Bradley Cooper is a multi-time Oscar nominee with a deep history in the film industry. After kicking off his career with an episode of Sex and the City in 1999, the early days of Cooper's career consisted mainly of comedies. This trend began for the actor in 2001 when he acted in the star-studded Wet Hot American Summer. From there, the then-rising star would go on to make several other movies in the same genre, including Wedding Crashers, The Rocker, and more.
It was not until the 2010s that Cooper's career really shifted more heavily into drama. In 2013, Cooper was nominated for his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role in the Jennifer Lawrence-co-starring film Silver Linings Playbook. He would continue on a hot streak in dramas from that point, being nominated for Oscars in both subsequent years. Now, he is a multi-hyphenate talent known for acting, producing,...

The Hangover franchise is seemingly on hiatus with no new movie in development, but Zack Galifianakis' wild Hangover 4 plan could save it. The Hangover was released in 2009 and became a phenomenal hit. It wasn't completely original, as it had the tried-and-true premise of a group of friends who have to retrace their steps the morning after an outrageous night. However, the film was laugh-out-loud funny, featured instantly iconic characters, and a cast that clearly had chemistry. A roaring success, The Hangover, became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy in the United States.
The sequel even became the highest-grossing comedy of all time, and along with The Hangover Part III, the films have grossed over $1.4 billion (via The Numbers). It was almost guaranteed that the original movie was going to get countless sequels following its phenomenal success, but the franchise has been an example of diminishing returns. Director Todd Phillips insists he won’t be making Joker 3, and that Joker: Folie A Deux will bring his take on the story to an end.
Director Todd Phillips is back on the promotional trail, as the release date looms for his high-profile sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux. The sequel to the billion dollar, Oscar-winning Joker movie brings Joaquin Phoenix back to the title role, joined this time by Lady Gaga as well.
Phillips sprung to profile off the back of his comedy work, with movies such as The Hangover trilogy and Road Trip. The jump to Joker was a surprise, but there’s little denying it paid off. Still, in a new conversation with Variety, Phillips has been suggesting that those looking for a Joker 3 are likely to be disappointed.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s Hugh Jackman is set to star in Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and I was not prepared for the synopsis. Let’s get right to it.
Based on Leonie Swann’s international bestseller, the film follows George Hardy (Jackman), “a shepherd who loves his sheep and raises them only for their wool. Every night, he reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand, never suspecting that not only can they understand, but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The local cop Tim Derry, on the other hand, has never solved a serious crime in his life, so the sheep conclude they will have to solve it themselves, even if it means...

Good comedy sequels are rare, more so than in other genres. Characters in great comedies often have perfect endings that make sequels unnecessary. Standalone classics like Airplane and The Hangover didn't need sequels.
Comedy sequels are less dependable than any other genre, and some classic comedy movies should have been left as standalone movies. A movie's financial success often dictates whether it gets a sequel or not, but there have been enough underwhelming comedy sequels to prove that story concerns should take precedence. Great comedies often provide perfect endings for their characters which show them overcoming whatever humorous flaw has been holding them back, making a sequel unnecessary.
Good comedy sequels are rare, and good comedy franchises even more so. This is because comedy movies rely on surprise and novelty. Once both of these wear off, the characters might lose their appeal. Comedy characters are usually specifically crafted for their stories.

