Jessica Simpson can’t catch a break with her fans. After she posted a photo of herself and daughter, Maxwell Drew, 11, in revealing outfits with the caption “take your Barbie to work,” fans weren’t having it. Many called the excessive make-up and clothing choices “inappropriate” for an 11-year-old.
The photo was taken at PetSafe Unleashed event in L.A.
One wrote, “She’s 11!!!!! Slow it down… “Pretty baby” flashbacks…..”
Another commented: “If you would ask me I would have guessed her age to be 13 14 by the way she was dressed and looked. We try to age faster than we need to. We all try to look older when we were younger. It’s up to the parents to make sure that we dress appropriately for our age. Beautiful girl beautiful mother.”
This comes on the heels of an outpouring of fan concern about Simpson’s dramatic weight loss in recent months.

Fans are finally hearing Jessica Simpson‘s side, 17 years after her divorce from Nick Lachey.
An old clip of the reality show Newlyweds, featuring then-married couple Simpson and Lachey, recently resurfaced.
The video shows the Dukes of Hazzard actress and Love Is Blind host sitting at a table arguing over decorating their house.
“There’s always something f—ing wrong with whatever I do,” Lachey mumbles.
As their argument continues, Lachey calls Simpson a “spoiled brat” various times.
Over the years, Simpson has frequently been called a “dumb blonde,” while Lachey was regarded as the perfect husband in the 2000s reality show.
“We owe Jessica Simpson an apology,” a user commented.
“Wow… this hits differently watching now as a married adult,” another said.
“Idk if he should be hosting a show about finding love,” a third wrote.
In response to the TikTok commenters, Simpson told Bustle, “It’s amazing what publicity can do.

Jessica Simpson is serving up some fashion nostalgia. The singer-actress, 41, showed off a stylish new outfit on Instagram, which included a nearly 19-year-old designer skirt she first wore as a guest on The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn in March 2012. "Fun fact- I wore this Gucci skirt promoting the first season of Newlyweds at 22yrs old on Craig Killburn," she captioned the snap on May 6. "@rachelzoe remember this?" This article contains spoilers for Saving Private Ryan.
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998) is known for a number of things: the gut-wrenching, visceral terror of its battle scenes (especially the opening landing at Omaha Beach), the shocking way in which bodies are torn to pieces during the course of those battles, the attention to period detail, and a powerful performance by Tom Hanks that rates as one of his finest.
But one thing that the film may not be as widely recognized for is the lineup of young actors who played members of Capt. John Miller’s (Hanks) squad, or soldiers they met along the way as they searched throughout Normandy for the missing Pvt. James Francis Ryan. From Matt Damon to Vin Diesel, Spielberg recruited relatively new faces who were all, in one way or another, either launching their careers outright or just starting to make their mark on Hollywood.

During the late 1960s, Fred Hampton was one of the biggest voices in the American Black Panther Party where he preached revolutionary socialism and founded the Rainbow Coalition. He was also shot repeatedly in the head at point blank range by members of the Chicago Police Department in 1969. In 2021, director Shaka King looks to tell Hampton’s story, and that of the man who betrayed him, in visceral detail.

“I would never intend to shame anybody and that was absolutely not my intention,” Portman told Entertainment Tonight Wednesday night. “I was really talking about mixed media messages out there for young women and completely apologize for any hurt it may have caused because that was definitely not my intention.”

2018 Tribeca Film Festival – Look Who’s Talking Now!
Last year’s Tribeca Film Festival Tribeca Talks series saw the unlikely on stage pairing of Robert Rodriguez and Barbra Streisand to discuss the latter’s career. Rodriguez revealed that in his household growing up Streisand was already revered as a singer and actress, but when she became a filmmaker it inspired a young Robert to take up a camera himself.
The 2018 line-up doesn’t have any pairings quite as surprising, but there are still some exciting names to see alongside each other such as Alec Baldwin and Spike Lee who’ll discuss their movie passions, while Tribeca Film Festival co-founder and all round legend Robert De Niro will interview Bradley Cooper about his career as actor, producer and director. Other names taking to the Tribeca Talks stage this year include Alexander Payne, Laura Poitras, Nancy Meyers, John Legend, Edward Burns, Jamie Foxx,...

This time of year most everyone in the film world is talking about Oscar contenders, movies like Boyhood, Birdman, and Selma, which get more press each week as awards season marches on. However, I'm here today to provide a recommendation for a film you likely haven't heard of, which you can check out right now on VOD. The film is called Layover, and it is an impressive high-concept drama that took me completely by surprise. The first outing from writer-director Joshua Caldwell, Layover is very much in the vein of Richard Linklater's Before trilogy. Driven not by traditional plot mechanics but by the characters we see on screen and the way they interact with the world around them, Caldwell's primarily French-language film centers on a Parisian woman named Simone (Nathalie Fay) as she navigates the city of Los Angeles for a night after her connecting flight to Singapore is cancelled.

