Pete Davidson is playing Pete Davidson... sort of. He's living back home on Staten Island with his mother Amy (Edie Falco). Joe Larocca (Joe Pesci) is his grandpa. He's tired of being the butt of everybody's jokes. In the pilot, he comes on his mother and helps his Uncle Roy (Brad Garrett) come inside a hooker.
It's not the first time that a celebrity is using his real life as fodder for comedic material. Pete Davidson is well suited for this with all his unstable tabloid stories. He dabbles a little with the surreal. It has good potential. It could be a standout if he gets even better. It could be his Atlanta. Of course, he quits after one season. He claims that this part of his life is done. I hope that doing some of his best work isn't the "life" that is over.

Honest to God I think the people leaving low ratings are trolls. The show is absolutely hilarious, heartfelt and the acting is phenomenal. Joe Pesci as Poppy is la crème de la crème and he is funny as hell. All the actors (some well known and others less known) they were wonderful in their roles and played their parts hilariously and beautifully. The guest roles too were so well blended and we get a comical but deep insight into the life of PD. I'm not a dedicated fan of his stand up and so this is not coming from a place of bias. I am objectively saying that this show is very, very well made and I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to season 2. Well done guys, you did great.
I need to start off by saying I'm a fan of Pete Davidson, not a huge fan but still a fan, so I'm definitely the target audience for this show. FYI, you don't have to be a Pete Davidson fan to enjoy the show. I ended up liking Bupkis even more than I thought I would. I was entertained throughout every episode. The worst episode is the first so don't give up after one episode, it gets better. Bupkis is a fictionalized story on Pete Davidson's life. It's kind of how like Curb Your Enthusiasm is loosely based on Larry David. There are so many big names stars in this including Joe Pesci as his grandfather and Edie Falco as his mother. It also has so many great guest appearances by Charlie Day, Sebastian Stan, Jon Stewart, Bobby Cannavale, Ray Ramano, Steve Buscemi, Paul Walter Hauser, Simon Rex, Method Man, Jadakiss, Machine Gun Kelly, Brad Garrett, Al Gore, John Mulaney, and many more. Give this a chance because I think it'll hook you and you're going to want to binge it as fast as you can.
Obviously if you're a Pete Davidson fan you're going to like this and if you're not you probably won't. That's why I don't understand the people who are leaving negative reviews. What were you expecting? Having enjoyed The King of Staten Island, I was expecting this to be a longer version of that movie just made for a tv series and while they both have a lot in common, this is actually better than the movie. I think it's mostly due to the great Joe Pesci who plays Pete's dying grandfather. The dynamic Pete has with his grandfather is what makes this better than the movie. Every episode has plenty of laughs but also some good drama too. Even though you'll enjoy this a lot more being a Pete Davidson fan I don't think you have to be his fan to like it. I'm already looking forward to next season.
This show is excellent I should've watched sooner, it's definitely worth it! Joe Pesci is perfect as a grandfather in this crazy how he's managing. The comedy is delightful, plenty of entertainment, well written, and Pete doesn't get enough appreciation! I used to hear Bupkis randomly when I was younger great that it become a series. I previously watched Squealer on Peacock that was atrocious a great relief to watch better entertainment, I'll definitely enjoy the rest of the madness of the other episodes. Smoother than expected and outrageously silly in the best way possible. I didn't realize Lorne Micheal's was a producer he known for Saturday Night Live and other great comedies.