Baby Carlos/Tyler was a memorable character in The Hangover trilogy, creating nostalgic and heartwarming moments amidst chaos. Grant Holmquist, one of eight baby actors who portrayed Carlos/Tyler, had a significant role in the franchise's legacy. Now teenagers, Grant and his twin sister Avery are saving their residuals for college, enjoying a private life away from the spotlight.
The Hangover trilogy, known for its raunchy humor and outrageous adventures, captured audiences with hilarious characters and unforgettable moments, including the Hangover baby, also known as Carlos. Baby Carlos, later revealed as Tyler, became a hilarious part of the Wolf Pack. In the Todd Phillips-directed movie, Tyler is the son of Jade (Heather Graham), a stripper Stu (Ed Helms) marries in a drunken stupor. The Masked Singer Season 11 Judges’ Net Worth (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Fox TV’s The Masked Singer is a unique reality singing show where celebs compete against one another, but there is a fun twist. While performing, they wear fancy costumes and face masks to conceal their identities. The singing reality series is back with its Season 11, and the first episode premiered earlier this month. There had been a change in the judges’ panel this year as fan favorite Nicole Scherzinger did not return alongside Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, and Robin Thicke. Rita Ora has taken her place.
The fans were initially upset and worried about Nicole’s exit from the show. But it was later reported that Nicole was busy with the revival of Andrew Llyod Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in London’s West End. It began in September, which coincided with the reality show’s filming. As a result,...

On a recent episode of ‘The New Yorker Radio Hour’ podcast, Cooper spoke to host David Remnick about his directorial efforts, including ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Maestro’, and pivoting to more dramatic roles, reports Variety.
Remnick then asked Cooper: “Are you done with fun? In other words, if another kinda fun comic role came along, it was three months of your life, it’s not ‘Hangover 5’ but something of a similar spirit.”
“Well, I would do ‘Hangover 5,’” Cooper responded. “It would be ‘Hangover 4’ first, but yea You would do that in a flash? Not just to pay the bills,” Remnick asked.
“I would probably do ‘Hangover 4’ in an instant,” Cooper said. “Just because I love Todd (Phillips), I love Zach (Galifianakis), I love Ed (Helms) so much, I probably would.

Bradley Cooper has come a long way since his early days as an R-rated comedy star. He’s racked up four Oscar nominations for his acting work (and another five as a producer and writer), and his upcoming Netflix passion project “Maestro” could be a major player in the upcoming award season. But Cooper’s highbrow success hasn’t lessened his affection for the comedy franchise that helped make him a superstar.

When Fast Five came out in the summer of 2011, it was a smash hit. While people expected the franchise to do well, no one thought that the film would be so big that it would turn what had, up to then, been a series of glorified B-movies into the next major tentpole franchise. To capitalize on the film’s success, Fast & Furious 6 (whose on-screen title is simply Furious 6) was immediately put into production. Director Justin Lin and star Vin Diesel had already planned an epic conclusion for what they hoped would be the next film before Fast Five came out. With their sequel now a reality, Lin and his crew opted to make this an even bigger film than its predecessor, with their home studio, Universal, now granting them the kind of tentpole movie budgets reserved for the 007 and Mission: Impossible franchises, as Fast Five had...

Some movie franchises, like Harry Potter and John Wick, have managed to maintain consistent quality throughout their installments, proving that an infallible movie franchise is possible with the right approach and execution. Major movie franchises like The Hangover and Saw may have had one great movie, but their subsequent installments failed to live up to the original's quality, resulting in a diminished legacy. The Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises started off strong with their first films, but subsequent sequels were unable to capture the original's brilliance and felt repetitive and unfocused.

One of the biggest challenges facing Hollywood creatives (especially those involved in franchise projects) is making three or four films within the same canon while maintaining a consistent quality. Many have tried and failed, often leaving audiences feeling as though the story in question was better without the latter installments altogether. It can even damage the reputation of the preceding volumes as memories of it sour with the distaste an audience can get from its sequel(s). Yet sequels remain an inevitable fixture in the movie business, especially when their predecessors do well at the box office.
With many franchises, audiences would be forgiven for being unaware of generic and legacy sequels, as they often release mediocre box office returns and lukewarm receptions. The insistence of studios capitalizing on the successes of their pre-existing IP does not demand maintaining high-quality storytelling, but rather that sequels contain enough fan service – which...

