Franka Potente had to cover most of her own tattoos during filming, except one of Chinese symbols, because this would have actually been fairly usual for her character at the time.

Corcoran and company are Irish immigrants working for the Metropolitan Police. The Metropolitan Police was formed by the state in 1857 as a counter to the pre-existing municipal police, and they were rival agencies. Irish immigrants worked almost exclusively for the municipal police rather than the Metropolitan Police, so it is highly unlikely that a Metropolitan Police precinct would would have been manned mainly by Irish.
