  • Now 9 roasts deep into the 11 that Amazon has available for streaming, I can see a unique character developing for each one. It might seem obvious at first glance, but I promise that it isn't. Yes, they recycle a lot of jokes even though they may tailor them to specific people, but I'm not really referring to those. What I mean is how the production is tailored to each roast honoree. Although it is mostly confined to the introduction, you can see how the animations are unique in their own way, and the choice of song when the man/woman of honor enters. Maybe I'm putting a little too much thought into a comedy special, but at least Comedy Central did. The earlier ones were kind of anonymous in that kind of detail (or maybe I just didn't notice it until now), but it is clear that CC is getting into kind of a groove. As for the jokes, I continue to hear a lot of recycled material, particularly before each roaster gets to the main person. They're still funny, but the enthusiasm of my laughter does decline with each repetition. Thankfully, Charlie Sheen has had significant enough of a career and personal failings with which to generate comedic material. My personal favorites were Anthony Jeselnik, Amy Schumer, and Patrice O'Neal. Mike Tyson was tolerable at best, and way too many barbs were directed at him, distracting from the main event. It also didn't help that he couldn't keep his mouth shut when it wasn't his turn. Anyway, I digress. I found the level of humor acceptable, and Charlie Sheen himself equally adept at dishing it as taking it. Overall, in the upper echelon of these Comedy Central roasts.

The best accompaniment to this one: a nice, big Sheenis. ...you'll see.

This could better have been called the roast of Mike Tyson. He takes far more character swipes than Charlie, and even gets to dish out a few, LIT-TER-RALLY. Oh, yes, there will be blood.

Tyson is never quite throughout the roast, answering every shot at his face-tattoo, his marriages, etc. with gleeful and good-natured trash-talk. Seriously, it was like his f*ckin' birthday. I just wish he'd been at the Pamela Anderson roast to shut-up f*ckin' Courtney Love...

Comedy Central could save a ton on a Mike Tyson Roast by simply rerunning this one. Just edit out Sheen looking wrinkled turkey neck.

Tyson also gives the best speech of the night (despite having the worst speech on the dais). Though just as insulting as the other comics, Tyson uses (or was given) elegance to tear down the warlock from Mars.

William Shatner, Patrice O'Neal, and Seth MacFarlane are also f*ckin' hilarious! Definitely check this out.
  • I've seen people embarrassed about that joke Amy Schumer did on Ryan Dunn/Steve-O, or about Sheen's kids...but you know what? Go see your daily standard comedy instead and keep away from the CC Roast! Comedy has to be a punch in your face. And that's exactly what they do here. Not all the time, but sometimes there are those moments where you think "Wow! did he really say that!?". Nobody's spared. Nobody. If you are in the cast, you have to be ready to be targeted anytime. And everyone in that cast knows what he's doing there. They know there are no limits in this show. That's why it works so well and that's what makes it special and different to anything else. In the end it's just words and you can clearly see that they're all like a big family having fun with each other. They don't take it too seriously, and they can laugh about themselves, which is good to see.

Good show, and I love MacFarlane's humor and appearance as a host. What a talent he is, more of him please — and more of the Roast ;-)
  • Alongside with the Roast of Donald Trump, Bob Saget, Pamela Anderson, Hugh Hefner and William Shatner (the others are also great, but not extraordinary, my opinion) - this is a gem of a roast, let's say a diamond; it's what I dreamed of in months of anticipation. The roasters on the dais killed it, Charlie Sheen was a very good sport and the crowd was awesome, the set was very nice... all in one, A PERFECT ROAST! And this comes from a person that saw all the Comedy Central roasts, 4-5 times each :) Watch it, it's a must; treat yourself with one+ hour of laugh out loud, guaranteed! And to sum up the 10 lines of mandatory text, I hope Charlie will do a great job in Anger Management; can't wait to see it in 2012 and later on. All the best!
  • Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen (2011)

    *** 1/2 (out of 4)

The Comedy Central Roasts have gathered some familiar names over the years but it's doubtful any of them bigger than Charlie Sheen. I guess what made this special so "special" is the fact that the actor was in the biggest year of his career because it was all going down the toilet. Being fired from his hit TV show, a disastrous comedy tour, hookers, drugs, his father crying out for him and this was just the beginning but with all of this stuff it certainly left the roasters a lot to work with. Once again Seth MacFarlane returns as the host and we also get roasters including William Shatner, Kate Walsh, Mike Tyson, Jon Lovitz, Steve-O, Amy Schumer, Patrice O'Neal and of course Jeffrey Ross. The comedy level is pretty high from start to finish with a wide range of jokes, which of course aren't going to be for those easily offended. There are many jokes aimed at Sheen's profession of abusing hookers and of course the drug jokes are non-stop. As you'd expect, the level of laughs from the roasters is quite mixed but for the most part they're all pretty good. The real stand out should come as no shock but it's Jeffrey Ross, the one vet from previous roasts. The man will certainly stop at nothing to get a laugh and this includes jokes about Sheen's children and a few very sharp ones aimed at Tyson. Speaking of Tyson, he is certainly the target for a lot of jokes with some very funny ones about his voice, prison stint and of course a couple about Don King. The former boxer also does a pretty good job in his segment and manages to be quite funny poking fun of those on the stage. The real key to the event is seeing how the real target takes everything and it's clear that Sheen is having a good time. He's certainly laughing at the majority of the material and I was really shocked to see how well he handled some of the jokes and especially the ones aimed at his children. Even Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez get a few nice jokes told about them. At the end Sheen gets to stand up and deliver back at those on stage and he too manages to come across very funny. Fans of the series will certainly have to rank this as one of the best and I'm sure those fans of Sheen will enjoy looking back with laughs at his troubled past.