After years of friendship and flirtation, it was really surprising that Erin and Andy broke up twice on The Office. In a series that has some grand office relationships at the forefront, such as Jim and Pam or Michael and Holly, it did feel like Erin and Andy had what it took to be among some of the Scranton branch's best couples. They may not have known each other as long as Jim and Pam had, but Erin and Andy did share the same lighthearted and playful dynamic.
However, beneath their silly jokes and songs, there were a lot of issues that weren’t addressed out of immaturity. In a sense, Erin and Andy had to grow up as individuals before they were able to grow as a couple, which was noticeable when Andy became even more unlikeable in season 9. “A Man Called Otto” (Sony/$14.99) was a flop as an adult-appeal awards contender, but it came out on top of VOD charts the week before the Oscars. Challenging its dominance is a strong performance by “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” (Crunchyroll/$9.99), which took #1 at Google Play while “Otto” led at Vudu and iTunes.
Netflix has an eye-popping nine theatrical releases on its top 10, including six studio sequels. Among those are four separate “Hunger Games” franchise entries, despite those films spending years in constant basic-cable rotation.
Neither “Otto” nor “Dragon” spent much time at a premium price. Sony quickly dropped the price of “Otto” from its initial $19.99. “Dragon,” from the Sony-owned Japanese anime label Crunchyroll, was introduced as a $9.99 purchase. It opened in U.S. theaters last August, the same week that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village” opened to over $10 million.

The Hangover trilogy ranked highly with critics because of the wild antics and mischief the main characters got into. The first movie was a classic bachelor party gone wrong that encouraged the age-old statement “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” What followed were two sequels that continued shenanigans where the main characters don’t remember anything from the night before. With Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha, and Ed Helms, leading the trilogy, The Hangover became a success.
However, three movies don’t necessarily mean that each film was better than the next. Sometimes high budgets can cloud the storyline with out-of-the-ordinary settings and expectations. Award-wise, The Hangover was the only movie nominated for a Golden Globe, while the sequels were both nominated for cinematic failures at the Razzie Awards. They're viewed as financial successes but one is better than the next.

Plot: After his construction company shuts down, a down and out Mike (Channing Tatum) accepts an offer from a wealthy divorcee (Salma Hayek) to fly to London and mount a spectacular stage show.
Review: Magic Mike’s Last Dance is the Staying Alive to the original’s Saturday Night Fever. It’s wholly unnecessary and loses all of the grit, edge and charm that made the original (and its fun sequel) such a sensation. Director Steven Soderbergh has made a tame third entry in the franchise that borders on prudish. We’re supposed to think we’re watching something risqué and naughty, but this is a movie that avoids strip clubs altogether and climaxes in a finale that seems cribbed from the Magic Mike Live stage show and has no nudity whatsoever, with none of the dancers even daring to wear g-strings. HBO Max may (hopefully) be done randomly pulling original series from the service, but there are still a number of TV shows and films due to leave HBO Max in January as part of the regularly scheduled shuffling.
Multiple seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” will leave HBO Max on Jan. 3, so get those final binge-watches in Asap. And the beloved WB series “Everwood” is due to depart on Jan. 21 if you feel like seeing what young Chris Pratt was up to in the early 2000s.
In terms of movies leaving HBO Max, there are quite a lot. “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” turns into a ghost on Jan. 20, while Jon M. Chu’s delightful musical “In the Heights” leaves on Jan. 27.
Noteworthy films leaving HBO Max on Jan. 31 include the first three “John Wick” movies, the first three “Jurassic Park” films, the first two installments in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise,...

Ed Helms reflects on The Hangover's staggering impact on his career. Helms starred in the 2009 party film directed by Todd Phillips alongside Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Justin Bartha. The Hangover earned massive success upon its release, becoming the tenth-highest grossing film of the year and the highest-grossing R-rated comedy film at that time. The franchise's financial success continued with two sequels - The Hangover Part II and The Hangover Part III - which brought back Helms, Cooper, and Galifianakis as the core cast.
During an appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend podcast, Helms described the overwhelming aftermath of The Hangover, stating that his stardom reached "a whole new level” compared to his fame after the early seasons of The Office. The actor spoke about feeling "very lucky” for all the opportunities he was offered while also having "a lot of anxiety" and "turmoil" surrounding his identity and newfound position.

