  • All I see are these reviews comparing the movie to others that are really cornerstone films and its annoying because you aren't gonna watch this movie because you are genuinely looking for an interesting or captivating plot. If you want to laugh and enjoy a raunchy and in my opinion pretty funny movie then give it a try. It's predictable but watchable and I am glad I gave it a watch.
  • To sum this movie up in one word: entertaining. Even though it's a mash-up of Groundhog Day and American Pie, meaning it lacks originality, and has one of the most cliché "plot twists" of all time, it's still oddly hilarious. The movie is enjoyable if you're watching it with friends, or just sitting at home alone. I really liked the actors, even if the acting wasn't great. It was good, just not great. The jokes are funny;90% of them at least, and it's my kind of humor, so the likability of this movie will vary for each person based on what your kind of humor is. If you liked American Pie, you're probably going to like this movie.
  • This "Groundhog Day" movie with a perverted twist was actually a funny movie, even though it was intended for a young adult audience. But for a college comedy then "Premature" was actually a nice take on the genre.

The story is about teenager Rob who is reliving the same day over and over. Struggling to figure out what is going on, Rob tries to change events in order to escape the repetitive day.

There is a lot of hilarious situations and moments throughout the movie, and you will find yourself laughing, I guarantee. The absurdity and extreme things that happen are what makes this movie work so well.

The acting in "Premature" was good, and lead actor John Karna carried the movie quite nicely. And it was a treat to see Alan Tudyk in the movie as well.

"Premature" was a nice surprise of a comedy and it is quite worth watching, especially if you enjoy the teenage comedy genre.
  • I have to admit that this movie at times made me chuckle. John Karna is not a stunner but he's definitely funny in a stoic way, the dialogues were spicy and the script provided some really funny situations and characters. But the story was pretty shaky, it stayed for instance totally vague what caused the continually recurring day (in spite of some reference to a curse in the end, which came rather out of the blue and didn't really make sense), as did the way it worked (orgasms did the Groundhog trick, but strangely also a kick in the groin?!), and the way it came to an end (yet another orgasm, so what was so different?!).

To be honest: a movie that is entirely based on a teenagers ejaculations seems a bit like the rock bottom of tackiness. Poignantly illustrated by seeing John Karma multiple times lying on his bed with a big wet blotch on the front of his shorts. So I'm slightly embarrassed that in spite of that I still was entertained. Humbly I plead guilty.
  • I didn't have high expectations for this movie so maybe that's why I found it to be somewhat decent and amusing. It was definitely a step back for Katie Findlay and Craig Roberts after seeing them play some outstanding roles such as Maggie Landers on The Carrie Diaries and Oliver Tate in Submarine, but it was also nice to see some new faces making their way into the movie industry, especially the lead, John Karna. The plot for the movie is very odd but that's what probably makes it work. It's something different and unheard of. All in all, it had it's good moments and its bad but it was a fun enough watch for a Saturday night.
  • This film is pretty typical of the High School comedy. Some cheap gags centered around toilet humour or sex, a cast of reasonably 1 (or if you're lucky 2) dimensional characters and a heartwarming albeit totally predictable conclusion after 90 minutes.

I'm not quite sure why several other reviewers are commenting on Katie Findlay's performance. It hit the top of the bell curve. For those not statistically inclined that means it was average, neither good nor bad but smack on the Mean. The film's lead actor, John Karna, was chosen for the ability to pull a realistic 'cum' face reliably. Considering that was his primary expression for the majority of the movie he was a good choice, his acting ability otherwise. So so. The only consistently funny performance was provided by Craig Roberts who is actually endowed with the ability to act. I've seen him in a couple of other pictures and think this kid has a long acting career ahead of him.

The film is essentially a rip off of 'Groundhog Day' which is of course a better film. For 'Premature' to really succeed it could have lowered it's own bar and fully embraced the toilet humour motif. Other films have done this and been hilarious, Premature got caught up in the emotions too much. If it had followed Groundhog's course more similarly and become an example of total plagiarism then the film would have been better although never released. The other option was to embrace the whole 'curse' idea, which was introduced toward the end of the film, and work some gags out of that. However 'Premature' opted for a watered down combination of all three leaving the viewer somewhat unsatisfied.

If you go into this not expecting much (because not much is all you'll get) then you won't be disappointed.

