An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages demanding $150 million into an off-shore account, or someone will die every 20 minutes.
The two main female cabin crew members, portrayed by Lupita Nyong'o and Michelle Dockery, share the same on-screen names as Jacqueline Bisset's and Karen Black's flight attendant characters from Airport (1970) and Airport 1975 (1974), Gwen and Nancy.

Up until the point where the fighter jets start escorting the plane the co-pilot Kyle Rice is seen not wearing his jacket, subsequent scenes show him wearing his jacket. It is not explained why the co-pilot thought it necessary to leave his seat to put on his jacket.
The first part of the end credits is displayed in the fashion of the arrival/departure boards using flipped panels.
