaker ahead of the sequel’s theatrical release to pull back the curtain on a few details surrounding the Titan tag team turmoil.
In the first part of our interview with Wingard, he discussed how his corner of this cinematic universe was largely inspired by the toys of the 1980s. Not only did this apply to the overall look and feel of the marketing materials or the characters, but it also extended to Hollow Earth,...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire."
Moviegoers have been madly in love with King Kong ever since Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack unleashed him onto the big screen in 1933, and he's only gotten more lovable over the years. Some might argue that's a problem. He is, after all, a monstrously large gorilla who isn't above squashing dozens upon dozens of human beings if need be. But in almost every case, it's the humans who go looking for trouble, straying into Kong's territory and arrogantly trying to cage him for their own greedy interests. Put yourself in the big guy's position, and you'd probably get smash-happy, too.
Kong might be the most relatable kaiju out there. He's eminently susceptible to heartbreak and bleeds red just like the rest of us. When he hurts, we hurt, even when... no, especially when he gets a toothache.

It's been three years since the King of the Monsters and the king of Skull Island graced the silver screen, but the legendary beasts are back in "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." Adam Wingard has returned to the director's chair for another kaiju-filled romp in the MonsterVerse, one that has even more monsters than 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" did. Wingard, it's also worth pointing out, is the first director to helm two movies in this franchise, so we're getting some consistency here. But are we getting anything else after the credits start rolling?
Both "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" had post-credits scenes, so it's reasonable to wonder if "Godzilla x Kong" is going to have one. We're here to address that very question in spoiler-free fashion. So fear not! If you're planning on heading to theaters to see the film on opening weekend, we're not...

Kohei Horikoshi created the electrifying world of My Hero Academia, where quirks are distributed like lollies. People often refer to the series as one of the “New Age Big Three.” The franchise’s popularity led it to receive anime, games, live-action, light novels, and movies, all under the watchful eyes of the author. So, have you ever wondered how much dough Horikoshi has raked in from My Hero Academia? Spoiler alert: It’s pretty impressive.
Kohei Horikoshi never revealed his bank transactions, and nor did he ever hint at his earnings. The statements in this article are derived purely from an average of how much people typically get paid in his stature. So, take everything with a grain of salt.
Let me address the elephant in the room first, Cbr has reported that Horikoshi’s net worth is around $6-10 million. While he is not the highest-paid mangaka, he does...

Three years ago, back when director Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong was released, it was announced that the filmmaker would be making a movie based on the classic animated series ThunderCats (which originally ran from 1985 to 1989), with his approach being to make it a live action / CGI animation hybrid, as he couldn’t imagine hiring actors to just play the ThunderCats in makeup. Then Wingard got caught up in the production of Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire, which is set to reach theatres on March 29th – but during an interview with io9, he confirmed that he hasn’t left the ThunderCats behind. That project is still in active development.
Wingard said, “Simon [Barrett] and I are still actively working on the script. We finished our last draft basically right when I was going into production on [Godzilla x Kong] and we just had to put everything on hold. [But] right now we...

This is really something special. A movie that resonates with me to such a degree that it is etched upon all that I love within the genre. It feels like a twisted take on a certain Marvel hero who loves to show off his patriotism—and love for his country—through blood, bullets, and even a bar brawl. All he was missing was a vibranium shield. This film involves a charismatic, stone-cold stoic, and reserved antagonist that you sometimes cheer for, even if he has a bloodlust towards innocent bystanders. I would like to defend myself by saying that it’s not just a cult-classic, but a bona fide, badass flick that displays multiple elements of thriller, comedy, action, and horror. It gels together so damn well, that you can’t believe it’s not butter. Today we’re discussing Adam Wingard’s 2014, stranger-danger film, The Guest (watch it Here...

Author Django Wexler’s novel How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying – which has been described as “Groundhog Day meets Guardians of the Galaxy” – won’t be reaching store shelves until May 21st (you can pre-order a copy at This Link), but Deadline reports that Legendary has already come out the winner in a bidding war over the adaptation rights. A TV series adaptation is now in development, with Legendary’s Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard heading up the project and producing with his manager Jeremy Platt.

