Very nice special effects. The storms were nicely done. CGI was convincing.
Why I think this works better than other "Natural Disaster" films is because they did not revolve the plot around the storms...the storms were just the vehicle of destruction used. It's more like a Live Free Or Die Hard conspiracy, but instead of hi-jacking the IoT, they are hi-jacking weather control satellites.
Good CGI, a fun movie.
7/10
*Had Bruce Willis been in it... would have made it an 8.5
The trailer appears to tell people that "Geostorm" is a natural disaster thriller. The explosions in Hong Kong are breathtaking, and the tsunami in Dubai is very convincing that it looks real. Just the extreme weather scenes are quite impressive already, but what the trailer doesn't tell you is that there is a major conspiracy subplot in the film as well. The conspiracy keeps you guessing what is happening, and maintains a heightened level of suspense and thrill. The interaction of the two brothers is very good as well, as they go from being estranged to reaching resolution. It is very touching. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, and it's an unexpectedly calendaring natural disaster and political thriller.

- TriviaJerry Bruckheimer was brought in to produce at a very late stage. The studio rejected the original cut due to poor reactions from test audiences. Extensive re-shoots, featuring new material written by Laeta Kalogridis, were helmed by Danny Cannon over two weeks, for a reported $15M.
- GoofsThe shuttle banks into a landing on the flight deck like a fighter, ignoring how objectors actually maneuver in space. On landing in the massive landing deck which is open to space, the doors close and in seconds there is full air pressure and its warm enough to walk out without protective clothing. As the characters greet each other in the background another shuttle departs (using its main engines!) without any apparent effect on the air pressure.

Jake Lawson: [on Dutch Boy] This was my life's work, Max. You know, they said it was impossible, but we pulled it off. And it worked perfectly, without fail, day after day, year after year, so what do people do with it? Turn it into a gun.
- Crazy creditsDuring the first part of the end credits, blueprint schematics of the Dutch Boy space station and satellites are shown.
