  • It's a well made short film, I must say, with so much consideration given to acting, cinematography, editing and sound design. All of this is let down by what I feel is a very mediocre screenplay that doesn't go anywhere.

Even the climax, though it is bold and unconventional, feels like it exists only to necessitate the climax of the film the way it did, than as an actual conclusion or resolution to the story beat.

I only wish this movie was written as good as it was filmed.

Even though the film depicits sexuality and explicit lovemaking scenes, it's not a porn movie rather a beautiful way of portrayal of an ordinary human interaction with joy, life, beauty and love.

i saw this film unexpected of what it is about but i have to say damn its quite amazing specially the last 10 minutes of it.

hotel desire 2011 is a German film about a maid who works at a hotel she drops her son to the school and comes to work at hotel from here things slow down as most of the time is wasted into useless dialog between hotel staff like cooks, the boss & other workers etc anyway the real great stuff starts right after when she begins going into rooms & cleans them she sees a lot of people in one room where some photo-shoot or film making is going on she stops the screen goes black & white this whole sequence is well shot by the director a lot of slow motion is used here as well to get more detail out of characters & environment it's not overdone & it works well enough.

now comes the big moment when Antonia the maid gets into the last room she thinks its empty but a phone call rings she freezes suddenly a naked blind man comes he doesn't know she is in the room he talks to himself wears his cloths on an he was about to look for shoes he touches the feet of the maid the maid could have moved easily from the place but she wanted more of its clear the guy feels her whole body they starts kissing & it leads to hot sex on the bed,i am telling you guys this is something else its short film but great one i mean 2 strangers having instant sex without saying anything to each other is haunting but beautiful at same time this film captures that mood nothing more.

if you are looking for some soft core or a hardcore porn film the please stay away this is not porn its a character study, the sex scene is quite explicit and not for everyone.

the best thing in this film is the acting of Clemens Schick yes he is the guy who played role of a bald bad guy in Casino Royale 2006,here he plays a blind person with so much deep emotions you could feel the pain in his eyes he included so much emotional depth into his character i can't explain his ranger is limitless great actor i must say.

the lead actress Saralisa Volm is fantastic she should be more famous, this film is no masterpiece but its good for what it is.

the only negative point is the whole boring hotel staff thing and dialogs it should have been edited down more it affects the pace since it runs only near 40 minutes its totally worth checking out.

Hotel Desire 2011 is a short film not to be missed my rating is 5/10.Recommended
  • First I should say that this review is being given by one who does not speak German, however I did not need to do so as you will presently understand.

This movie was eventually marketed as a pornographic film which is a great pity.

The acting, casting and cinematography are as good as I have ever seen. The directing is also first rate considering the limitations imposed by the money available, a paltry 60,000 Euros.

In my opinion, this is a film that was meant to explore many facets of the central character and her life; excellently played by Volm.

In the course of her day there are many possible avenues created for further plot development, but they all remain latent and unexplored for lack of money.

Begging further work: the relationships with her fellow employees; her immediate boss who possibly feels paternal toward her, and another maid who makes a pass at her in their changing room. Then there is either a fashion shoot or perhaps a porno shoot in one of the rooms she is to clean and replenish. She's both titillated and amused by the happening, and they show more than a mild interest in her as well. Finally, the encounter with The Man, played by Schick. I don't want to say how it begins because it would spoil a delightful, if fanciful, seduction- and how this develops int the hottest sexual encounter I have ever seen in what ought to have been a full length movie. The movie is roughly 39 minutes long and the sexual encounter comprises roughly six minutes at the end. With only 60,000 Euros, they had to end it SOME way.

