Exclusive: Garret Dillahunt (Fear The Walking Dead) has been tapped for a major recurring role in Lanterns, HBO’s drama series based on the Green Lantern DC comic. He joins leads Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre and series regular Kelly MacDonald.

Famous horror actor Bruce Campbell is making his return to television horror with the new Peacock series “Hysteria!” The show marks Campbell’s first major horror television role since ending his run on “Ash vs Evil Dead” in 2018. In “Hysteria!,” Campbell plays Chief Dandridge, a police chief investigating strange disappearances in a town gripped by fears of satanic influences.

At 66 years old, Campbell is taking on a very different role than his most famous character, Ash Williams from “The Evil Dead” franchise. Instead of playing an unwitting hero facing supernatural chaos, Chief Dandridge enters as an established authority figure meant to solve the town’s problems. Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. During a recent press day, I caught up with Bruce Campbell, where we talked about his new role and his experience with satanic panic in the 1980s.

Julie Bowen and Bruce Campbell star as, respectively, a suburban mom and a seen-it-all cop in Peacock’s “Hysteria!,” which turns the very real Satanic Panic of the ’80s into a rollicking, heavy-metal flavored comedy about demons.

The two actors, who already lived through the 1980s, had very different experiences during the era. Bowen told TheWrap she grew up in a conservative family and was afraid of supposedly Satanic things like hard rock and Dungeons and Dragons. Interestingly, Campbell, who became a chainsaw-wielding horror icon in Sam Raimi’s 1981 indie “Evil Dead,” didn’t like heavy metal music either — or most of the decade, for that matter.

Bruce Campbell is mostly known for leading the “Evil Dead” franchise (and for popping up in every Sam Raimi movie since), a role that has proven to be both blessing and curse.

The actor, who now appears in Peacock series “Hysteria!,” told The New York Times that while the “Evil Dead” films and subsequent series “Ash vs. Evil Dead” propelled him to stardom, the franchise’s fans can make him feel a bit boxed in.

“I have nothing but love for the franchise. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. It got me into the business,” Campbell said, adding, “I’m more constricted by fans than the industry.”

Campbell continued, “They’re not going to watch ‘Burn Notice’ because spy shows aren’t their bag. And the guys who watch ‘Burn Notice,’ they’re not necessarily horror fans. You’re going to know me from what you’ve watched me in.

Exclusive: UCP is making changes to its current department.

Rebecca Franko has been promoted to EVP and Head of Current Series at the NBCUniversal-owned studio. Franko was previously SVP, Current Programming, having joined in 2022.

She will oversee day-to-day operations for the studio’s slate of programming and will also start supporting select projects from Universal International Studios and series streaming on Peacock.

She reports to Beatrice Springborn, President of UCP and Uis. Kenny Tsai, who joined UCP at the same time as Franko as SVP, Current Programming continues in that role.

Franko will work with UCP’s roster including Patrick Macmanus, Nick Antosca and Sue Naegle, and serving as a liaison between production and other departments.

From new seasons of fan favorites like “Heartstopper” and “Abbott Elementary” to all-new prestige dramas and satirical comedies, there’s no shortage this October of great titles to stream!

Unsurprisingly, with Halloween right around the corner, it’s a massive month for new and returning horror, thriller, and cross-genre series, including Season 2 of Prime Video’s “The Devil’s Hour,” the premiere of James Wan’s “Teacup,” and Sundance darling “It’s What’s Inside,” making its streaming debut on Netflix in the coming weeks. Plus, usual seasonal favorite “Stranger Things” may still be on hiatus, but this month, catch several 1980s-set additions, including this year’s buzzed-about “MaXXXine” and the upcoming Peacock series “Hysteria!” with Bruce Campbell.

October is the month that's all things spooky, so of course there's going to be two new shows premiering on Peacock in October 2024 that fit that bill! We'll get to that in a moment. This month, the streamer has a variety of offerings including new shows and the debut of two new docuseries'. Those are definitely always interesting! Check out the list below:

The upcoming month will see the return of some brilliant police procedural shows like The Irrational and Found, and also new original series like Teacup. Just like every month, Peacock is ready to overload you with great content. So, we’re here to tell you about the 10 new movies and TV shows coming to Peacock in October 2024.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (October 3)

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is an animated fantasy adventure comedy film directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Based on the Mario video game franchise developed by Nintendo, the 2023 film follows the story of Brooklyn plumber Mario who is transported alongside his brother Luigi into a magical world through a mysterious pipe, but Mario and Luigi become separated and now Mario must find him.

Hysteria! is coming soon to Peacock, and the streaming service has released a trailer teasing the new thriller series. All eight episodes will arrive next month.

I don't know if it's just because I'm really missing the show or there's more to it, but watching the Hysteria! on Peacock trailer is just giving me Stranger Things vibes and I'm so here for it. And though the Netflix series is already dark, this one looks to be even darker. So I think that if you're a fellow Stranger Things fan like me, you'll want to check out Hysteria! too!

The new horror thriller premieres Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 with all 8 episodes on Peacock. That's right, it's going to be a binge-watch. I personally think these episodes should have had more of a weekly release instead. But, that's what the streamer wants I guess. We shared the trailer below:

Peacock’s upcoming series Hysteria! shows a town in the grips of a Satanic Panic — emphasis on the “satanic” part.

The streamer has released a full trailer for the show, which premieres Oct. 18 and centers on three high schoolers (Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis) whose heavy-metal band decides to lean into the fear caused when the high school quarterback goes missing and a pentagram is painted on the teen’s garage. Their makeover as satanists, however, unleashes forces — both among their peers and, possibly, with something otherworldly — that soon spin out of their control.

The trailer — which greatly expands on an earlier teaser — also shows a teenage girl (Nikki Hahn) being abducted by a creepy masked intruder and a woman (Julie Bowen) being stalked by an unseen entity. Watch it below.

The streamer on Thursday released a full trailer for its upcoming pop-horror series, which stars Bowen (Modern Family) as the mother of a teenage boy who tries to use a recent missing-persons case to his advantage.