When Emily Best spoke to Indiewire last month about her new crowdfunding platform, Seed&Spark, which also allows for online distribution, we were intrigued by her story of receiving support for her film "Like the Water," in unexpected packages, namely in donated services, loaned locations, and goods needed for production. In the following first person article, Best explains the Diy lessons she learned from crowdfunding before crowdfunding was "a thing," and how that led her to found Seed&Spark. Towards the end of 2010, Caitlin FitzGerald was making "Newlyweds" with Ed Burns. She was also starring in a site-specific production of "Hedda Gabler." This is where I met her (playing Thea to her Hedda), along with Caroline von Kuhn and three other remarkable women who would change my life forever. In 1760s Denmark, a woman (Alicia Viklander) married to the highly irresponsible King Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard) falls for his politically radical physician (Mads Mikkelsen). The two lovers conspire to manipulate the king into embracing the ideas of the Enlightenment, which leads to a revolution.

Burns calls the film his "most personal work"; check out the synopsis below. Tribeca's Geoff Gilmore says, “Deeply felt performances from a strong ensemble cast make the Fitzgeralds a family that recalls the McMullen’s but with a fresh and wry perspective all its own.” With The Fitzgerald Family Christmas, Burns returns to the working-class, Irish-American roots of The Brothers...

In For A Good Time, Call …, Katie (Ari Graynor) and Lauren (Lauren Miller) are two “frenemies” economically forced to live together in a New York apartment. When push comes to shove, they decide to work together to start a phone sex hot line, as originally privately pioneered by Katie.
The film is written by Lauren Miller and Katie Naylon, whose friendship inspired the script. It is directed by first-time helmer Jamie Travis, whose short films can be viewed on Vimeo here.
In a roundtable interview, I talked to this quartet about their film, the importance of shooting it in New York, what they kept from the colorful set, and more.
For A Good Time, Call … opens in Chicago on August 31.
This is a very New York movie, especially as indicated by the film’s opening credits. How important was it to you all to set this story in New York?...

In the fast-car comedy Hit and Run, actor Dax Shepard plays an ex-getaway driver named Charles Bronson who risks breaking Witness Protection by driving his girlfriend (played by Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles for an important interview. Things get crazy when they are chased by a bitter criminal associate (played by Bradley Cooper, in dreadlocks) looking for the money from their last failed robbery.
Gaining notoriety from his role as Ashton Kutcher’s sidekick on MTV’s show “Punk’d,” Shepard can currently be seen on the show “Parenthood.” Off-screen, he is engaged/basically married to actress Kristen Bell (they are not formally married out for the cause for equal marriage in California). Hit and Run marks his second time co-directing a feature film, his first being a mockumentary titled Brother’s Justice, also co-directed with collaborator David Palmer.

Coming after his “thinking outside of the box” film Buried, (in which Ryan Reynolds played a man trapped in box with a cell phone with a long battery), writer/director Rodrigo Cortes challenges filmgoers with Red Lights, a movie about the debate over psychics. In the movie, Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy play two investigators who make a career out of debunking fake psychics, calling out their earpieces and theatrics, etc. The two investigators meet their biggest challenge when they try to disprove blind Simon Silver (Robert De Niro), a blind psychic who has become a legend no one has been able to debunk.
I sat down with Cortés and Murphy in a roundtable interview to discuss the film, its reception, what it was like to act against Robert De Niro, and more.

In the film Where Do We Go Now? writer/director/actress Nadine Labaki plays Amale, a shop owner in a small Lebanese village that has random surges of violent religious tension. In hopes of saving the Muslim and Christian men from ultimately destroying each other, Amale spearheads a wild plan to distract and disarm the men with the help of other wives and mothers in the village. The film is Labaki’s second, (having previously done the acclaimed Caramel), and also marks another movie in which she chooses to act and direct alongside non-professional actors.
I sat down with Labaki to discuss her film, why she chooses to work with non-professional actors, and the impact that television had on her life when she was hiding from the war outside.
Where Do We Go Now? opens at Chicago’s Music Box theater on May 18.
How long have you been doing promotion for this film?...

Audiences are used to seeing sequels to big-budget Hollywood blockbusters like "The Dark Knight," but are continuations of indie films the next trend? Judging by upcoming releases from filmmakers such as Julie Delpy and perhaps Edward Burns, maybe so.
"I like doing sequels," Delpy told HuffPost Entertainment senior writer Mike Ryan. Delpy is currently promoting "2 Days in New York," a sequel to her 2007 film "2 Days in Paris."
"I think it's a fun thing to follow characters in time," she said at the Tribeca Film Festival. "We did that on 'Before Sunset' [a sequel to 'Before Sunrise'], which was really ballsy at the time. When we wrote the screenplay, no one believed in it. And it did better than the first film, in a way. And doing this sequel is not an obvious thing to do."
It isn't, but Delpy is far from alone. While discussing his new American Express-backed short film "Doggy Bags...