    4.5/10 rounded up to 5
  • Quite a nice unpretentious film; don't expect any surprising twists, no unusual ending; no heart-rending situations because of the repetitive day; just the fact of the day repeating itself is used intensely to create funny situations. I don't know if teenagers in America talk about sex so obsessively and frequently, but compared to the youth here in Belgium, it seems to me that it is exaggerated. For those who wrongly compare this film to American Pie, there is no naked breast in it.
  • Premature was reasonably well-received by its audience at its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. I didn't expect too much from it and that's pretty much what I got: not much. Premature is an average film with a few funny scenes, but nothing extraordinary or particularly interesting. There were few scenes that drew low ball humor mostly involving masturbation. This film fulfilled the cliché that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; unfortunately, Dan Beers is not Harold Ramis and the young actors lack the comic genius of Bill Murray. Premature strives to be Goundhog Day for the American Pie generation, but the script lacks the magic that made Groundhog Day a classic that is remembered and beloved.

The young actors tried to make something entertaining of thus highly derivative script and they clearly did their best with very average material. Some of them have talent and may end up being successful. There is really nothing memorable or interesting about this film. If it is distributed it will make for an average, but forgettable date movie. At the Q&A following the film, someone asked if they had been able to show it to Harold Ramis before his death. The director said that they had not, and frankly, I'm glad that Ramis last days weren't wasted on this particular second-rate imitation of one of his best films. Dan Beers should try to write something original next time.
  • This movie will definitely make you feel good. It is stuffed with comedy and most of them is very funny. They didnt go overboard with the comedy which i find is a plus point. The direction and screenplay is nothing special. The cast is good. Everyone was perfect and except for the female lead but she is too cute to be replaced. The story is the star here. The concept is amazing. A little tweak and this would have been much better Overall above average
  • Premature is a 2014 film directed by Dan Beers, with great performance by Alan Tudyk as supporting actor and with Katie Findlay, a young, charismatic Canadian actress that I've see previously in the movie The Philosophers, 2014, sharing starring roles with John Karna. The Welsh and talented Craig Roberts also appears in a supporting role. The movie is very acceptable, it is a much better movie, in my humble opinion than The Breakfast Club or Karate Kid if we want to talk about coming of age movies, It is not La vie d'Adele obviously because this a comedy, but an entertaining one. The premise of the movie, unfortunately, is an absolute copy cat of the enormous classic "Groundhog Day". A day that repeats itself mysteriously, for a virgin teenager in this case who is struggling to have his life back to normal and trying in the process to lose his virginity. Recommendable

I have to disagree with the bad reviews as a eye experience this film its ok. But jokes and stereotypes aside this films showed me a valuable lesson whit out being the intended lesson of the film and while being funny: You can live without thinking in sex all the time, and the more you want it the less you enjoy it. It also explains why not entering classes in school its good for your brain and life, and many other thing while still being average funny. The day when hes in a bad mood also teaches to "normal" kids what smart kids feel like all the time, school sucks because this we already saw it yesterday. Is not a piece of art, but you can have a good time and learn something from it.

I need to confess, that i got to this movie, because of the new Scream series. John Karna played a nerd in that serial, and i just checked his other movies, then i found this and watched the trailer. And i was like this is the same idea, as was in the Groundhog day, but i am also a young man, and i like this guy as well, lets see what they get from the original idea. And it was nearly as good as i expected. I gave 7 points, but only because i gave 8 to Groundhog day, and because of the "copying" of the idea i "only" gave 7. But it i have to admit i really enjoyed it. Maybe it could be a good date movie as well. The only thing i would also advise, to not watch it with your parents... It could get really awkward... :D
  • The authors had a brilliant idea to stage Groundhog's Day in the high school environment of American Pie. That was garnered with jokes to which the young viewers would supposedly relate to, young meaning teenagers.

After watching Premature i remembered how i found amusing old people's comments about youth disrespecting them. Well, during Premature i felt almost like those senior citizens. As if i lost touch with the world, i laughed a couple of times and found most of the movie on the other side of good taste. The humor is on the trail of Jackass and free online soft porn and makes me wonder what the youth of today actually do in their free time. Watching videos on Youtube is kind of a given, but i'd be curious to know what comes after. Or when they grow up and mature...

