  • Anwar Says: Here is a real and apt story that breaks the 9 pm news run by channels in our country. Rigged ratings are overpowered by hatemongering and this is all about this Hindi adaptation of PRESS by BBC, directed by Vinay Walkul , Aranyak fame on Netflix.

Jaydeep Ahlawat is the most hated character as Dipankar Sanyal still intensely human , fights with his own trauma and simultaneously with Shriya Pilgaonkar , trying to find the true journalism . Sonali Bendre, still looks beautiful , out of her cancer, the thinking woman, a role she would cherish ever. Casting director chosen every character upto the mark.

Closing credits have a poetry of Faiz Ahmad Faiz , Bol ke Lab Azad Hain Tere, conveys the quintessence of the story. A sure watch guys , you would be glued. 8/10 from me.

The series is truly very sensational in all aspects

The director Vinay has directed a finest series and made a example for strong presentation on a general content.

The content is about media houses and their modus operations this content we have seen previously also but here the makers have presented in a strong and sensational way..factors like TRP scam and Pegasus are well presented..characters ruthlessness, emotions ,political drama, corporate politics shown are of highly dramatised

Jaideep is untouchable when it comes to his acting he has acted and behaved on screen in a super confident manner along with shriya who gave a latest hit guilty minds was in same trashing mood Sonali made a good come back for her old fans..faisal taaruk also played very well

The series is of 8 episodes and no where you will feel bored the pace of the series goes well with the content dialogues were catchy with good thrills and turns..the climax is well justified and is on a very realistic basis

A good sensational drama for this weekend.

Quite an interesting series that talks about two media houses (one has a blue color indicating good and the other having a red color indicating evil) and how they approach upon showcasing different stories to public over news.
  • Credit must be given to Zee 5 and BBC for this fantastic show ! The concept, story and screenplay is very very impressive and unique when you compare this show with most other Indian OTT shows. Every episode keeps you interested all the way upto climax which is beautifully written and directed ! All the lead actors Jaideep, Sonali and Shreya have performed very naturally and convincingly. Director Vinay Waikul has done great job. This one is his fourth web series after 'the test case', ' Mission over Mars' and 'Aranyak'. He has wonderful sense of drama. All other departments like editing, cinematography, music are also really good. Give it a try even if you are not big fan of this genre. You will definitely love this show !
  • Sonali's strongest comeback. The best series on OTT so far, and the best thing is that you never know what will happen next when watching the episodes. Our expectations were met by the Broken News.
  • One of the best creation in indian web series on media and connections with politicians, Big business houses etc.

Acting, screenplay, writing etc was very commendable.

No waste of talent, pure depiction of reality!!!

"Forces a viewer to choose between TRUTH or LIE"
  • Finally I saw a best hindi web series in 2022. This series saw the truth of today's news channel. It's cinematography, story, screen play is just awesome👏👏. Every episode have a twist or plot to force you to watch next episode. Now I am can't wait for knowing the remaining story of this series. So we need season 2 as soon as possible.
  • The story is about highlighting the roller coaster life of any journalist and the threats they need to mend through, on a daily routine. The plot is based on three protagonists, who are successfull journalists.. with an absolute difference in belief and practice of profession from each other, tell a tale of the engagements they face daily in Josh 24X7 and Awaaz Bharti news channels.

It is needless to highlight and praise Jaideep Ahlawat as Dipankar Sanyal, as he happens to be a performer, one of the less in proportion, who has gained a concrete trust in a very short span and he delivers. The character of Dipankar Sanyal is absolute package of love, hate and thrill. You will get confused when to raise voice for and against him, when to stand beside him and when not to. Precisely, he is a complicated character.

Sonali Bendre as Ameena Qureshi, felt a bit overdone to me, it's completely a personal judgement on the dimension and perspective of mine.. but Sonali could have done better compared to the character she plays. Nothing special and could have been performed by any, probably with much more..who knows?! We have seen a few contemporary colleague of her's, who have returned in front of the camera much apart from what they used to do in their golden times, but they are back and delivering what needs and has set a benchmark. In that context, Sonali did a bit injustice to herself, I believe.

