I will continue watching this show no matter what happens just because I love tattoo's and I just love watching creative people. About the show itself it could be much better if there was not that constant feel of everybody acting. You're not actors, you're tattoo artists. Every episode you see them speaking bad of and/or to each other and I can only conclude that they are acting. If anybody would talk to me like that, or being in my face all the time, I would just be in a fight every single episode. So to me it's all acting and I don't get why they chose that concept. The challenges are sometimes pretty stupid as well. I would rather watch them tattoo a lot more, with a lot lesser arguing. Some of the artists are also very arrogant and even if some are good I certainly never would go to any of those arrogant bastards. I have a lot of tattoo's and all of the artists I went to were friendly guys. Anyways, if you like tattoo's then the show is worth a watch. But don't watch it for the judges or the game itself because that's pretty boring. I don't even care who's winning, I just want to see nice tattoo's.

rillau24 January 2021I love watching the challenges, the creativity and the critiques BUT all the drama, the cursing and immature behavior is way too much!!! I have never watched a show that uses so much foul language to express themselves. C'mon you're artists and can't handle criticism-seriously??? I enjoy any show that promotes creativity but feel this is definitely a show I can't watch with my grandchildren!!! Wash your mouths out with soap, take the criticism like a mature artistic adult and make the show enjoyable for everyone to watch. David Navarro is a top notch host.

Light148617 October 2018I really don't understand the critics about the lack of art in the show. This is an obviously enterteinment show. The art is a part of the show but, like every talent show, isn't the most important thing.
The show is really good because of the format and how the auctors renew it every season. If you don't like fights, conflicts and challanges, this is not the show for you.
I think the most interessing part is in the continuity and epicity that is bring on the screen thanks to the auctors. They do the best in the season Rivals and the one with the studio artist, in couple.
I want to do a better review but english isn't my primary language - I'm Italian - and I can't be as good as I would in describe how much this show is the best talent show that i've ever seen. -
humuser19 June 2022Love the show other than the finales. So many wrong decisions. Only one I agree with was Scott winning. Cam should've won season 12 no question. I hate that the finale had Dani in it. She's a horrible artist compared to jake, cam, creepy Jason, and even pon. Hell I'd take Laura 20000000 times before I ever even thought about taking her. It's way too scripted to play to the narrative of there being 2 women up against 1 man and have the man come up the shortest. It's an obvious woke decision that hinders what could've been a really cool concept with seeing if female artists are better. They're not. At least in the ones we saw in season 12. Other than that season, I love the show. Dave, Chris, and Oliver make great judges and are harsh, but usually fair in their assumptions of the art.

I have watched every season of this show and loved every minute of it, and I was crushed when it was canceled at Paramount, then thrilled when I learned it would be coming back. I knew Oliver Peck had been fired so I didn't expect him to come back, and I even expected Ryan Ashley to take his place if the show were to return. Well, it returned with new judges- Ryan Ashley, Nikko Hurtado, Ami James, and hosted by Joel Madden. Since Dave Navarro has "long Covid" and is unable to put in the hours necessary to film the show, Madden takes over as host and Dave pops by via video.
Well, the contestants are good, a bunch of retreads we have seen before- each of them interesting and irritating in their own way, but it's the judges that are hurting this season.
Ryan Ashley is so meek, I thought she would be a stronger personality, but she seems to eager to please.
Ami James is simple a mute. He has about a 15 word vocabulary and says very little during each episode. Nikko Hurtado is the best addition to the show- he appreciates the art, but is not afraid to get into the technical details- he is the closest this version of the show comes to the previous. Joel Madden does a decent job as host, and Navarro's video visits feel like those videos you see while you're on line for a ride at an amusement park. The fake interaction with the judges is obvious- we know he is not live, people, so please stop trying to fool us.
This show REALLY misses Chris Nunez. He was so good with his critiques, he didn't miss a single detail, and he didn't need to drop an F-bomb ever other word to get his point across. Even Oliver is very much missed here.
Finally, since this is on the streaming service, the curses aren't bleeped out. The old show's bleeps could get annoying, but this is way, way, worse. Every other word is an F-bomb and it's almost like they have been told to say it as often as possible in an effort to appear edgier than the old show. It's not edgy, it sounds uneducated and childish.
However, I hope the show comes back for more, and I sincerely hope at least Nunez returns (he could replace Ami and the show would be hugely upgraded). This is still a fun show to watch and seeing the artists at work is always the best part of it. -

