  • This hit series from Girlfriends Films is marked (as implied by the title) by the strong dramatics between the women, raising the label's trademark of realistic Sapphic sex to often compelling heights. But in episode 6 uncredited director and company head honcho Dan O'Connell has put the action on the back-burner, simmering away at close to a generic sex level. The heat is missing.

Prinzzess is cast as the bad girl, but she acts out the role listlessly, almost as if performing under protest. She's a serial abuser of her sister Heather Starlet, and has just returned home from the looney bin, with her steady girlfriend/"wife" from in stir Amber Chase tagging along.

The laborious set-up scenes underline this situation, but fail to establish the expected jeopardy for Heather. And it doesn't help to make their mommy Brenda James, a preposterously overrated actress, a casper milquetoast character, taking everything in stride or befuddlement.

So all we get is not the expected cat-fight violence but just the usual four ridiculously lengthy vignettes of lesbian couplings, adding up to a whopping 3 hours and 15 minutes of footage. From a plot standpoint, the entire episode could have been pounded out in just 15 minutes, sex included.

Big names are along for the ride, all of them wasted: Shyla Jennings humps Heather Starlet to get the ball rolling; then the freed love-birds Amber and Prinzzess get it on, followed by Brenda humping Gracie Glam, who's staying with the family in a contrived sleep-over with Heather, utterly unconvincing prelude to having sex with Heather's mommy.

Finale is supposedly (too cheaply staged to be credible) set at the hospital where doctor in charge Sara Stone (too young for the role) humps Prinzzess, throwing any semblance of story line to the winds.

It's a shaggy dog story with violence failing to erupt and star Prinzzess not manic enough, strictly depressive.
