Set in the fictional northern supermarket Valco, Trollied looks at the everyday working life of its employees. At the helm is Gavin, he does his best to run a happy and tight ship, but as with any business, not everything runs as smoothly as it should.

I've been an avid fan of Trollied since it began, Series 1 and 2 were fantastically funny, the dynamic between Jason Watkins and Jane Horrocks was hilarious, I also loved Stephanie Beacham's Lorraine. I liked Colin and Lisa's unlikely relationship too. Series 3 was a disaster, as others have rightly said the Richard France character made me switch off. Series 4 was OK, but Series 5 seems very much back on track, getting Sarah Parish on board has made all the difference.

I love Linda and Sue on the service desk, I am so glad they've stayed on the show, they're great. Margaret is wonderfully funny, I'm a big fan of Rita May. I must admit I am missing Kieran, Leighton and Julie.

It's such a difficult show to review because it has contained highs and lows, I'll score it 8/10, because when it's been good it's been great, we'll forgive them for Series 3.
  • I thought that after series 3 Trollied would end - but it returned better than ever. I loved series 4. I laughed with, not at, the lovable characters. I looked back at the episodes later and could not help but smile. The new deputy manager, Daniel (fresh out of Dr Who) is superb and Stephen Tompkinson is excellent as the new pharmacist. Neville is as likable as ever and Gavin is - as always - a star! Trollied Season 4 is he best ever - remember, always, VALCO SERVES YOU RIGHT!
  • The first two seasons were funny but after Leighton left the show it was very poor.
  • This feels so familiar, because so many times we have seen the people who sit at the counter, stock the goods or chop the meat in the "no man's land" that supermarkets are, yet we have seen them with the corner of out eye. In Trollied they are filmed, they have names and lives, they actually don't care too much about the hatred management, which is repulsive to the managers themselves after all...spending day after day in the "merchandise forest", the guys get around the stiff rules and go on being the guys.

It's a slow paced comedy, under the neon lights everybody knows that the surveillance cameras or the bosses eyes cannot work everywhere and all the time. Before the digital supervision, a friend once told me stories about working in a supermarket and stuffing his face in the back alleys together with the other shelf boys. Now it's a bit harder, but still...everyone is bored, everyone compensated...talks, is naughty, reads from the shelves, eats from the shelves. the scenes are like bits and bobs, sometimes cameos. As I said, it looks so familiar, but not from other shows, but from life.

The show stand out because it does not wretch of forced script, concept or performances. They just struck gold by keeping it real, observing and adapting for screen.

    Good one.

I started watching the show a few weeks back and am at the end of season 3. I found this show really difficult to rate for the below reason:

    Season 1 - 8 Season 2 -7.5 Season 3 - 4

What happened in season 3? The introduction of Richard France was, in my opinion, the worst thing to happen to the show. His character is just awful, over the top, annoying and unfunny.

The charm of the show in the earlier seasons was that it felt like a mocumentary of a super market but by season 3 the feeling of the show has changed. Shame.

I can't believe this show has such a low score.

Bristling with talent such as Mark Addy (Game of Thrones - The Full Monty) and Jane Horrocks (Little Voice - Absolutely Fabulous) and the new addition for series 2 of Stephanie Beacham.

The first series was hilarious with many laugh out loud moments. My favourite was where Leighton was following the repair guy all day which culminated in the toilets. You could actually feel the guys pain in his final comment. I had to rewind it and watch it again I was crying that much with laughter.

Now, in series 2 we have the addition of the beautiful Stephanie Beacham in a role you could never have predicted. If you enjoyed granny's language in the Catherine Tate show you are going to wet yourself at Miss Beacham's character Lorraine. Hats off to her for this role but I bet she has never had so much fun playing a character. Dynasty fans will probably have a coronary when she opens her mouth.

I am not condoning bad language but when it comes from someone you are not expecting it to, it is hilarious.

