    A movie star known for his spectacular action movies longs for artistic credibility. On the other side of the world, the owners/managers of a small theatre are facing financial ruin. Before you can say "Chekhov" our handsome young movie star is hell-bent on making his British debut as Konstantin...

    "Rehearsal" is a mild comedy which derives much of its humour from comparing and contrasting various acting and directing styles. It's a pleasantly watchable movie with nicely human and humane characters. It also contains a few well-aimed barbs about the modern idea of "a good night out at the theatre" (or at the movies) : nowadays, you're not supposed to appreciate the performances, you're supposed to chase an actor into an alley and then take a selfie to prove it. Sadly, the movie suffers a bit from over-predictability. Since it is a comedy, and a pretty good-natured comedy at that, the viewer knows how this is going to end : our action movie hero is going to stretch himself as an artist, the public is going to adore the play, and the theatre will survive to fight another season.

    Mind you, young Mr. Geyer (who plays the action movie hero) is well worth a second look, with or without his shirt...

    The "Titus Andronicus" joke made my day.