"Hotel Desire" is a 40-minute German movie from 3.5 years ago. The film's director and writer is Sergej Moya, mostly an actor (and a pretty mediocre one) himself and this is his third and so far last effort as a filmmaker. The first 20 minutes of the movie we get introduced to the main character, her private and professional life. Her son leaves for France in order to spend some time with his dad. Next she goes to the hotel where she works as a maid and we also get to know her colleagues. These include known German actors Frederick Lau, Herbert Knaup and Palina Rojinski (not an actress, not sure if she has talents in any area) plus the established, but not equally famous Trystan Pütter playing the antagonist and Jan-Gregor Kremp playing the over-the-top gay best friend, so a supposedly likable character in contrast to who he was on "23" more than a decade earlier. However, the cast is just make-believe that this is an artistic movie. It is not. The whole direction and music reeks of pretense, but in the end everything this movie is memorable for is a very graphic sex scene between the main character and a hotel guest, who is played by Clemens Schick, another good German actor with decent recognition value. Making the decision to appear in this film was not too great from him though. He is also not blind in real life, but that is okay. I thought it was more difficult to believe that he did not recognize the woman before he touched her. His sense of smell should be strengthened to a way that he must have known there is somebody just centimeters away from him. You could also guess the direction of the film heading into pretty much adult film territory when you see the protagonist showering naked already in the very first scene and they are not hiding anything. Of course, the fact that the guest is blind makes this something entirely different than porn, right? No, it does not and the whole thing is as forgettable as the lesbian kiss included earlier in this movie as some sort of appetizer for what is about to come.

The story is pretty uninteresting too. The maid makes all kinds of mistakes at her job and yet the only one who gets punished is the one who recognized these mistakes. And if this is not already enough, the main character decides to have sex with a hotel guest and smoke (which activates the fire alarm) afterward, all this after she got almost fired on several occasions. The whole smoke-rain metaphor is pretty cringeworthy. But it also makes this film a perfect example of an ambitious filmmaker who just does not have the talent to deliver what is on his mind. The direction was not even too bad, but the writing was really weak at times. The protagonist's metaphorical words about being ready for a little rain, after all it is the hottest day in seven years, were already on the cringeworthy side, plus a few more words from her you will recognize when you hear them, but the worst was probably the sentence she made about how only a blind man would be interested in her because she has a child. Oh well, that was one of the most embarrassing displays of foreshadowing I have ever come across in film. All in all, this film was certainly a failed attempt for Moya, especially in terms of writing, to a lesser extent in directing maybe too, but also in terms of acting, not from him though, but I can't say I'm surprised that Volm is not having much of a career right now. The supporting cast was better. The scene with Knaup was fairly entertaining though, maybe Moya should rather try comedy, and really kept me from giving this film an even lower rating and from saying it is truly abysmal. But the positive recommendation is still as far away as it gets. The weak child actor early on and his poorly-written dialogues were not helping either. I do not recommend the watch here and give it a dedicated thumbs-down. I cannot understand at all why this is maybe the most famous German short film from the new millennium. Has to be the cast list, especially Lau maybe. The quality it is not and the film also did not achieve awards attention according to imdb. It is very much on the overseen side.

I don't quite understand why so many others reviewed this film so highly. For me it lacked a back story and character development to explain the actions of the main characters. The basic story is about a Maid, Antonia, that works in hospitality at a hotel. It's a scorching hot day, and she is running late for work. She first has to drop her son off at the bus for a 2 week stay with his father. When she finally gets to work, she is berated by one staff member after the other. First, fighting with the doorman for parking her car illegally out front, then with her boss for being perpetually late, and finally by the hotel manager for failing to keep the hotel supplied with sanitary wipes. She is given one last chance to shape up or be fired. We then see her in the employee locker room sobbing, a female coworker asks her what is wrong. She fills her in on how bad her day is going, and her life in general. Her coworker prods a bit deeper and gets her to open up that she hasn't had sex in 7 years. She gives Antonia a pep talk and tells her she has to make time to enjoy life and take care of herself. All of a sudden, the coworker gives her a passionate kiss, and then goes to take a shower, as the hot day makes her feel sweaty and sticky. From there the story shows us Antonia making her housekeeping rounds room to room at the hotel, until she comes to the last room the VIP suite. She enters and assumes it is empty and starts to do her job. She suddenly hears a glass shatter and realizes she is not alone. There is a cell phone on the bed, and it starts to ring. She is frozen standing Infront of the window as a naked man enters the room from his shower. He answers the phone and appears to be lying to his employer, that he is in the elevator and on his way to work. We then find out he is blind, as he gets his clothes ready that are labeled in brail by color. As he reaches down to the floor for his shoes he feels around and touches Antonia's feet. He then moves his hand up to explore her body. This is where I say the film lacks congruity and needs explanations. He now knows he is not alone, but instead of screaming in fear, these two strangers kiss and then have explicit sex on his bed. The film ends after the sex act as they share a cigarette. Too many unanswered questions. How does this blind man make love with no fear to a stranger in his room? Did he somehow know it was the maid? Was putting her son on the bus important only to give a reason for her being late for work? The film was lost on me.

