Popular gal Cara Thompson (the extremely fetching Suzanne Quast) throws the party of the year at her house. Alas, things go terribly awry when a vicious predatory shark turns up in the pool. Director/co-writer Tony Yacenda relates the amusingly inane story at a constant zippy pace and ably milks the absurdity of the one-joke goofy premise for loads of big laughs. The idiotic behavior of the moronic characters, the tin-eared crummy dialogue (choice clunky line: "Everyone in the pool -- be careful!"), Darien Shulman's cheesy synthesizer score, and the priceless shots of the shark attacking anyone dumb enough to stay in the pool all add up to one immensely funny short. The lively acting by the game cast is another major asset, with top thespic honors going to Jonathan Lipnicki as the dim-witted Brad and co-writer Dan Perrault as token voice of reason Doug, who's sound warnings to simply stay out of the pool are ignored by everybody else. As an added plus, we also get plenty of hot gals in bikinis. A total riot.

Hey yeah, come to think of it people often do behave pretty stupidly in horror movies! I really like this tiny short. For what it is, it's very funny and clever how it's a fake trailer that plays upon most-everything that's dumb about obnoxious B-grade shark and/or monster movies, like the easily avoidable situations folks find themselves in and the more corny melodramatic plot points all in one neat little spoofy package! It's a bit thin on content, but shorts of three minutes or less tend to do that.. Couldn't they have just drained that bloody pool? I wish it were a real movie, if it were half as much fun as this short it'd be ten times better than the majority of the bizarre monster shark movies that I've seen, and believe me, they're legion! I don't know, I'd watch it if someone made it and did it the right way. I've seen worse premises involving sharks that have been made to work. It was a stupidly fun and entertaining short to me, but if this kinda stuff isn't for you than just stick with Jaws, the one and only truly great shark movie there is!

"Shark Pool" is a little comedy short film from 5 years ago about a big swimming pool party that turns bloody when a shark appears in the pool. "Don't go in the pool." Apparently, it is not as easy as it sounds. This film is obviously 100% comedy and it never takes itself seriously. That is perfectly fine. I would say it is not a big challenge to make a parody work for 2.5 minutes, but honestly many have failed, so I have to give a thumbs-up to the people who wrote and directed this short film. I found it a funny watch and the actors are also doing a nice job with their seemingly serious approach. If Tony Yacenda or his co-writers make a "real" film in the future I'd be curious to check it out when I come across it, especially if it is an animal horror film. Well done guys. Thumbs up.
