The unconventional love story of an aspiring actress, her ambitious driver, and their eccentric boss, the legendary billionaire Howard Hughes.
It was reported that production had been completed on June 8, 2014, after 74 filming days. Additional filming took place in late February 2015.
You make an old guy courageous, Marla...
Marla Mabrey: Is that a compliment, Howard ?
Howard Hughes: You're not calling me Mr. Hughes... Makes me feel so much younger.
The movie begins with a "1964" dateline and later has a "five years before" card on screen. At one point, a radio broadcast informs listeners that the Brooklyn Dodgers will soon be moving to Los Angeles. By 1959 they had already done so and in fact played the Chicago White Sox in the World Series that year.
The end credits contain the standard disclaimer that all characters are fictional. But Howard Hughes, as well as his aides Noah Dietrich (played by Martin Sheen) and Robert Maheu (Alec Baldwin) are real people.
