The extended edition scenes were for the most part great. But also the extended edition did have some of my least favorite scenes. (Ex. Skimmy dipping dwarves, the Great Goblin singing). I did like the extra Rivendell sequences though. Overall it was more enjoyable, but I would added a bit more to the action too. The movie is probably the most overrated of the series.(though like the other 2 Hobbit movies it is saved by its charm.) Doesn't add a whole lot of character depth to much of the dwarves and they still remain 2 dimensional at most, with the exception of the 3 dimensional Thorin Oakenshield.
Dim witted, the director and characters do not respect the intelligence of the audience at all. It over and over inserts childish jokes at the expense of the characters and world. These movies critically damage the entire world and storyline of lord of the rings. If you do not want a serious movie that's extremely long that won't respect you and you're not planning to respect it this series is for you. Unlike the original lotr movies by far the superior cut of this movie is the shorter theatrical version. There are several scenes that are jarring and baffling. There are a few scenes done well but when this happens it's always immediately ruined by an equally bad scene.