Arizona will hand out up to 125 million a year in tax breaks to Hollywood, joining the ranks of just a handful of states with nine-figure caps in their incentive programs.
Under a program that Gov. Doug Ducey allowed to become law Wednesday without his signature, productions that shoot in Arizona will be eligible for a refundable tax credit of 15 to 20 percent of expenses. The Arizona Motion Picture Production Program will start at 75 million in 2023 and grow to 125 million by 2025.
To qualify, producers must use an Arizona production facility or, if the project is primarily filmed on location, must mostly shoot and conduct pre- and postproduction in the state. The program features a tiered credit system: productions that spend less than 10 million will get a base tax credit of 15 percent, while those that spend more than 35 million will get 20 percent. When Todd Phillips’ The Hangover became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time, it wasn’t long before Warner Bros. executives were asking for a sequel. And when that sequel made even more money, another one was in order. While there’s plenty to enjoy in The Hangover Part II and The Hangover Part III, they’re nowhere near as great as the original movie.

Looking back on The Hangover trilogy, it can be easy to forget just how great the first one was. The sequels never came close to matching its combination of raunchy hilarity and compelling storytelling, and there are a few reasons for this.

There’s a longstanding tradition that the third movie in a trilogy is always the worst. It’s not always the case — just look at Thor: Ragnarok or The Bourne Ultimatum or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade — but there are plenty more examples to support it, like The Godfather Part III, The Matrix Revolutions, The Dark Knight Rises, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Hangover Part III, Blade: Trinity, Taken 3, Terminator: Rise of the Machines, and so on and so forth.

The final chapter in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, aptly titled Spider-Man 3, is widely regarded to be pretty terrible. A lot of this boils down to studio interference and not the creative efforts of Raimi himself, and there’s more to love in this threequel than people give it credit for.

Since working together on The Hangover Part III, director Todd Phillips, editor Jeff Groth and director of photography Lawrence Sher have become something of a creative dream team. The three honed their collaboration skills on the last film in the blockbuster comedy trilogy, followed by the dark comedy War Dogs. But Warner Bros.’ Joker, an intense character study of the comic book villain (and their third collaboration), is by far the most complex endeavor they have made together. It is a film that both Groth and Sher believe is very much a sum of its collaborative parts.

You cut the film as consecutively as possible so you could see the progression of the character while you were still editing. Can you talk a little bit about that?
With a movie called “Joker,” you know quite solidly where you’re going to land at the end. So it was about how are we getting and moving forward to that? It’s [about] the progression from beginning to end. It starts in one particular place and ends in another; we always look and kind of see where we were in our timeline of Arthur [transforming into] Joker.
You were also able to cut the movie with some of the score rather than temp track — did that make a difference to the editing process?

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment in Disney’s swashbuckling franchise, became the lowest-earning entry in the series since the original when it was released in 2017, which was perhaps a sign that audiences weren’t as interested in the adventures of Jack Sparrow as they had been for the last decade and a half. However, a box office haul of almost $800m showed that the brand was still capable of turning a profit.
Since Disney now seemingly dominates every corner of popular culture, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has grossed over $4.5bn at the box office to date, there was little chance that the crew of the Black Pearl would ever really disappear from our screens. In fact, a reboot has been discussed for a while now, which may or may not feature Johnny Depp, but seemed to be in a state...

You’ve probably seen some of Craig Mazin‘s films even if you haven’t realized it. The screenwriter was behind “The Hangover Part II” (2011), “The Hangover Part III” (2013), “Identity Thief” (2013) and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” (2016). All of his screen credits, in fact, had have been in film until now. He made his big television debut with the HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” chronicling the 1986 nuclear plant disaster in northern Ukrainian Ssr, and is currently the odds-on favorite to win the Best Limited Series/TV Movie Writing Emmy.
Since this is a real event that had such wide-ranging effects, getting the facts straight is of the utmost importance, but “Chernobyl” thrives in its balance between factual evidence and emotional beats. And these beats aren’t only prompted by the show’s striking visual presentation, but by its depiction of the disaster’s long-lasting implications and its character-driven nature. For instance, by...