zombiemockingbird8 August 2019I watch this show to see tattoo artists performing their craft, and to hopefully see some great tattoos. However, each season it gets more embarrassing and painful to watch. I know it's a competition, but if the participants are truly as arrogant and obnoxious as they are portrayed, I can't believe they have legitimate businesses as artists. It's all about drama and fighting and bad-mouthing everyone instead of being about the skill and art. Are all of these people honestly ego-maniacs who have no respect for their peers? Granted, there are usually a few nice folks in the bunch but overall it's just embarrassing how juvenile these people are. Then there's the judging which never seems to be based on what they asked for and who actually complied with the rules. Instead it's about popularity, favoritism and keeping the most controversial people to make sure they have drama. Until they do blind judging, get rid of coaches and get rid of teams. this will never be a fair and real competition. I'm still watching for now to see the art, but it's getting increasingly difficult.

dobbysarmy729 July 2013Reasons why this show rocks! The flash challenges are relevant and creative, the work that comes out is actual art that I would love to own. Although it is getting a bit shaky usually at least half of the artist competing are actually good and deserve to be there. The best thing about this show is the judging. The judges are brutally honest. If all the work sucks, then they all suck and they say so. Instead of an even top two and bottom two sometimes its a bottom 3 and top 1 or all bottoms. I think this show would have deserved a ten if it wasn't for the new addition of the canvas jury. I think the time management was spot on for the first two seasons. They actually let you watch the tattooing and also see the end result and discussed with each contestant what was wrong or good with it. The canvas jury seems like its going to take time to hear opinions of people who don't really know what they are talking about or the errors they are looking for. Still a way better show then Best Ink.

I've actually never been a tattoo fan but a few months ago, as I was looking for something a little interesting to watch on TV, I came across Ink Master and I've been watching the show from then on.
What I like in this show: some of the tattoos (flowers, realistic photos mostly-- I hate skulls, black and white, pin ups, old and new school tattoos) and the artistic and technical explanations from the contestants. I ONLY watch it because of these two aspects.
What I don't like: the drama scenes, the insults, fights, strategies to win, and Mr Nunez's behavior. Whereas Oliver Peck and Dave Navarro are rather fair judges (although sometimes a little politeness would be most appreciated), Chris Nunez is obviously only here to humiliate the contestants instead of purely sticking to his role as a judge.
As a conclusion: this show could be a really great one if Chris Nunez wasn't there and if the contestants were chosen differently. Some of them don't care a d**n about their 'art', they're just here to fight and make a fuss. -

djurrepower1 September 2021I've seen every season so far (till s13), and its clear that not all seasons are equal. So a season like nr 7 hits it out of the park, and does bring the overall score of this show up. But overall this show does have it fair share of bad tropes. It still reality tv at its core, so a lot of staged drame, overedited and campy reactions. The show also has its fair share of controvery regarding how much the actual tattoos matter if you stay or get kicked off. But despite its flaws its certainly entertaining if you're into the niche of tatooing.
6/10: not that great, but it does have its nieche appeal. -
mike-ryan4553 August 2014The first season, I really liked this show. It was about a tattoo competition. Some of the ink was even good but even when it wasn't it was focused on the art.
Unfortunately, things began to go down hill in the second season. One of the judges, Chris Nunez, became snarkier and snarkier. He seemed to be trying to humiliate and put down the contestants who didn't measure up rather than pull them up to do even better.
Each season, there was a jerk added to the mix. They were someone who would try to "play the game strategically" to get ahead. It became very annoying to watch the petty politics and insults.
The show completely jumped the shark when they announced in the fourth season finale that everyone on the show would have a rival, someone brought in to fight with. Great, pre-made arguing. What a joke! That was the death moment of the show. As soon as they announced that contestants are going to be chosen not on the basis of their art work but on the quality of their enemies I knew the show was dead. -

audreyhunter-9774521 December 2023Previous seasons of Ink Master proved that the finalists were versatile. Challenges throughout previous seasons tested black and gray, color realism, new school, traditional Japanese, biomechanic, American Traditional, etc. This season, Freddie's first black and gray tattoo was IN the finale. Jon was easily the most versatile artist this season and he took 3rd. Only 1 artist did a pin up the whole season.
Ryan was a breath of fresh air compared to DJ as a judge. She is fair and doesn't pick favorites. DJ will always pick his team no matter what and it gets tiresome. Nikko was just a warm body on set and not much else. They were advertised as coaches but very little coaching was done. I don't think I heard "blowout" or "trauma to the skin" once this season when there were some pretty obvious mess ups.
Flash challenges felt a little stale. Flash challenges used to be my favorite part. The medium of the artwork was creative in and of itself. They were pretty straightforward this season. "This week, we're testing precision/artistry/detail/etc." That didn't carry through to the elimination tattoos. It didn't feel like anybody was eliminated based on their lack of what the theme of the week was.
Season 15 felt like a shell of what Ink Master has become. Is Bobby a good tattoo artist? No doubt. Would he be the first eliminated if he were on an all star season? I wouldn't be surprised. He was the season winner, but not an Ink Master.
The twists were fun though and not over done. -