Add in things like Linda & Colin's unexpected "relationship" and you have an absolute classic. (I used the word relationship in it's loosest term) Give this a couple of episodes so you get to know the characters and you will not be disappointed. Stick through till series 2 and Stephanie Beacham will have you creased up with laughter and "as sharp as a b*****d". 10 out of 10
  • I Have just watched series 1,2 & 3 in a week and i enjoyed mostly series 1 & 2 but series 3 was so so bad with the worst character i think i have ever seen in a series namely one Richard France who just made me cringe every time he was on screen. I don't blame the actor if he was told to act like someone under five years old and who made Leighton seem like Albert Einstein and don't get me started on the blokes on the fish counter especially him with the beard, talk about dumb TV. I also saw the making of doc where the producer or writer whoever he was said that Trollied was the first comedy set in a supermarket well i can name two before this as there was Trippers Day & Slingers Day. I Have high hopes for series 4 now with have DCI BANKS in it and Miriam Margoyles but will miss Julie and Katie very much.

Every episode is hilarious and well worth the watch. This is set in a supermarket called Valco. Left in the incapable hands of Julie, who struggles to win round the staff that she really wants to like her. Julie is also madly in love with her ex boss who by mistake lets her believe they might get together, only for her to always take things the wrong way. A lot of the staff who work there are so different from each other, from posh people to the most vile and lazy people you could meet. All together with exaggerating Andy on the meat stall, this works brilliantly. Leighton who is a little bit special is a firm favourite with viewers, as he just messes everything up and makes every ones job harder, but he's that nice, he just can't be sacked. A comedy i can't wait to see again. Looking forward to the third series. A different and refreshing comedy.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Season 1- 9/10 Season 2- 9.5/10 Season 3- 8.5/10 Season 4- 6.75/10 Season 5+- 5.5/10 The show is still a bit funny biput is ruined by a large number of characters 1. Brian Annoying voice and is a terrible actor 2. Heather Is she qualified or have the writers just ruined her acting 3. Shai Annoying, annoying and not funny 4. Harry Annoying and again not funny Other examples: Daniel, duncan Trench, both men on the fish counter and Lou
  • It was amazing and the first 3/4 were really enjoyable however after Leighton left and it generally got stale, it became more of a 5/10.

Sad that they lost such a great thing. Watched all of them but was left a bit disappointed towards the end
  • I started watching 'Trollied' in the Summer of last year when I caught up on the first four series within a matter of days! I was glued to each episode as I found all the characters both interesting and entertaining.

It has to be one of the only television programmes in existence where I like every single character. However, my favourite HAS to be the elderly worker there, Margaret.

The programme is wonderfully and cleverly scripted, each line hidden with jokes for all demographics of viewers.

The cast are well blended too, each of them adding something different to the mix.

My only complaint that stops me giving it full marks is there aren't enough episodes in each series!
  • Thought I would give this series a go after seeing a few Favourable reviews.

1St Series Was Watchable even if a bit childish with the Humour.

Enjoyed Margaret's deadpan humour and Mark Addy alway reliable. Jane Horrocks however for all her experience is just annoying beyond belief.

Series 2 more of the same but with Leighton and Colin being so ridiculously Stupid they are actually annoying.

Series 3 NO NO NO NO NO NO!!

This Richard addition and the leaving of mark addy and Kieran has made me switch off.simply unfunny and Ridiculously Childish Humour. I thought we Brits we're good at slapstick Comedy but I was proved wrong.

To Recap Series 1&2 were watchable then it just goes massively Downhill from the start of Series 3 onwards.
  • Emigrated to Brisbane, Australia from the UK in 1991. Love UK shows and in particular love this show. Love the location, characters and their lives. All individuals, all unique and all absolutely lovely.

Are UK supermarkets like this? I hope so ............ get me a job there and I will be back over like a shot :-)
  • I would happily work for minimum wage if it meant I got to work in Valco. I loved season 2 with Loraine. Her sense of humour is honestly hilarious. It was harder to watch when the original actors all started disappearing. I also wish The wedding episode was tide into season 7 as now I don't think il ever get the chance to watch it as its not available to watch or purchase anywhere. Maybe now its been taken off Now TV they mite add it as a purchase option to Prime or something.

If you enjoyed Trollied then you may also like superstore https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4477976/ Its like Trollied but an American version.