I mean, the teenage comedies of the old, let's take Porky's (1982) as an example or even American Pie, for that matter, were guilty pleasures and were funny after all. One of the main jokes in Premature is male masturbation which after some repetition becomes uninteresting.
  • Premature story of a guy who got a interesting funny curse he wake up and if in day he got orgasm his morning starts again with that bed where he was left so first he thought that was just a dream but when this happened again and again then he realized there is something wrong going on then in one day he just enjoyed like he enter school with a golf car and doing something that he always wanna do it and after some repeated date he got way to off this curse who is get orgasm by his loving one who is his friend that's all story is quite interesting and the curse part is good and couple of time when he got mess in that day to off that day he just doing masturbation to got orgasm and to off that day so i did feel that i can say it is funny movie he got two genre comedy and fantasy so it is comedy movie and i don't think fantasy is good for 7 Rating on IMDb
  • A decent middling effort- comedy is hard to pull off (no pun intended) but one that mixes the plot of American Pie and Groundhog Day is setting its sights way too high. Having said that Premature is still better than many of the big budgeted comedy films coming out lately. One time watch with a bunch of friends and a crate of beer. (A middling effort but can be seen once)
  • The central idea has been recycled a lot times before this flick, starting from comedy classic "Groundhog Day". Still, I can understand a teenage B-movie being unoriginal, but what this movie's screenwriters don't seem to comprehend is that it's extremely hard to create something funny with the time loop idea, as one must have wit to turn the whole notion of comedy on its head, by making repetition funny, instead of surprise.

This unoriginality would be mostly forgivable, though, if the jokes were funny. But since the entire movie is based on sex, what was mildly entertaining at the beginning becomes stale very quickly. Ultimately, the film tries to come up with a moral lesson, which comes across as extremely disingenuous after an hour and a half of crass jokes.

With passable acting, a cliché concept and unfunny jokes, there is really nothing that can save this movie.
  • The movie is about a boy Rob who gets stuck in a time-loop and has to figure a way out to solve it and get himself out of it. It's funny, enjoyable and downright hilarious as he believes the only way to fix it is to bed the school ummm you know... girl who gets around a lot. Anyway the movie follows him as he navigates his social and professional relationships, college interviews and himself.

The cast is great with a bunch of people I've never heard of before but who do a great job thankfully. John Karna plays Rob our leading man while his best friend Gabrielle is played by the gorgeous Katie Findlay. Carlson Young and Craig Roberts also make an appearance as the male best friend and the girl who gets around. Anyway good acting by them all no complaints there.

VFX and SFX are just fine and overall the movie works pretty well so long as you are aware it's a comedy, teen movie and a lighthearted watch.

Overall a 7/10 from me, good story and good cast. Recommend giving it a watch if you like time-travel/loop style movies or just want a funny, teen comedy to watch. I also love the relationship and friendship he has with Gabrielle who has basically been his best friend since forever. I would have rated this film lower probably a 5/10 or so if I didn't get the ending I wanted but thankfully that's not an issue and we get the perfect ending!

The American pie series did one thing wrong is took the blame on-itself that it is the franchise that started the trend about teenagers looking for women, sex & fun, some people who don't about 70s or 80s film there were many films that started this the best i can name is of Sylvia Krystel Private Lessons 1981 it is the best film ever made.

But its not 90s or even Early 2000s anymore its a new decade 2014 is the year and these filmmakers are trying hard to entertain people using same story lines, jokes & comedy moments we all have seen before its just old whine in a new bottle thats it,just one thing is funny here when our hero cant control himself around a girl & discharges it then wakes up in the bed again naked.

The Plot:a school student wants loose his virginity things are not going well because something is happening & he is reliving the days until it is the right one.

Some are even comparing this to groundhog day lets be honest here this film can never be as good as older films, sure there are some scenes in this film that will make you laugh but on the whole its not worth the time or money.

As for the cast none of them impress except Craig Roberts who is superb here with his comic timing, and may i ask what happened to Katie Findlay this lady is extremely talented and can do some deep acting if the better script is available why did she level herself down to this tragedy what was she thinking when she signed this film on she saw some cash not thinking it could ruin her career she needs to be careful in the future no to make the same mistake twice.

Overall Premature 2014 is a bad comedy drama that mostly apes other films & hardly relies on originality my rating is 3/10.