Shriya Pilgaonkar as Radha Bhargava, was straight to the point and did justice to the role given. You won't ask for more as there was nothing more you can question for and, she is one of those, who has emerged strong in the recent times and is deserved to gain the good attention.

The story of 'The Broken News' might be average to me but the performances, have took me to heights, especially Jaideep Ahlawat.. every praise of him seems so insufficient to me. And the songs... ofcourse were masterpiece itself!

Deeply thankful to the new wave of web media platforms, who are surely making 'talents meet success' along with 'justice to viewers', in their platform and we, the viewers, had the opportunity to see a thrust of promising and agile performers in the recent times. Took us away from that expensive but boring movie auditoriums with stereotypical bogus stories with zero content on the large screen, to economic digital devices with small screens but delivers variety of genre with a variety of dimensions to chose for and fit according to preference. We can relax and enjoy at our convenience too. There are such a huge variety of content rushing towards us that we fall short to keep a valid track on which to start with and which to complete without skipping. Yes, it's a mix of good and bad but, the ratio is far heavier on stories with good content and promising performance, which is the just the opposite in bollywood silver screen! So thanks for saving us with the new tide as we were badly stuck in a quicksand.

    Bang On
One of the best webseries on Indian television. It's a must watch. Truly engaging and this is not just about news channel. It has one of the best stories and the way its enacted simply blows your mind.
  • Warning: Spoilers
It was a series I started on a whim I just wanted to know more about what goes behind the news and more aspects related to it but this aspect was a bit under dwelled imo they really put all there stocks in Dipankar I mean everything about its sub plot character writing acting all was pretty good but here the problem comes from his counterpart Radha man she was so irritating when she switched channels like it's nothing I didn't get invested in her sub plots character anything it was really frustrating cause I just can't support her despite she was doing all the good bit. And rest the show was a good watch but it's a shame that it seems that they are going to focus more on Radha for 2nd season

FAVOURITE CHARACTER :: Dipankar FAVOURITE MOMENT :: Build up to the final news clash.

Must watch to understand how MSM/IT cell works around the Globe. How they spin the stories. How Hate politics works. How few Elites rule Massess.

    Evenly paced... Thriller.

Screenplay is fabulous! Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar have done a fabulous job.
  • The Broken News review :

"Sambhala hai maine bahut apne dil ko Zubaan par tera phir bhi naam aa raha hai"

This melodious Anu Malik number from Mahesh Bhatt's Naaraaz (1994) is how college guys of that time still remember the lovely Sonali Bendre on whom it was picturised. Making a comeback on OTT, Sonali is the only reason I watched The Broken News on Zee5, a web series supposedly adapted from the BBC produced Press (2018).

Bendre plays a media chief executive who is a criss cross between Barkha Dutt and Rubika Liaquat. Her opponent is the Arnab Goswami inspired Jaideep Ahlawat for whom news is nothing but pure business, fact ho ya fiction. Shriya Pilgaonkar is Sonali's associate whom Jaideep is trying hard to poach..

Layered with recent real life events from the mall fire to me too controversy, The Broken News makes for a breezy binge watch as the pace is mighty fast, the performances are efficient and Sonali Bendre is still as lovely and elegant as she was in Naaraaz. Only be forewarned in case you login with too high expectations: the series doesn't offer any insight on media industry which we dont know or haven't seen or read before. Offo!!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
  • Badly written, usual slow paced events, sonali bendre hams. In fact jaideep ahlawat is also a big let down in this series.

Complete waste of time. It's better to enjoy your sleep rather kill your time on this stupidity.
  • The Broken News streaming on ZEE5India is an insight into the world of news. The show is as relevant as it can get in current times.

Sonali Bendre Behl makes a strong comeback. Jaideep Ahlawat & Shriya Pilgaonkar shine in their respecive roles.

The show delivers both as a newsroom drama and thriller leaving a strong impact.
  • The broken news is a drama show directed by vinay waikul. These are the positives and negatives.

Performances:-shriya pilgaonkar plays the just, righteous journalist and she has done a superb job. She is an emotionally vulnerable character who is grappling with a loss. It was so good to see sonali bendre behl on screen after so long. And to top that she has given a great performance. She goes over the top in some sequences specially in the monologue moments. Jaideep ahlawat is a gem. He got the most interesting character and he pulled it off with ease. He plays a morally corrupt journalist but a soon to be divorced husband and a lovable father. You will love his character. Faisal malik, taaruk mehta etc in the supporting cast lend great support to them.