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the final trailer for director Todd Phillips Joker.
The film will be in theaters nationwide October 4.
Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Once upon a time, Memorial Day weekend was circled on every movie theater chain’s calendar as a critical weekend, marking the start of the summer blockbuster season with the release of films what would end up on end-of-year top 10 box office charts.
But, while still potentially a good spot to release a hit film, Memorial Day is no longer the pivotal moneymaker it once was. Back in 2013, a Memorial Day weekend combined record was set with “Fast & Furious 6” leading the box office to $314 million. But since then, there hasn’t been a weekend that has ranked among the top five in Memorial Day box office history. The highest combined gross for the holiday in the past five years is 2014, when “X-Men: Days of Future Past” was the No. 1 film and $231 million was the final count.
This last weekend, Disney’s “Aladdin” had a strong opening with a $116 million 4-day weekend.

“I’m pleased to report that the situation in Chernobyl is stable,” Boris Shcherbina (Stellan Skarsgard), the Soviet deputy prime minister and chairman of the high commission on the accident, reassures a room full of worried faces (and himself?) in the beginning of the clip. “In terms of radiation, I’m told it’s the equivalent of a chest X-ray.”
“No!” Valery Legasov (Jared Harris), the Soviet chemist leading the investigation into the explosion, exclaims. “Chernobyl is on fire. And every atom of...

“You are dealing with something that has never occurred on this planet before.”
Those are the chilling words that open the first trailer for HBO’s upcoming miniseries “Chernobyl,” which premieres Monday May 6 at 9/8c, the network announced Monday. (Watch the trailer above.)
Written by Craig Mazin and starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Waston, the five-part series chronicles the catastrophic 1986 nuclear accident that devastated Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union), diving into how and why it happened, and the men and women who fought to make sure it will never happen again. The short but tense teaser offers enough heartbreaking glimpses of the “before,” “during” and “after” of the disaster to definitely whet your appetite.
Harris plays Valery Legasov, the Soviet chemist tasked by the Kremlin to investigate the explosion; Skarsgard is Boris Shcherbina, the Soviet deputy prime minister and chairman of the high commission on the...

When the standalone Joker movie was first announced, a lot of people didn’t really know what to make of it – and understandably so – with the film existing in its own separate continuity from the ongoing escapades of the Dceu. And despite an abundance of set photos and videos making their way onto the web, it still remains to be seen whether or not star Joaquin Phoenix and War Dogs helmsman Todd Phillips can really pull this thing off.
One person who certainly thinks they can though is The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. Speaking to The IMDb Show recently, the fan favorite actor had nothing but good things to say about his old friend Phoenix, telling the outlet that he’s going to kill it in the role.
“I can’t wait to see what Joaq does in Joker, I’m excited by that. I’ve known him for...

That being said, Justin Shanlian of the Shanlian on Batman podcast has relayed some very enthusiastic responses to the Clown Prince of Crime’s next big screen outing, taking to Twitter to report the praise heaped on Phoenix’s performance, as well as Phillips and Scott Silver’s script:

At tonight’s 32nd American Cinematheque Award dinner at the Beverly Hilton, guests were seated in the ballroom by 7:30 p.m. But it was not until 10:40 p.m. that the night’s honoree, Bradley Cooper, took the stage after an outpouring of affection from Hollywood colleagues, including A Star is Born co-stars Lady Gaga and Sam Elliott, Jennifer Garner, Sean Penn, and many others.
The dinner and multi-media award show was a fundraiser for the American Cinematheque, a nonprofit organization that owns, programs and operates the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard (opened in 1922) and the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
“It took a long time, I know it’s been a very long night, but thank you for staying,” Cooper said, and seemed genuinely stunned by the speeches, some of which moved him to tears. He said the warmth in the ballroom made it feel like “a very small,...