I did not want to watch this film as on paper it sounded awful and juvenile. I gave it a go and am pleased I did. As others have said, this is a mash between Groundhog Day and American Pie. A teenage boy is stuck living the same day over and over, every time he ejaculates he goes back to the start of the day to relive it. It sounds an awful film and there are some moments, such as him using his headteachers sandwich mayonnaise to help him masturbate to avoid being arrested, which bring the humour level down. However there are some genuinely funny laugh out loud moments. The ending is predictable, corny and slightly suspect. Would you really leave a boy in your daughters bedroom, especially if you walked in on them and she was just wearing a bra? There are some great performances especially by the lead I have never heard of before and Craig Roberts. Overall I would give this film a go. It sounds awful and juvenile but it quickly brings you in. You may not find all the humour funny or even tasteful, but there are some really funny moments. The Groundhog Day aspect of the film give it a twist that makes it stand out and above American Pie style films.

These high-schooler movies with a major component of sex aspiration usually leave me cold but this movie was different. The first few minutes of it had me going 'hmm...' like 'okay, this doesn't look like it will be much good' but once the story started it turned out to have a clever premise with a few interesting subplots, and numerous characters who were also interesting and added to the story.

One thing I liked about this movie is that the main characters who are supposed to be in high school, actually LOOKED like high schoolers. I have seen more movies with 22 and 28 year old 'high school students' and in most cases it's just sad that those actors think they can pass for a teenager anymore. They can't. A couple of the cast members in this film do look a little long in the tooth, but really, the vast majority look like they belong in high school so that adds some authenticity to the movie.

My favorite part of the movie is at the point where Rob, the main character, realizes that he can do anything he wants to and get out of whatever mess he gets into - just by doing 'something'. Given free rein to do whatever he feels like, some pretty funny stuff ensues.

At the end of the story the loose ends are tied up and it's a satisfying conclusion. This is a movie about teenage sex - not only about, but definitely a major part of the story - but not at all at the juvenile level of something like 'Porky's'. I'm getting to be a cranky old guy but I remember high school very well and I enjoyed this movie.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Note: Most of my reviews contain spoilers but I always try that none of these spoilers can actually spoil any important surprise in the story, so you can read without worrying.

Essentially, I think it is a good movie, it has an interesting plot, has good jokes that are the nucleus of the film and a small good old moral at the end... but as I will explain a little later, it may not be for everyone.

Firstly, the main plot is brave and audacious: its about a guy in high-school whose life resets each time he reaches an orgasm and he does not understand why. His best friend helps him understand that "the Universe is a cruel bitch" and that it is trying to make him correct a mistake, so Rob (that is the name of the afflicted) has to live the same day over and over to understand what he is doing wrong and correct it.

Second, it is actually fun to see, but, careful here: this movie is not for everyone. Its humor is very sexual in nature and it can offend some people (and it did for what I read on the internet) that don't like this kind of jokes.

So in essence, I think I can recommend this movie very similarly to the way I recommend good old horror films: I ask people first if they are into them. In this case, I would advise very conservative people not to see this movie, they are going to suffer instead of enjoying. On the other side, if you like to see a movie that is slightly different to what you have seen and don't feel uncomfortable with some graphic jokes, this movie is definitive worth a watch.

Well, that would be all for the day...

    Thanks for reading.

  • let me say guys, this is the most underrated movie! the concept of the movie totally new. i don't understand why is it getting such bad reviews.

Acting wise, everybody was above average. Katie Findlay is so cute!!! Literally in love with her! Alan Tudyk was not funny at all. He was trying too hard! Adam Riegler was the one who was making me laugh! He was absolutely funny!!!

Its not "rolling on the floor" funny but yes it will give you laughs. To be noted the movie is full of adult humor! So if u folks enjoy teenage comedy n want to remember your high school days again, u should give it a try!

For all the people giving this a bad review for it's perverted humor, what were you expecting a tame comedy?

This movie is hilarious and when reviewing a comedy, the main thing that should matter is did it make you laugh? For me, I laughed at most of the movie. It was definitely better than what I had expected it to be after reading the description on Netflix.

This is not really a review, it should be taken more as a collection of impressions of the film.

Film with a very classic plot incipit that is a person who relives the same day every day and has to find a way out of it, but the funny and particular thing is how the day resets itself. For the rest, the film is a very classic comedy for teenagers with vulgar and very naughty jokes that are always quite funny. The plot is actually quite trivial and it is clear almost immediately where it is going with this, but in any case the narrative arcs of all the characters are managed very well, especially the arc of awareness of the protagonist which is very nice.
