| Pretty gritty stuff...VERY!
This pilot for "The Untouchables" was originally aired in two parts as part of "Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse" and it was also aired as a theatrical release. However, even released to theaters, I have a hard time imagining this program in American theaters because of its violence, but, more importantly because the pilot is VERY risqué. In one scene, you see a stripper remove her top--revealing breasts with pasties on them. While today this might be seen as no big deal, I have no idea WHO would get to see this as it certainly would not have aired on TV and I have a hard time imagining most American theaters showing it. Perhaps this one scene was meant for international release. All I know is this and scenes featuring women being slapped about make it a very, very gritty pilot. I do know that the show itself was often criticized for its much higher than usual level of violence.

Aside from the boobs and Keenan Wynn playing part of the Ness gang, this is very much like the regular television programs. It's in black & white, has the usual narration by Walter Winchell and the usual music and pacing. It's also very exciting stuff--well written, violent and makes you want to see more.