What would a Tribeca Film Festival be without Ed Burns? The writer/director/actor has long been associated with the downtown Manhattan festival (his films Newlyweds and Nice Guy Johnny both premiered there) and this year is no exception. As the culmination of the 2011 American Express My Movie Pitch contest, Burns wrote, produced, and directed a short film, Doggy Bags (which can be seen here) based on a winning story entry from Susan Brennan.

What would the Tribeca Film Festival be without Ed Burns? The independent filmmaker has screened six of his films at the event (last year he closed the festival with "Newlyweds") and this year he's back for a seventh time with the world premiere of his short, "Doggy Bags." The project is the result of the 2011 American Express My Movie Pitch competition, which allows one winning contestant to have their idea made into a short. This year's film comes courtesy of winner Susan Brennan, who pitched a story about a young man who suspects his girlfriend is hiding a secret after she routinely orders massive amounts of food to go. Ahead of its premiere on April 20, Indiewire is pleased to offer you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Doggy Bags." It looks like the Avengers are assembling a few days early to celebrate the 11th annual Tribeca Film Festival. Organizers announced on Wednesday that Marvel's "The Avengers" will close out the New York-set film fest on April 28, six days before the film's release on May 4.
The Saturday night screening will welcome various "local heroes" from New York City, ranging from first responders to police and fire officials to members of the U.S. military.
"We are proud that Marvel's 'The Avengers' is the closing film of this year's Tribeca Film Festival and we are excited to welcome local heroes to the screening as special guests," Marvel's Kevin Feige said in a statement. "We all know and love our iconic Super Heroes, but when it really counts, it's our real-life heroes who save the world every day by making it a better place for all of us."

The latest film from Edward Burns focuses on a couple, Buzzy and Katie (Burns and Caitlin Fitzgerald), who receive an unexpected visit from Buzzy’s sister Linda (Kerry Bishe). The fight-less chemistry of the two newlyweds is tested by Linda’s reckless behavior. At the same time, Buzzy and Katie witness the crumbling marriage of their two friends, played by Marsha Dietlein and Max Baker.
Shot for $9,000 and with a small group of filmmakers Burns defines as a “rock band,” Newlyweds is the tenth movie he has directed.
I sat down with Edward Burns for an exclusive interview in which we discussed my favorite David Lynch quote, his best cinematic experience, and the wise words about niche marketing that he received from none other than Tyler Perry.
Newlyweds is now available on video on demand (VOD), and also with Amazon and iTunes.

Ed Burns’ latest writing and directing venture holds the perfect recipe for swiftly putting audiences into a New York state of mind. Like Burns’ own early films, Newlyweds is reminiscent of early Woody Allen films (Annie Hall, Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters), utilizing rich characters and relatable story lines that depict complicated relationships. Even the theatrical poster for Newlyweds brings to mind those of Allen’s early days, suggesting a simplicity and authenticity to the story at hand. Shot on an estimated $9,000 budget, Burns hired virtually all unknown actors and worked with a three-man crew. Together with 2010’s Nice Guy...

Edward Burns is no stranger to the world of indie film. He launched his career with the $25,000 The Brothers McMullen at the Sundance Film Festival back in 1995, during the dark, pre-digital days of 16mm cameras and now-foreign concepts like optical houses and film prints. In 2010, after seven larger-budget features as a writer-director, Burns returned to the low-budget arena with Nice Guy Johnny. He bypassed traditional distribution methods by releasing the film himself, first with a short festival tour and then with a simultaneous day-and-date rollout on VOD, DVD and Pay-Per-View. Now Burns is taking this new model even further with Newlyweds, which he produced for a staggering $9,000 sum.

Chicago – Edward Burns is a recognizable character actor, having introduced himself to audiences in the mid-1990s with “The Brothers McMullen.” He also is a veteran filmmaker, having written and directed that film, “She’s The One,” “Sidewalks of New York” and the recent “Newlyweds.”
Burns has taken a more guerilla approach to filmmaking in the last ten years, preferring micro-budget productions with a consistent crew. Since 2002, he has made six feature films, all outside the boundaries of Hollywood. He has partnered with Tribeca Films for his latest outing, “Newlyweds,” a sharp adult comedy about various stages of relationships and marriage in New York City.
Burns also has had a pretty visible career as a film actor in other productions, more notable as Pvt. Reiben in Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan.” Recently, he played opposite Katherine Heigl in “27 Dresses” and will be in the upcoming “Man on a Ledge” opposite Elizabeth Banks.