    Hot
As in hot day - a thing the short movie establishes right from the start ... it also gives us a preview of what it got infamy for: Nudity (and then some) - starting with a shower scene I reckon is quite genius, especially considering where it will lead us and climax into - pun very much intended.

Having said all that, I just watched this today and as other reviewers also state, it is a shame this was reduced to just the explicit sex we towards the end. I guess it was meant to get the attention for that - it is just a shame that all the drama and acting and quite frankly well told story of a single mom who is beloved mostly in the hotel she works in ... well does not get the attention it deserves.

Really good acting (and some quite recognizable faces in this too) and performances that dare. So you may know where this leads and may want to enjoy that, but I'd urge you to also watch this for the story before that ... the end almost feels like a dream ... nothing dirty about it for sure (no pun intended).
  • Am I the only one thinking, that having sex is something very special, intimate, or at least something that has not to be on a big screen for that instance?

Obviously, I am. To say it frankly: I am not a cleric or a monk nor a very holy person. If porn crosses my way cruising through the internet I sometimes say hi.

Nevertheless, in case I do pay for something, that is the case for the very most movies, I have to say: no. No to sex scenes. Because sex scenes are porn. And for porn I do not have to pay, because the internet is for porn, and it is free.

It does not matter how "good" a porn performance is, because it is just porn. And I do not want to eat popcorn watching other people having sex. Weird to me, to you too?
  • The two other reviews of this movie, as I write this, both seem to have missed the director's vision. One of them is almost a diatribe and the other an apology. Neither do this sensitive, hand crafted movie justice.

There maybe some technical problems with the editing, for example an unfortunate jerk in continuity early on when the protagonist moves from changing room to being upbraided by Management, but to me from the perspective of what the Director was trying to do and whether he did it, the movie was almost perfect. I don't understand the criticism of the music, the use of Debussy for example was, dare I say, lyrical? Each shot is thought out and framed beautifully. There is subtle complexity to the several story lines of ordinary human interaction each of them confirming in a precise way elemental humanity.

Only a shrink-wrapped hedonist would call this porn. Metaphysical in content it is really a celebration of life as beauty. The tenderness of the final denouement is sublime and it most certainly is not in the sex.

    Amazing
Amazing movie, sensual and dramatic. Amazing movie, sensual and dramatic.
  • There is something extra about mainstream films like this. Classy, well made with proper actors who are prepared to give their all, literally. There are some excellent films made in the last decade that mix mainstream qualities with highly erotic visuals. The best on the hardcore side of the industry are the Lustcinema films and Erica Lust operating out of Barcelona I think. Well made and classy, usually. Then there are films that err on the side of mainstream and Hotel Desire is one of the best. What tips it over the edge is the delicious soundtrack finale provided by Stefan Maria Schneider. It's very difficult to get hold of as a pure soundtrack so I actually listen to it from the movie with my screen turned off. The last 5 minutes of this film are an aural delight. Strings swooshing and whoosing everywhere. So yeah, view it for the images if you wish, and don't get me wrong the main scene is beautiful, but do listen to the music as well, it's stunning.

Most of the times when I got erotic mood for music.. the first theme comes to mind hyms from mouth is this film's theme. a alluring heat with a slow contraction on each and every frames, the Director must have the most best selection on music and on the cinematography.

A compromising massive level of filmography which incomparably beautiful

    Good
I hope watch it season. This short movie is atractive, maybe for be a universal history. The sound track is magnific and the actors are amazing! I am suspected for speak about it, but this is true...
  • I watched this movie with my wife as we wanted something to put us in the mood. Hotel Desire fit the bill for a couple of reasons. First, it's not a lengthy film at all at just 40 minutes. Second, it's actually a sweet story of a day in the life of a maid. The day doesn't start out as sweet, in fact it's anything but. Whatever can go wrong does for her. But the last bit of the film (I wasn't checking the time so I'll guess 15 minutes?) things turn around for her as she has a sexual encounter with the other main character. Finally, what made this the perfect "date movie" for me and my wife is that it has just the right amount of sex. The act wasn't portrayed as dirty, the female was not degraded in any way, and any shots of genitals were brief. It wasn't as graphic as porn you'll find online but it was beyond Basic Instinct. It was, as my title says, just the right amount. I wish there were more films like this. Enjoy!