Screenplay:-the screenplay is engaging. It especially is a drama but works as a suspense in the final or two episodes. The drama is built well and works.

There is one illogical sequence btw. A reporter leaves a channel, joins another one and again returns to the previous one in just one day. Is it that simple for newspersons? Really childish writing.

Dialogues:-absolutely brilliant dialogue writing. There are a number of dialogues which will stay with you. Really sharp and brisk. The comparison of news with virus , 'you won't break this news, this news will break you,', brilliant dialogue writing.

This show pokes on the political parties and the government as well. Criticising a government does not mean hating your nation. It just means that you are willing to question it for the betterment of your country. It also makes a commentary on the state of journalism in this country. It is literal trash. Everyone is busy in making fake stories for TRP and viewer engagement. But who cares about unbiased journalism anyway?

Some vfx scenes look amateurish on screen. The green screen used in car sequences is pretty clear.

This is a show which will hook you and make you aware of the reality as well. I rate it 9 out of 10.
  • It was better than what I expected.

Actually it came as a total surprise to me.

I liked the Acting of all actors, Story, Screenplay, etc.

I am eagerly waiting for season 2.

  • Web Series review: The Broken News (Streaming on Zee5) #sanjuzzreviews #TheBrokenNews #ZEE5 #ShriyaPilgaonkar #JaideepAhlawat #SonaliBendre

A gripping media & newsroom drama, much like a un-put-downable book, this one is a definite winner from Zee5 all the way !!

Focussing on Channel Wars, Fake News, Paid Media , Yellow Journalism & Invasion of Privacy, "The Broken News" has it all.

Two rival news channels Awaz Bharati (the moralistic guys who believe in ethical journalism) & Josh 24/7 (who will do anything for TRP's) are shown to be battling it out in a war to gain an upper hand amongst the masses. Who will win ... And at what cost, is the question!!

Shriya Pilgaonkar & Jaideep Ahlawat are pitted against each other and are amazing to say the least. Superb performances from both!! Sonali Bendre rocks in a strong role and deserves a special mention too .

The protagonists are ably supported by others in the cast like Indraneil Sengupta, Akash Khurana, Faisal Rashid amongst others.

This 8 part series (with each episode having a runtime of around 35-40 mins) has Strong content backed by brilliant performances & great direction which make it a must watch series this weekend!!

    My rating 4/5 .. adios🙂!!
  • A nice series telling you to the truth behind all the news you get to access. After watching the show its clear that news manipulates us. Good performance by all the character specially all the leads.
  • Started watching it because of Jaideep Ahlawat. After first couple of episodes realised that there is nothing in the story (trying to create suspense by weak dialogues and screenplay).

It's an example of what a poor script and even worse direction can do to a good actor.
  • THE BROKEN NEWS is a well written series with very good editing. Generally speaking the acting ranged from average to above average with 2 exceptions viz. Shriya and Jaideep who were quite good.

Based on the murky world prevailing in the TV Industry, this series had lots of twists and turns that kept the viewer interested throughout.

As expected,it ended on a note where a 2nd season has to come out, in order to carry this riveting story forward 8/10.
  • It's a must watch series. It has shown how the media reporters work so hard to bring out truth and sometimes how they break and twist the news to make it sn interesting story so that they get more TRP and sponsors. Superb acting by the actors and very strong come back for Sonali Bendre. Desperately waiting for season 2.
  • This webseries shows the true face of today's media and how it all works.

Jaideep ahlawat is a gem and potrait the character of DIPANKAR SANYAL, which is the most evil personality in this webseries.

Story has an non- predict ending.

P.s - I just loved the dressing sense of DIPANKAR SANYAL.

Love this show. Wonderful direction, writing, acting, editing and cinematography. Keeps viewer interested all the way from 1st to last episode. Excellent job zee 5.
  • Tried to reveal the Pegasus spyware and the ministers behind it. So many things made clear in this series why and how. How news channel anchors get rewarded when they try to cover up the stories which someone powerful don't want people to know. Watch it!
