  • Spoony really had a strong streak of Highlander-related videos ranging from The Quickening to the infamous Atari Jaguar CD video game Last of the MacLeods, and it's unfortunate that the guy doesn't seem to be doing that much these days. His YouTube channel is still up and has the goods, but he's just... there. He's around but he's not doing anything, at least he hasn't done all that much recently. Ever since he left Channel Awesome a few years ago, he's been in low-status mode.

Anyway, Spoony is probably the best YouTube-based video game critic outside the Angry Video Game Nerd, although I wish the two were releasing new content side by side. Since Spoony, there has been a surge in video game critics on YouTube, like JonTron, ProJared and Space Hamster. It would be great to see Spoony re-enter the area which made him so popular in the first place.

Want a fanboy who isn't the typically forgiving panderer? Well, The Spoony Experiment is for you.

I like Spoony. His show has its up and downs for sure (and I guess that this is also true about his private live), but in general I enjoy his "work".

There are a lot of review-people out there, but Spoony sometimes really has genius moments of humor. (Lately not so much when he is drunk in front of camera and thinks he is a golden go)

My personal highlight are his reviews to the Ultima-Series. Its just interesting to watch, and he is really in it with is heart. I just write this while watching his interviews with Lord British that came up online a few days ago (I am writing in October 2013) and you know ... he is just "somebody" who did something that meant something to him, and now he is invited in the holy-halls of Lord British.

    Cool thing.

Way to go Spoony. Keep standing!

    Warning: Spoilers
First of, elephant in the room. Yes, the post TGWTG Spoony is a very different Spoony than the golden days Spoony. His black-hole board-game reviews have been very hit and miss, with some simply being sub-par. And he hasn't reliably produced a video since the Ultima reviews, and even those had some pretty huge gaps/delays. But I personally believe there's light at the end of the tunnel. I think he's newer Final Fantasy reviews shows a LOT of promise, and when his jokes hit, they hit has hard as ever. That being said, it's entirely possible that his reviews and videos will keep going down the dark path, and he will end up becoming one of the hundreds mediocre video reviewers out there.

Finally I'll just say, if you want to watch Spoony at his best, any of his Ultima or movie video reviews are complete gold, most of his game reviews are REALLY good too! I've only watch the Phantasmagoria lets play when it came out, but I remember the 5hour long journey to be one where I laughed the most. I still chuckle when I get a flashback to gay- spoony and I Heard That Curtis. The comedic timing was just insane, especially for a lets play.

Personal favorites; The Dirty Dance/ Hells Kitchen duo. Clones of Bruce Lee. Yors World. Highlander The Source.

    Have fun!
  • Firstly, if you don't like caustic internet reviewers, you won't like Spoony. It is a pop-culture review show, and while he does things that other don't, at it's core the show is just a guy mocking games and movies.

However, if you do like this form of entertainment, Spoony is by far one of the best in the format. He's not limited to one form of entertainment. He reviews movies, games, TV shows, and even some board games. And unlike many other reviewers, Spoony does more than just say "this sucks", he admits when he likes cheesy or horrible things, so there's a kind of child-like wonderment buried under the swear words and pop-culture references.

One thing that sets him apart from his peers is the fact that he does a wide variety of video types. He has many twenty-minute-or-so reviews, but he also does extremely long videos as well. His Ultima Retrospective comes out to about five hours, his FF VIII, X, and X-2 reviews are feature-length. He has also done "Let's Play" videos, where he plays entirely through FMV games from the mid-90s which are hours long, during which he riffs on the acting like an episode of MST3K, and he's actually pretty damn good at that.

If you work at a computer all day and usually listen to music or something in the background, I suggest listening to his Ultima Retrospective or Let's Play videos while you work. They're funny, you get a real feel for the guy's personality, and they are so enjoyable they make your mundane job fun. That's really what I use his videos for, a work soundtrack.

But like I said, if you hate internet reviews, Spoony will probably not be any better. But if you do like shows such as "The Nostalgia Critic", then Spoony is just as funny but in a different format(s) and tone, and in my opinion better.
  • Warning: Spoilers
While there are many parts of Spoony's various reviews which are enjoyable, they also seem to offend people. Whether its accidentally offending someone or disliking Pacific Rim, people always seem to be angry at Spoony. This, however, provides fantastic real-time entertainment for those who are able to sit back and watch the action.

As a reviewer he is fantastic. He takes things which seem like they would be nit picking and follow them until they logically become major issues with the game. He has always been a fan of classic games (playing Ultima and D&D growing up) and does not stand for anything less than cult-worthy. His story arcs are thoroughly engaging and always hilarious. He is a great actor and obsesses over delivering the best possible product, even if that means spending weeks on it.

Overall, this series is worth checking out. Even people who hate Spoony still watch and re-watch his videos, so that must be worth something.
  • As of the time of writing this post, it has been:

*76 days since his 'Street Hunter Rebuary' review (his last real movie review)

*351 days since his 'Spoony & April See Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' review (his last real vlog)

*437 days since the 'Massacre At Central High' review (his second-last real movie review)

*521 days since the 'Nightmare: Back In The Hole' review (his last Black Hole of Board Games Review)

*622 days since the 'Big Trouble In Little China for Commodore 64' review (his last actual video game review, done in his classic style)

Everything in between has either been Wrestle Wrestles, Live Wires or Counter Monkeys (which in all fairness ARE content, but none of which I've never really been interested in watching).

Nothing against Mr Antwiler, but he really does need to at least announce that he's semi-retired from being a serious internet reviewer and we fans need to come to the realisation that he's not going to return to form anytime soon (which is understandable, because he's not a well man).

He needs to look after himself and get his life in order, and then hopefully one day he'll make a great comeback, but this is unlikely for the foreseeable future in my opinion.

    Warning: Spoilers
That is my main problem with Noah Antwiler that he has proved time and time again that he is not always kind in his reviews to anything. Highlander sequels, Final Fantasy, Transformers etc. etc, but he did a good job for a time. Making people laugh greatly through his highly critical but hilarious videos on video games, but however the magic is dying for him now. Certain personal events that have happened that I won't go into here are what have changed Antwiler from an aspiring internet reviewer to a lazy good for nothing git, who sadly I no longer like. But what great times I did have with his show, even though I didn't agree with him sometimes on his reviews. Though his V-logs some of them I outright despised him in, his opinion was so over the top and over reactionary that it bordered on lunacy. But now Noah Antwiler is in a dark place, and one hopes he may recover from it. However I don't care, he has soured to me over the year I started to watch him and my niceness has gone away and I purely just find irritation at him.
  • Warning: Spoilers
No matter how much I try, I never found anything good about the videos made by one of the reviewers of That Guy With Glasses. Those videos just don't amuse me.

I just don't like their style of comedy. I 'don't like the characters they play, I found most of the gags annoying and irritating.

Of course, many people love the reviews made by The Nostalgia Critic, the Nostalgia Chick, Spoony and the other guys from this website, and I don't have any problem with that.

But I just don't like this kind of stuff. It is not so simple as "If you don't like them, then, don't watch them". The problem is that reviewers as The Nostalgia Critic and the others from That Guy with Glasses are mentioned in almost every single forum and website. It is almost like it was an obligation like those videos.

Again, I don't have any problem with people liking those kind of videos, but in my opinion, there is nothing good about them, and no matter how much I try, I just hate those videos.