Yes there is drama in this show and there were a few moments that made me mad, for example two episodes with Julia Carlson where she tells her client to go f*** himself and Chris Blinston when he mocked a client with a panic attack. But other than that, I like this show mainly because i like seeing the tattoos and seeing what the judges think. However I will admit they are a bit biased sometimes because there were some times where I disagreed with them. Other than that I don't mind this show.

Kabule17 March 2021Watched through season eight. Show has a lot of interesting and well executed tattoos and it was an enjoyable time to see most of the artists grow over the course of the season. It seemed to me to be a bit irresponsible the amount of unprepared or bad artists they let into the show in the beginning of each season, leaving many canvases with bad tattoos. The show felt a bit unfair and uneven in how tattoos were judged. The drama was hyped up way too much when the focus should have been on the tattoos, the challenges, and the techniques used. Even with an increase in changing up the formula from season to season, the show still became stale. Seemed to be a hint of sexism and elitism by both the contestants and the judges at times throughout the show. Worth watching for the tattoos if you enjoy that, and better than most highly watched reality TV shows, but it has a lot of drawbacks that keep the positivity and creativity of some tattoos and challenges from giving this show a better score.

lucifer_over_tinseltown24 July 2019There was a time when I thought tats were for folks who didn't understand that individuality is something found on the inside, along the inner journey. I was wrong. A failure of my own imagination. It's a balance of both inner and outer. I'm a believer in the fine art of tattooing now. This show brought about a seismic change in me. The contestants, for the most part, are impressive artists in the truest sense of the word. But the best part is the panel of judges and especially the host, Dave Navarro. I was familiar with Dave as a guitar virtuoso of the highest order with Jane's Addiction. I also enjoy his podcast which is equal parts high and lowbrow. It's bladder-looseningly hilarious. Dave's double-jointed wit, creativity and intellect is something sorely missing with most reality TV hosts. So I can forgive him for dressing like an Italian grandmother for a funeral in his black shawls and capes. Judge Nunez is intense and hysterical in turns. His knowledge of the artform is impressive. His sartorial choices, much like Dave's, are questionable though. He seems fond of wearing Floridian blouses of tie-dye and animal print design. For this I had to subtract 1 star. Oliver Pecker is also a very knowledgeable judge. He has the most practical fashion sense of the trio. He reminds me of that mustachioed cartoon character that would ramble around singing "Froggy went A-courtin'" and breaking gee-tar strings. He would chase down a cat and pluck a whisker to replace said broken string. Anyway, the show is a masterclass on editing and new, engaging competitions that keep each episode fresh. So strong is my apostasy, that I'm now considering getting some ink myself. Kudos to Dave and the crew!

ranleehow22 December 2021I love the artwork/creativity but there is obviously some politics involved. Some artists are favored (usually women) over artists that are easily better. Ex) Tattoo baby season 3 should have been out long before Josh or Kyle but they kept her on till the finale for some unknown reason! If you can get past the often childish antics, some challenges that are useless and the sporadic favoritism, It's a pretty fun show.

Some of the artists are arrogant, but what sets this show apart from other is that the judges are real and they aren't afraid to actually critique and that is just refreshing.
A lot of the art and tattoos are just amazing to look at too.
The problem I'm having is the fact that many of the seasons just keep bringing back the same artist, I would almost be ok with that if they were artist that made top 5 , but they are inviting ones that have won.. DJ has been on there 3 times and won every single one, it's not even fun having him on there anymore. He is amazing, but it's getting boring and it would be nice if other artist got a chance.
I know the tattoo world is probably small, and many accomplished tatto artist probably don't want to go because they would have something to lose, but if they can't get new contestants, they just need to quit with this show. -
davidlilly-7282122 November 2018What a joke!!!! I'm so sick and tired of the judges. They even say that a tattoo artist doesn't meet the challenge AT ALL and yet they STILL won't send them home, (I.E. Amanda). And it happens time after time after time. It's gotten COMPLETELY LUDICROUS!!!!!!