It may be Valentine’s Day, but it’s also a Godzilla kind of day. Earlier today, I shared the news that Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki wants to make a sequel to that Toho production that would feature some “kaiju vs. kaiju” action, and now a new trailer has arrived online for a different Godzilla monster mash, the fifth film in the Legendary Monsterverse, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This film is set to reach theatres on March 29th, and you can watch the new trailer in the embed above.

The horror genre is generally best known for its monsters, ghosts, ghouls, zombies and other weird and wonderful supernatural creatures. Which is great, because we love it all the more for those classic staples. However, some of the most effective horror movies do not rely upon those things, and as playfully gross as they are, they live in the realm of fantasy, so audiences can generally dissociate them from the real world. So, when a horror movie begins and you see the words ‘based upon a true story’, it makes the terror that follows, all the more serious and intense. If you’re one of those people who’s scared easily by horror movies, you can comfort yourself by saying, ‘well, it’s only a movie’, but if you know that what you’re watching actually occurred, then it’s harder to escape from. The genre has many examples of...

"Fun as hell genre bender." Cineverse + Screambox have debuted the trailer for gnarly horror comedy film called Here for Blood, the latest feature made by the Canadian-Chilean filmmaker Daniel Turres. This premiered back in 2022 at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, and played at FrightFest Glasgow last year. A gory throwback to video store staples of the '80s and '90s, Screambox Original wrestling-fueled horror-comedy Here for Blood will invade select theaters, digital, and Screambox in February. Struggling to make ends meet, a rowdy pro wrestler agrees to babysit a precocious 10-year-old girl. What starts off as a laid-back night of junk food and video games quickly spirals into bloody chaos as the secluded home is invaded by a cult of mask-wearing maniacs. Shawn Roberts stars with Maya Misaljevic, Joelle Farrow, Tara Spencer-Nairn, and Michael Therriault, with Twister Sister's Dee Snider as the voice of the skull. It's described...

Japanese production company and "Godzilla" creator Toho typically makes two types of films about the King of the Monsters. There are the ones where the G-man functions as a metaphor for the horrors of the atomic bombing of Japan and the lingering scars of war (like in "Godzilla Minus One"). Then there are the movies where Godzilla is a glorified bouncer whose job is to slap around any trouble-making kaiju that gets it into their head to wreak havoc on humanity.
Director Gareth Edward's 2014 U.S. "Godzilla" was different in that sense, presenting Godzilla as a misunderstood force of nature while also portraying him and other giant creatures as an allegory for climate change. The next two entries in what's now known as the MonsterVerse, "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," followed suit before culminating with the monster jam that was director Adam Wingard's "Godzilla vs. Kong.

‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ – First Images Preview the Monster Team-Up You’ve Been Waiting For
Godzilla and King Kong are putting their differences aside next year in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and IGN has shared three first look images from the movie today.
In a chat with the site, director Adam Wingard teases the monster they’ll be teaming up to fight. He calls the new threat “a devilish, Kong-type character.”
Wingard previews, “We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that’s really hard to do. There’s a lot more to this character and how he’s a threat, and that’s going to be something that’s going to be fun to kind of dole out.”
Godzilla x Kong will release in theaters on April 12, 2024!

There’s something wonderfully nerve-rattling about a “survive the night” horror scenario, whether it’s a handful of strangers trying to fend off crazed zombies in “Night of the Living Dead” or a group of sarcastic Gen Z friends suspecting each other of murder in “Bodies Bodies Bodies.”
Here are some of our favorite entries in this subgenre, where the weapons are improvised, the stakes are life and death and there’s no guarantee anyone will get out alive.
We did not include movies that take place over a few days (like “Battle Royale”) or movies that aren’t streaming right now, like “Ready or Not.”

“She graced our lives with her beauty and talent, and we are all richer for having had her in our lives. Family meant more than anything to Lara, and they have wanted these few days since her passing to themselves. Rest in peace, my cherished friend,” Scott concluded.
The actress died in her sleep at her home in Topanga Canyon, her daughter said.
The series ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971 and spawned several follow-up movies from creator Dan Curtis.
