A family adopts a dog named Stan in the hope that two feuding step-siblings will bond over the pet. It works when the siblings soon find out that the dog can talk and write.
The owner of Kuma, the dog that played Stan, took him out of the show after the first 5 episodes because of the demanding schedule and replaced him by his youngest stunt double, Mick.
Starting with the episode, "Too Short" after the spring sound effect is heard during the "It's A Laugh Productions" logo, Stan yells (off-screen), "No, not the spring! I was afraid of that."