Comedy Central consistently delivers great quality shows with their Roasts. Everybody was super funny and who knew that Mike Tyson could deliver good humor as well. One special thanks goes to Jon Lovitz for the joke of 2011 that has gotten me consistent laughs with everyone I meet and "shoehorn" Charlie Sheen into the conversation. It goes: "And now a joke . . . how much cocaine can Charlie Sheen do? . . . Enough to kill 2 ½ men." If Mr. Lovitz knew how many laughs I get repeating his joke, he'd charge me royalties. William Shatner made a few cranks to the Sheen rotisserie without hamming it up too much. Jeff Ross who's such a regular to these events that his peers love to note that this is the only job he can get. He also adds the right amount of seasoning to the roistering Warlock. The late Patrice O'Neal is an excellent roaster as well and has a funny exchange with William Shatner that doesn't go off-topic too much. The only person that either didn't understand who the Roast was about, or was incredibly ill prepared, was Jackass's Steve O. Still anybody willing to run into a reluctant Mike Tyson's fist has my vote for a future invite. And speaking of future invites, thank you very Comedy Central for not having that, annoying, face-licking, attention grabbing, Andy Dick (head) whose only goal in life now seems to be in seeing how many people he can make cringe till their necks snap with his inappropriate distractions. And of course I can mention all the other roasters and the excellent job they did, but I'm getting a little lazy at this point. Seth McFarlane is the perfect Roast Master in my opinion who perfectly keeps the flow going between Comedy Chefs taking their turn at the Rack-Of-Sheen. He has a mastery of being incredibly funny without stealing attention.

Lastly, no matter what a person does, I have a certain amount of respect for some one that tells a boss to (FOAD) and still get another job. Way to go Charlie.
  • I love this one, it's special, because it's the one and only roast Patrice O'Neal attended before he died.

If you don't know, he's one of the greatest comedians who ever lived, and the fact that he said 'yes' to this roast, while saying 'no' to previous ones should tell you this -- Charlie is an inspiration.

I hope he's doing well these days, because he was a leged back then -- he made a ton of money, lived like crazy, then 'told his boss to f-ck off' like a champ.

Aside from Amy Shumer - the worst Roast atendee ever, and Jeff Ross who's a major beta, always sucking up to her, this is probably the best roast ever.

With the best cast, best roastee, and just... Best everything.

    Warning: Spoilers
How was this meant to be funny?? I have a bit of a sick sense of humour at times, I can take a joke. But the jokes on this show were either pathetic or just plain nasty. Is it funny to take the mickey out of his kids? No. To joke about someone's friend who recently died? Sorry but to think that's funny you have something missing in your head.

The only part I smiled at was Charlie's get back at the end, he really outshone any of the comedians at their own trade...and to be honest this wasn't a roast for Charlie Sheen, the 'comedians' spent more time roasting each other than Charlie Sheen, kinda takes the point of the show away...
  • Overall - just 'good enough'. Sheen provides a wealth of material and they skewer him well.

First of all - the dais is pretty disappointing. For a guaranteed ratings winner (it was CC's highest rated roast) a lot of the old, big names like Lisa Lampanelli, Gilbert Gottfried, Nick DiPaolo and others weren't there. And Jon Lovitz and Steve O are not worthy replacements. Not to mention no people from Charlie's world. I guess that says something about the guy right? Or maybe the producers are just getting lazy.

Speaking of which, they have to stop getting Seth MacFarlane to MC these things. He's gotten boring and doesn't bring anything special to the shows.

WINNING!!!: Jeff Ross owned the night - he's been roasting Charlie on their comedy tour and brings out the A material. Amy Schumer is also nice and nasty.

MIDDLE GROUND: Anthony Jeselnik has some good one-liners but his delivery is kinda annoying. I believe Patrice O'Neal when he said he had to throw out some of his prepared material. He seemed to be winging it a bit, but I like how he tried to describe the roasters (Anthony as a Medieval Restaurant waiter lol). William Shatner did well. Jon Lovitz...

TIGER DUD: Kate Walsh was pretty bland, Steve O was terrible, Mike Tyson was all over the place. Get rid of MacFarlane.

Overally it was funny and enjoyable - you have to be pretty lame to screw up a Charlie Sheen roast, but a bit more effort next time Comedy Central.
  • I could have rated more to get Amy out of there, it's just that she's not worthy of a "star".