I borrowed the DVD on the strength of the 'rave' reviews here saying it was hilarious and very funny. Sadly, I didn't find it funny at all. I didn't like any of the characters. Julie, especially, is so annoying. I really wanted to like this as there is so little comedy around these days, but it just didn't do it for me. Comic moments, for me, have to be unexpected to make me laugh and I just found each episode predictable and lame. I didn't even bother to finish watching the whole DVD set. Life is too short to watch stuff you don't enjoy.

Very nice and easy. Although I wish they did not bring Katie (Chanel Cresswell). But she is a wonderful actress.

It seems harsh to give this series 3/10 in total. However this largely due to the fact that the first 3 seasons were great, but the next 4 seasons was just awful. What with original bit part cast characters forced to become main characters, lazy and dry jokes, predictable scenarios. This show could've been so much better but the writers clearly bit off more than they could chew.
  • By the wickedly funny standards of the Britcom genre, and despite some great acting talent among the cast (especially the near-legendary Jane Horrocks of AbFab fame), this is below-mediocre fare. It just never takes off the runway. The writers try to echo the faux-documentary tone of The Office; serve up a touch of trashy reality TV; and bring in a generous dose of working-class accents and off-color humor. The result is dull, derivative and oddly dated. I tried to like it, and I failed.
  • 1st 3 seasons rated 7.5 stars, 4th season rated 2.5 stars. The Brits have done it again. They have taken a good show and totally screwed it up, just like series two of Plebs. The new season is just a mish mash of unbelievable and unlikable characters that do nothing but irritate you, like Miriam Margolyes who plays Colins Grandma Rose. Colin is hugely unlikable and his grandma is even worse. The writers and producers of this show have mistakenly decided that the more hateful and undesirable characters they can cram into the show, the better. Forget comedy, this is just a mess of stupidity. There is nothing funny in this 1st episode, its just makes you want the final episode to come out, where Gavin and the other good characters escape to great futures while Colin and his girlfriend go to prison and Sue, Linda and Rose get fired...........there will not be a series 5.

They lost these characters, they were the glue that held this show together...........Big Mistake!

Jane Horrocks ... Julie Adeel Akhtar ... Ray Joel Fry ... Leighton Mark Addy ... Andy (already gone, too bad)

They should have lost these irritating and unbelievable characters a long time ago! Lets face it, people like this are either in prison or on welfare.

Lorraine Cheshire ... Sue Faye McKeever ... Linda Carl Rice ... Colin Beverly Rudd ... Lisa

Minor characters they kept that are somewhat entertaining but can't save the show now.

Dominic Coleman ... Neville Rita May ... Margaret

Take them or leave them, they are replaceable without really effecting the show too much.

Chanel Cresswell ... Katie Nick Blood ... Kieran Danny Kirrane ... Dave Victor McGuire ... Ian

Update: Just watched Episode 2 and with the introduction of two new characters, Samuel Anderson as Daniel, the new deputy manager and Aisling Bea as Charlie, the new checker and the owners daughter, the season is looking up. This episode was quite funny and a hint was dropped at the end that the miserable Rose may be on her way out so there may be some hope after all.
  • When you don't have much talent and you want to try and find a formula for success it seems these days you should plumb the depths and go for the cheapest, joyless, most mean spirited base laughs possible.

This is not clever. It is not in any way funny, unless you have serious issues. It is a sign of the times that this stuff even gets financed.

If you like this show then you really should seek any and all forms of therapy...because you need it.

I can't believe the same country that produced Yes Minister produced this predictable, awful dross.

The producers, writers and directors should take a "lettuce" leaf out of their own books and go back to working in a supermarket. They will be way more productive.
  • Started out really good with a cast that worked well together. A nice blend of different characters who were all pretty relatable in their own way... Cut to Season 4, where they introduce a whole handful of moronic characters and replace characters that fir well into the dynamic. They've sacrificed the chemistry of the old cast for a splattering of a few 'big names' and it has failed spectacularly... Each of the new characters just has stupidity as a trait... I got through 3 episodes of the 4th season before I just couldn't do it anymore.

Whoever chose to cast the new actors.. Rubbish job.....
